Thank you OP - just bought one and made donation at same time. Not remotely bothered that it's May because they must have been hit so hard during lockdown and they need money all through the year. I make a donation each year online and will continue to do so.
Buy one and put a £22 donation in with it then. I have bought one and then in future won't be picking up one every year and just be making a donation (i.e. the point in the OP). Given they won't be losing money at £8 here it is still better for them.

I think you misunderstood. They are saying that they end up with loads of the paper/plastic ones lying around. They have bought this to wear each year while still making a donation.
