As I said before, open your eyes to the wider benefits. Nor is student accommodation in conflict with providing affordable housing Or accommodation for the homeless. What people fail to understand is that if student accommodation was not provided then the city would have no more accommodation for the homeless or home for locals. There are different parts of the housing market which are not connected in such simplistic ways. Where in fact providing additional student accommodation can free up traditional housing and help overall with increasing the supply of the housing market.

Supanotts1862

I see benefits every day from students the night before...puke ...vomit....bottles ...beer cans...urine on every doorway in the city...food wrapping and leftover food thrown all over the place...students have turned Nottingham into a sh..t hole..council need to think of locals and homeless...not just students

mattgrant

Did you know that the vacancy rate of the student accommodation across the city is practically zero? What gets built is being taken up by students and therefore helping to accommodating increases in student numbers and free up homes around the City. The university and students play a vital role in the economy of the city creating many new jobs and services m. Without student development then very little would have happened in the city centre through the recession. Much of the new stock has been either conversions of old office accommodation, regeneration of brownfield sites or conversion of some historic values buildings. I think you need to open your eyes to the benefits that students and the award winning Universities can bring to the city and the wider regionrather than jumping on the band wagon that the impact of them is all negative.

Supanotts1862

SSurprised it's not students only bearing in mind nearly every new build in the city is for students...not locals or the hundreds of homeless people sleeping in doorways of every city centre shop or business....these flats are an eyesore too...destroying a once beautiful city which now resembles glass house town

It's supposed to go from Sneinton Market to the Market Square, Trinity Square and up to the Castle. Personally, I'll just go to Son of Steak and then around the corner to The Hop Merchant.

hfullwood

If I have young kids is it best to just go to sneinton market or is there anything else around the city that would be worth seeing? Thanks

If it's anything like the one in Stoke-on-Trent last week it'll be well worth a visit

*** The best way to persuade your own council to do this is to keep dumping your large items on the local highway or on the front of your joke of a councils doorstep (watch for CCTV). We have started doing this and it seems lots of people are catching on. Soon it will be a national disgrace and councils will be forced to revert to free services. Just another case of where the Netherlands who has been offering this for years, is a light year ahead of the joke that is the UK. ***

It probably was once upon a time when it was just actual meadows. Long before the monstosity that is there now. We all wish they had just left that floodplain well alone. It's now full of the wrong type of wildlife! XD

What's with the Nottingham hating? Where are you from that's so much better mate? Here's a few things I think might be worth redeeming from your bumhole cleanse. Theatre - Dame Judy Dench and Ian McKellen started out as pups here. The Playhouse and Theatre Royal still put on interesting stuff most weeks. Literature - Byron, Lawrence and Silliote. Plus we're one of only 20-odd UNESCO cities of literature worldwide. We have loads of good writers here. Cricket - Trent Bridge. Nuff said. Art - Nottingham Contemporary is one of the best new galleries in the UK. Live music - We have about 50 decent venues, including the legendary Rock City. I could go on if I knew what you were into. Admittedly Nottingham Castle isn't quite up to the standards of Edinburgh's. And if you've visited here from the train station then I can see why you might get a bad impression as that part of town is under development.

Newbold

Do you happen to have one logical reason for all that nonsense? :/

sean.townsley

Nottingham is a beautiful city but the "castle" is a trade description nightmare. I don't get the hate for Nottingham or it's people. It is the origin for Boots and and Raleigh bikes. It is the home of the world's oldest professional football club who also gave Juventus their home colours. It's lace industry is known throughout the world and was used to wrap the royal baby up safely. It gave birth to Torvill and Dean and has the best ice arena in the country. It has world class white water canoeing facilities which are used as a base for British olympians. Robin Hood, Nottingham Forest, Stuart Broad, John Hurt, Rebecca Adlington....Nottinghamshire and Proud. Plus lets not forget Shane Meadows who lived in Nottingham and based many of his movies around his own personal experiences including This is England.
