Foodhub is making everyone fat
Foodhub is trying to establish itself - it is well behind Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats and so it needs to run this type of promotion to improve its exposure. And it certainly works.

However we should not be thinking this type of promotion will "ruin" a business. Indeed the FoodHub business model is fundamentally set up to benefit takeaways because - unlike the above 3 - they charge takeaways ZERO commission per order. That is a massive difference considering the volumes that can be involved.

Instead a takeaway pays a set amount for a Foodhub membership which grants them Foodhub livery and the point of service technology which delivers orders to them instantly. Plus of course exposure on the website and app.

Believe me, even selling food with £5 off £10 provides enough margins for these orders to still be profitable and they can/will even still make money when the discount looks incredibly generous because they are offeing a "double discount". If they also get that £5 back as a credit to use against their Foodhub membership it's a win-win.

I worked in the food industry for many years - you'd be amazed how little a pizza or doner kebab costs to make in terms of raw materials and a takeaway pays 25p for a can of drink that is sells for £1, and can pay less than £1 for a dessert that it dolls up with a bit of syrup and cream to sell for £5. Condiments and things like pickled onion costs pennies but are lucrative extras etc.

It's the overheads and staffing costs that make up the bulk of a takeaway's costs. The key to increased profitability is increasing order volumes - this reduces fixed costs down per order. Foodhub can certainly do that with offers like this so it's actually a very beneficial arrangement.

I want to know what's there strategy??? Must be losing so much money....if used with restaurant discounts it's silly prices...

I want to know how they can take the hit on all the reduced costs from the vouchers... You can imagine how many orders have been generated from this website alone, then factor in word of mouth to friends and family

It’s basically half price on the majority of the orders placed. It’s not even like Foodhub charge a fee for paying by card. They actually have the best delivery charges and no fee for placing orders, and they discount every single order with these codes.

That and everyone is that much larger even before Christmas has started...

Foodhub don’t take a hit, the takeaway receives the £5 off as store credit, where they can buy Foodhub branded packaging and supplies to invest back into their own business. So it’s a win win for food hub but debatable on how it impacts the takeaway since they don’t receive the full amount of cash.

if they want to grow quickly against Just Eat then they need advertising,
best way is websites like this, word of mouth, and discounts
it's not unrealistic for them to have an advertising budget of a couple of million quid and then give most of that way in money off codes

Where did you hear that

Where did you hear that

A friend of mine manages a take away and he was showing me all the £5 orders asking if I’ve got a voucher and where they come from, I asked doesn’t he get the £5 and he said no the discount gets credited for them to use in the store
Wtf
He also showed me that he can hand out 25% discount codes for customers if he ever wanted to offer a loyalty discount, the code could only be used in his store which is pretty cool

My local Indian takeaway gave me a flyer with a £5 off a £15 spend code that was unique to his store
that was a couple of weeks ago
i tried to get another but he said only 1 per customer lol

I’m sorry but I don’t believe for 1 second that a takeaway is going to accept that. These codes can be used on any takeaway via FoodHub and they are being generated every day. So the takeaways would need to agree to the potential of an unlimited discount of £5 off customers bills to be paid to them as store credit for FoodHub merchandise... not a chance

True I see where you’re coming from but my comment is based off what I’ve been told, maybe the store credit is a separate option for them but he made it pretty clear to me that it seemed like it was his only option. May have to dig a little deeper.

I could understand maybe getting £5 off their packaging etc. if they only took maybe £2 from the £5 promotion. That way the takeaway only lose £2 profit but gain £5 for packaging that they ultimately need anyway. Then FoodHub get a few quid back and the business on their items and advertisement in the process.

I can’t see them taking the whole £5 though

it was my understanding that Foodhub make their money by renting a point of sale terminal to the restaurant,
so i'd have thought the restaurants can claim back any discounts against their monthly rental fee rather than buying packaging etc

touch2success.com/poi…ale

^^ thats the system the restaurants rent,
there is nothing on there about buying packaging, but you can order menu's to be printed for your restaurant

Chinese charge way too much for delivery

All my local Chinese takeaways on Just Eat (9 of them) must have banded together to negate Just Eats high charges...
they all charge min £20 order with £3 delivery fee and no option to collect

Foodhub have just got their first Chinese on my list... £2.90 delivery, £18.90 min order.. but still no collection lol
those Chinese are smart cookies

KFC portion sizes are terrible.

Don't go anymore
Ordered through foodhub, got a just eat delivery, are they the same company?
Food Hub is brilliant, no card fees & generous discounts. Got a meal for 3 people, costs £23.50, after discounts & a voucher all i had to pay was £13. Though does any one know who has to pay for the vouchers? Is it the takeaway or does foodhub pay the takeaway the full amount of the meal? i would hate to think the local takeaway is loosing money.

It’s already been established in other deals foodhub foot the bill and the takeaway can request payment of the credit
My local "restaurants" are pretty much all of the ropey "open to 3am" variety. Pity.
