They gave me this code because a laptop was out of stock. It appears to be multi use as a friend tried it after me. You can also add sorry5 to make the discount 15%!

I actually think I'm entitled to an apology as well for the stocking issue the OP had. HOT Won't be using as I don't want a Dell 😜

MrAlbert

Cold for ethical reasons. While it might be a generic code (and you've discovered a second one) I can't help feeling it's obvious they weren't intending for it to be generally available and used and it'll eat into their profit margin.

More times than not when I have visited the site the voucher is available, but when it will actually appear I cant say. If you are after a dell refurb then apart from the outlet there are a few resellers on ebay, the last refurbs I bought were from ]http://www.itcsales.co.uk/ and ]http://www.silverstreamuk.co.uk/ Had good service from both.

kemot1984

Any idea if there will be one coming on soon?

moeman

The 'voucher' is usually an item on the website that you add to your basket which then takes £50 off. However it doesnt seem to be there at the moment

kemot1984

But what is the voucher?

Got it delivered yesterday. Swapped out that HDD for a second SSD and it works great. Looks like new and runs silent. Just need to put another 4GB of RAM in. Glad I finally pulled the trigger on one of these. My previous 8 years old laptop was like a cancer patient waiting to be put out of his misery.

supermann

With Dell I highly doubt it.

Andrisakins

It might be junk , but is it junk in the 200£ price range? Can you suggest a better junk for 200£?

Seems very poor in light of the Aspire 5 going for £400 at Curry's. And stock of those may come back.

Fuzzyluckyducky

MCS pretty much only deal in refurb stuff, and I've never had any problems with anything I've had from them. I emailed them asking for more discount and they gave me a code "xmas15" for another £15 off the laptop. Bringing it to £368.94 delivered. Code seems to work on other stuff as well

Mr.Nutts

I'd always look for Full HD / 1080p / 1920x1080 screens. A lower res is noticeably on a laptop. Anything higher than this will be more expensive and you probably won't get much benefit from it. Displays tend to be 720p, 1080p then Quad HD or 4K and the latter are usually gaming or professional machines, and cost more than your budget. p.s. I've just woken up so apologies if I've misunderstood your question and answered like an idiot.

ExpertFenceSitter

£386 huh... Now, my budget is sub £400...but I could probably be tempted slightly upward to £425 if it made sense spec wise. If this is a TN panel I'm pretty sure £385 wouldn't make sense (from what I've been reading on here since starting my search for a deal a few weeks ago!) Anyone any recommendations from any other deals? Basically I've learnt the following: That all the Intel 3/5/7 business is not enough on its own and you need to look at which generation of processor it is. But then that in general AMD with their Ryzen chips are better, whether Ryzen 3 or 5. That the Vega graphics chips with the Ryzen offerings are better also. To ignore 4gb RAM models and to go for non soldered module machines. IPS over TN....etcetera. What sort of increase in resolution/screen spec besides the TN/IPS issue should I expect/be aiming for moving up from £350-£400 and then £400-£450? Cheers

ExpertFenceSitter

Good comment and I have long waxed lyrical in the same vein as your comment from the outset. Almost every business lets themselves down considerably. It requires a pervasive and crazy good ethos, fantastic leadership and a constant focus on customer service at every juncture to come close to minimal complaints. However I will say that I work for a world leader in the logistics world and their processes are god damn shocking, leadership poor, ground staff borderline abysmal at times. So it's not all about money and gazillion pound SAP software contracts or the like!

gameman

Would a Geforce GTX 1050Ti go in to this okay?

morty

Depends what games you play can it run basic games yes so it's a gaming pc. Highend no and it doesn't claim that if your rx570 can barely run current games then something is wrong with your system and what do you class as passable frame rates 120 200? You don't lose warranty by upgrading a few parts. Correct you could build a better PC and at this price point the second hand market is best bet but a lot of people don't want to do that which is why sales of these pre build systems are still far higher then people building systems themselves.

Maggy1234

A good price for a passable PC, but this can hardly be called a gaming PC. My RX570 barely runs current games at passable frame rates and is approximately 30% faster than this 560. I don't"t see why people on here are justifying buying this to upgrade components straight away as you will loose the warranty. For not much more you could build a much more capable PC as has been pointed out.

the.dandy.p

Shouldn't have any issues.

ah yes that's another thing. Nightmare to upgrade RAM and it's been like that for a while now.

Nice thing about dell laptops is they all tend to have the same power supplies these days. Seem to have a habit of using TN panels though.

shwanko2

good deal

Ramsea

I bought a dell xps 13 9630 last year. 4 days after its warranty expired the motherboard died. I'm never touching another dell product again as their customer service is terrible. I do not know anything about MCS but if they offer any sort of extended warranty it might be worth taking.

win26

Possibly a TN display with washed out colours, limited viewing angles. You should really look for an IPS display, if screen quality is important to you. ie, photo editing.

Only £119 brand new from Ebuyer, cheaper as it should be for a refurb but not what I'd call an unbelievable deal. It's a refurb, I'd expect at least that much off.

biogenicmonkey26

Curious what you guys don't like about it - I've got the 27" and think it's great for my needs.

Not a great monitor. Picked one up used on Gumtree for £50. Decent for that price but at 100 quid, you can get much better.

I got this for my son brand new, it's an awful monitor, don't buy it. Purely regretful purchase.

MS aggressively shut down any illegal companies. The biggish companies that sell the cheap licences, for Windows & office & games etc, like the established ones in hukd deals, are validating their batches before buying & selling with MS or other software firms. Windows-wise, they're not selling RETAIL licenses, they're selling OEM. Retail enjoys support including telephone from MS which costs MS, in India. OEM does not have any support, they're extracted from decommissioned OEM machines and hence cheap, corporate ex lease batches. On bootup, MS servers nowadays quickly detect if a serial is used elsewhere on another bios and deactivates that machine fast. It's not like the old days. They tried to legally stop OEM batch reselling, but it's deemed a commodity, paid for, and viable to resell. You can see if your licence is Retail or OEM in a pop-up box, launched with command: slmgr -dli

Creatishh

Back in day you could buy a cracked distributor account for 30 quid and generate hundreds of codes, stacks selling on eBay for few quid, being a licence from ms at 80 quid I highly doubt ms sell them for this willingly still

cheekchap

No that's the common misconception. I could go into it for a page or two. MS chases illegal key sellers, and they are shut down fast. There are others though that sell licenses for much cheaper than MS in large numbers daily in UK/EU. This niche industry is a legal business models. There are codes and can ask MS too. Also a serial already in use, will be flagged and will be deactivated by MS servers within a day or two. Most scammers either sell keys googled online, tons of them, or do not bother to send any before shutting up shop fast. The legal niche industry, takes awhile to explain. There are many deals on hukd for them too. They are not hijackers, they are old legal businesses.

Creatishh

The licenses are legit but gotten illegally, Microsoft have distributors account that get hijacked and codes taken, they have no way of tracking them, won’t have a problem just saying :)

cheekchap

Asus definitely a keeper, until Samsung Pro halves in price to around £200 on eBay. (excited)
