Agreed, but different people have different priorities. For a model with a perimeter wire that can cover up to 700 sq.m. then the Ambrogio Twenty Deluxe is a better bet.
That's interesting, thanks. The downsides seem quite severe though and setting the wire up only has to be done once and then forgot about and can be done in a few hours, so on balance that's the preferable approach for me.
There is one robot mower that doesn't need any wires, the Ambrogio L60. It has sensors that identify the edge of the lawn (by bumping into something, by a drop in height or by a patio/ no grass). The downside is that you have to charge it manually and put it out yourself but it suits many people: Ambrogio L60 (comes in a 200 & 400 sq.m. versions).
