I understand that, but it was a bit sarcastic. It's hotukdeals not hotgbdeals. I was only commenting so other people in Ni would be aware of the extra cost

Just standard Dolby Digital? Bit poor for a 2021 model? Cracking price though, has to be a misprice

I seen that there is an offer where you can get it half price when you buy a TV, so maybe RGB have bought a lot of TV's to get this at this price. Either way a good price.

Is this 2019 model any good? samsung.com/uk/tvs/qled-tv/q950r-55-inch-qled-8k-smart-tv-qe55q950rbtxxu/

JudgeSweeny

No, it's not. All these QLED 2020 TV's are very much buyer beware. I'm just going to start copying and pasting what I wrote from another deal to every QLED 2020 deal I come across. If just ONE person manages to avoid these broken TV's then I'll be very happy... This relates to my own 85" Q80T... Terrible, myriad problems. Judder and stutterfest on OTA TV, (mostly 1080i content, although also does it on the inbuilt apps, BBC iPlayer and that is 720p), noticeable DSE banding, eARC does not pass through LPCM audio properly, resulting in some games only being in stereo on PS5 and/or XBOX Series X - so you are stuck deciding whether to have all the good video effects if your amp doesn't support VRR etc or the sound. Etc etc etc - Samsung don't care. I have a few weeks left before my set is 6 months old, so it's almost time for me to allow Argos to try their one repair chance before I give it back for a refund. I really wish it was better - how on earth Samsung think this is acceptable in their QLED 2020 range I just don't know. On the plus, movies (and other 24p content) look great, depending on how much you notice the DSE banding when the picture pans. Unacceptable on a TV near the top of their range, and one that was £3500-£4000 not too long ago. My review says avoid... avforums.com/thr…975 us.community.samsung.com/t5/…450 eu.community.samsung.com/t5/…495 Some folk say they can't see any issues, but it is pretty clear that it is a universal fault with the picture (and sound) processing. So I would say that those folks - you don't need a TV with this apparent spec, just buy the cheapest biggest one you can find.

These TVs have anti burn in functions. They have something called pixel orbiting which moves the pixels slightly on fixed signs/bands etc. They can also dimm the brightness of the logo static band Down. When put in standby they run a screen refresh after so many hours of use which prevents burn in issues thats why you should always leave them on standby. You can run the refresh manually as well. I don't think burn in is a real issues on moderns OLED TVs due to this. Most of the horror stories if you look relate to 2018 and earlier models that did not have this technology built in .

1walkersteven

Does anyone know if this TV has issues with screen burn? Thanks

Angof

We sent it back because it was too big for our room. It was beautiful though, literally like having a cinema in your front room. The image was just out of this world. To my mind at that size, it is a cinema room tv not an everyday family tv, but thats more to do with the size as anything else. We replaced it with the 55” instead which fits the room and went up to tx1500 model which has the same panel, upgraded pro processor, 120hz output, extra upward firing speakers plus a 80w amp in built. When you crank it a bit you get a fairly fairly competent soundscape. I know it would be better to have an external speaker system, but one built into the tv brings house harmony. ;)

Fair enough, packaging is unlikely to be refreshed but the seller is obligated to follow the rules. Aside from any energy consumption, how is it?

Indeed. I can relate to this. I'll probably hang fire until there's a decent amount of content available. By the time 4K become available for my TV it was fairly dated so I'm not going to rush in despite temptation. It does look like a tempting deal though so have some heat! (y) :)

iserlohn

Yes, I have a desktop RTX 3070 that has HDMI 2.1. I site around 55-60cm away from it and it's an amazing experience. Need to enable 8K Ultra HD Deep Colour on the LG to get the 8K EDIDs sent to the computer. 8K60 works well under Windows, but for some reason DSC is missing in the Nvidia driver on Linux so only 8k30 there. One thing to note is that due to the way the backlight is built on this unit, there is some parallax effect when you sit close to the panel (like you do when using it as a monitor). This means that you can see the image float above the backlight at the very edges. I worked around that by setting the underscan/border in xrandr (I use LInux mainly, but there should be a similar feature on Windows) so that there is a small black border around the screen. This makes the screen perfect for work. When load up a game now and then, I pop the screen to 4K120 and the picture is rock solid. I haven't looked into laptops with HDMI 2.1 yet. I have a Macbook Pro with TB3, and I bought a HDMI 2.1 adapter for it, but gotten it to work yet. I think I need to upgrade to Big Sur.

siliconbits

I'm thinking of doing something similar. Any issues you wan into or had second thoughts on? How far are you from the monitor? I suspect you are using a desktop. Do you know of any HDMI 2.1 laptops around? To imagine that it's worth 16 full HD monitors is mind boggling.

Saeko

Pointless buying into 8k now I made that mistake with 4k back in 2015; the TV is awesome but I missed out on HDR, better input latency on newer models, lower costs etc By the time 8k is actually worth it (i.e Games/Films offer it), there will be much better options, for cheaper. I guess it depends on certain use cases for the time being though
