I agree, it’s a strange setup; a second screen would have been nice!

Luke_Davies

😬

riccom

some of the 3060s in new Asus laptops perform under a 2060 due to their low power restrictions - plenty of reviews on Youtube appear to back this up also

Callum118

Seems like a waste of space no? Why isn't there a 2nd screen or something more useful (confused)

Chev_Groovo

I know there will be different opinions, but I think it’s a good trade-off to get the 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM

I agree but Box is currently selling it for £2k as well (https://www.box.co.uk/GX701LV-HG023T-ASUS-ROG-Zephyrus-S17-GX701LV-HG023T_3129076.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw5auGBhDEARIsAFyNm9HHzcJNsaPKqayaUCY0m2L-4Or9Jg59WioKZ-bxUp_OXVgN8KZh32gaArhiEALw_wcB)

plewis00

That does seem a bit of a stretch especially with an RTX 2060. Always seem to have issues with ASUS too, but I guess the higher-end stuff might be ok. Not sure it's worth over £1k even with the high refresh display given it's older gen CPU and mid-range last-gen GPU. Maybe I'm just spoilt with the Lenovo options recently.

joebaker123

Decent deal but its total BS to say it was ever worth 2k :)

There is only one front panel usb 3 connector. I don't think this is limitation of lanes as other boards has same on same chipset, even my Meg Ace which is way cheaper Today i went to Gigabyte Extreme. I think was 540 from laptopsdirect. Yes more expensive. but 10gb lan, colour which will match my build and i love that mobo connector concept, i wish all manufactures will do same

ch3m1c4l

1 usb 3? It has 12 plus two internal USB 3.2 headers, mixed between gen 1 and 2? That's why it's "only" 2 m.2 slots. Every x570, or b550 board is limited by pci-e lanes, more m.2 hours means less other things. Think 3 was the most on the first gen of x570, but that board had less usb and no 2.5g Lan etc. The previous version of this board supports 2x 4x pcie 4.0 drives in pci-e slot 2 though, which is nice...only one adapter that does that though, for £100 lmao. But I do agree, I think all consumer aimed boards have too few lanes. I changed from HEDT platform on release of x570, due to no use for sli nowadays, was very annoyed at extortionate pricing while having to still choose between features. The next socket from AMD should have another 4 (maybe 8,i can't remember) for the chipset devices, so should open up a few more options. I assume Intel have done/are doing the same.

CampGareth

It used to be kinda sensible to combine two cheaper GPUs back when your options for a better-than-mid-range card were spend double the money for 10% extra performance or buy two cheaper GPUs that combined were 50% better. Those days are long past now.

bobo53

It is always been waste of money but there is a lot of people with money to spend and there are 100's of older games that are still fully supported. This is the reason why does not make sense spending a lot of money on a MB of this type. A cheaper but good one can do the same job and for less than half the price. I do not personally need a Lambo but I would love to buy one if I could.

CampGareth

What's support like for sli and crossfire in games these days? I thought Nvidia and AMD were trying to kill it to encourage people up to more expensive GPU tiers?

garbage i had 2tb one die and cant be bothered to get it replaced since corsair make garbage products or get chinese crap then stick lights on them.

bobthewibble

Also a few of us have had these refurb 510s die pretty fast. I'd avoid for anything but a game drive which this is a bit small for nowadays.

Thoughtful

This small drive is nothing like as good as the larger siblings in the range with much slower read write speeds.

UPDATE: Both delivered about 67Wh at 5V @ 2A to a dummy load. So, the batteries in each of them measure better than 18,000mAh @ 3.7V in real world conditions. (highfive)

sheffield788

In my opinion, that's one of the best available. Don't forget to tick the 20% off box, so will be under £13.

wbmkk

I'm looking to get my first powerbank. You mention https://www.amazon.co.uk/TeckNet-10000mAh-Delivery-Nintendo-Smartphones-Black/dp/B000UH46YY/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 It seems Ok for £16 ? Would you agree, or is there a better one for the same sort of money. My phone takes USB C charge cable,

jewelie

Ta for the info. I had no intention of expecting to use the Zagg warranty but I thought I'd check anyway given the tests I was doing and the other stuff I was posting. This has been a good excuse to get a more up to date USB charge meter and electronic load too. I'm a bit paranoid and don't trust Lithium batteries, especially old ones, so I like to test them a bit before I put them to general use, and especially in this case as I'll be leaving one of these for my Mum.

jewelie

Update: Charge completed at approx 2A @ 5V after just under 10 hours. It ate up 80Wh of charge. Stated capacity of batteries is 74Wh (20,000mAh at 3.7V) so that's in the ball park. Awaiting a constant current discharge tester that's arriving on Wednesday then I'll hopefully be able to measure how much it actually gives out, then I'll do another post.
