Not sure if anyone else has had an email from MobilephoneDirect.co.uk (parent company of Smart Phone Company)... I got one yesterday, as below: -------------------------- Update on your recent order with Mobile Phones Direct Dear *[FNAME]*, Due to unprecedented demand for our Black Friday offers, the delivery of some orders is currently delayed. We are working very hard to clear the backlog and your order may be in a Pending Network Approval status for longer than expected. We apologise for this delay and assure you our priority is to get your order to you as quickly as possible. Once your order has passed the credit check stage it will be allocated stock at the warehouse ready for delivery, usually this happens on the same day, however the demand for these deals has been so high that the stock isn’t coming in quick enough into the warehouse and you may experience a slight delay, again please be assured our teams are working around the clock to get your order to you. Our call centre is also experiencing higher than expected call volume’s, so we ask you for your patience and recommend you keep an eye on your emails and texts for further updates. We’ve put together some FAQ’s that should help answer any questions you have. We apologise again for the delay and any inconvenience this may cause. Kind Regards Mobile Phones Direct FAQ's Why is my order still in Pending Network Approval? The demand for our Black Friday deals has been higher than expected, which has caused a backlog in the processing of orders. We are working very hard to clear the backlog, please bear with us and keep an eye on your emails and online order tracker for updates on your order and despatch. I contacted the network and they don’t have a record of my order To create an account with the network we need to complete the credit check and connect your account, if your order has still not been credit checked it will show as Awaiting Decision from the Network, don’t worry, as soon this has been done your order will be sent to the warehouse for despatch, please note in some instances the credit check will not be completed until closer to your estimated delivery date. Will I still get the Black Friday deal even though I’m still not connected? Yes, you will still be connected to the deal you bought Are the deals genuine? We are the biggest 3rd party online retailer for mobile phone contracts and have excellent relationships with the networks and manufacturers which is why we can bring you these great black Friday Deals, you won’t find these anywhere else. My line rental is showing higher than what I expected You may have cashback on your order which is claimed through Mobile Phones Direct and not the network. This is a great way for us to give you deals that the networks can’t even give. Claiming is easy; you can find full instructions under your account section I might not be available to take delivery of my delayed order Don’t worry on the day of dispatch you will receive tracking details from DPD which will allow you to rearrange it, our call centre cannot do this on your behalf and due to security reasons, the delivery address cannot be changed, so please keep an eye out for your tracking information ------------------------

I was offered iPhone Xs 64gb with 100gb data with no up front for £64 a month on Three retention deal. Didn’t take it but might help others benchmark retention deals.

Like I’d say it depends where you live and travel to frequently and what the measuring stick is, Rootmetrics suggest otherwise EE has the best UK coverageEditO2 offers nearly 99% combined 3G and 4G outdoor population coverage across the UK.By some margin, EE offers the UK’s widest and fastest 4G coverage. At the time of writing, its standard 4G network covered 99% of the UK population.

ashmac

It's a fact through they won the award this year

marcgreen11

I wouldn’t say that O2 is the best network, depends on what the measuring stick is I suppose, no good if you can’t get the coverage and i used to be with them, they all have pros and cons, depends where you live and travel to frequently. EE has the best coverage, and there are plenty of cheaper piggy back providers using EE, a phone is no good if you can’t get the signal

LadyEleanor

Considering Sim is worth £9 a month, you are getting a £1200 loan, interest included.

one of the deals is £11 a month, free fone, 10gb data. thats great! Anyone have experience with this company? easy to claim the cash back??

TheAngryMob

Further: Deal states "+ unlimited +" but doesn't say what (I guess texts). Deal does not say how many months the contract is for.

TheAngryMob

In fact, it should be neither. Site rules state all mobile deals, contract or PAYG, should have price marked as initial/upfront/handset costs, plus delivery costs, plus minimum top-up or total costs of all monthly costs, all combined ... And not include cashback deals in price as they are generally not guaranteed.

ssjinzo

I think you should highlight cashback in the title so people are aware it will cost 480 before cash back so you still paying 480. So it should read £20 not £10

N1Andy

I'm kinda assuming you didn't see the cashback on this? It works out at £3 a month for unlimited calls and 1gb data - perfect for my kids!

amour3k

Isn't this kinda expensive for a mobile phone contract with a big standard phone, or something?. And even moreso with a 24 month contract?, or ... Even when I bought my Lenovo P2 phone (just over 2 Year's back), on pay & go, then aligned it with a SIM only SIM I purchased separately after, I theoretically paid a similar 'damage' amount for my 2 lot's, over a similar period of 2 Year's, etc?. For arguably superior products all round ... Network Three gave me the same International EU roaming thing + unlimited minute's, unlimited text's + 4GB data. It worked out wayyyyyy cheaper than the contract equivalent with the same phone, and same SIM, and same Network. Unless you get a decent amount of cashbacks on these thing's now, these sorts of thing's (without a premium phone that is), aren't worth it anymore, or something?. That's how I see it anyway ... Though it's goooood for those that haven't got the time for too much flaffing about everywhere, or whatever?. :-)

How is the company? I'm sorry I've never heard about it that's why I'm asking

Thanks. I've screenshotted the email and also uploaded a copy of the despatch note. The Chinese government now knows everything about me (lol) (lol) (lol)

@Jayo just that document with the price etc. it says proof of purchase so it should be more than enough I think. @azocarbo Yep, it has expandable storage so no dual sim slot.

Put my second sim in there but no joy. So it does have expandable storage? Shame, I really wanted the double SIM

Wouldn't it make more sense to pay an extra £1.33 and get unlimited speed instead of max 10mbps ?

MrSwitch

It does, and it fits in your pocket, and it'll be smoother than a tablet.

adamderak

I just purchased a Huawei M5 8 mediapad. Great tablet but now thinking this almost has the same screen size

MrSwitch

Its wide, the widest phone I've ever used, unwieldy is the word I'd use, its also long, but has minimal bezel, which makes it seem smaller than the 7.2" suggests.
