Nonsense. This site is about getting the best for your £. My bundle options are better than the OPs - and I believe he acknowledged that with a "like". If you want "new" poorer performing goods (aka coldukdeals) there are lots out there - Amazon warehouse is a legitimate alternative to "new". Especially with the added bonus of an extra 20% off, the 30 day no quibble returns, and a 12 month warranty. So what's the benefit of "new"? More performance for less cash. An easy and fair comparison to make.

In addition, the deal is terrible for people with a clue otherwise it's fine - the company is making a modest profit on the knowledge it has regarding compatibility of pc components and is selling a service to its consumers (folk that don't or can't be bothered learning what goes together)

.... nonsense. Both the sentence and logic. "It's not comparable to compare" - this sentence just doesn't make sense. Comparable means to draw similarities for a particular purpose. Eg oranges are comparable to apples in their approximate shape. Oranges are not comparable to apples in their texture. An fx 8320 brand new is comparable to a fx 8320 used where the functionality of the CPU is not impacted within the time frame the product is to be used. Given the average lifetime of CPU these days (7+ years) buying second hand is perfectly fine (gpus are different due to bit coin mining).

Because it just isn't comparable. Higher spec and lower price it maybe, it's not comparable to compare a used item's price and a new item's price. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Used it bound to be cheaper than new.

Why's that then? As soon as you put this new bundle in a case it'll be "Used". You want the highest performing PC you can get for your available budget - given the choice I know which bundle I would prefer. These are customer returns. And higher spec than the OP. All of the "Used v good" items i have had from Amazon have effectively been open box.

Hot. Most sites agree the 3570k is way to go for gaming but with AMD wins for next gen consoles multi threaded game should become more common and that will benefit the FX. The FX is even quite good in some games.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu8Sekdb-IE Motherboard suggestion ASUS Sabertooth. And the 125W TDP value is a wee bit misleading when talking about power consumption.

Thanks for replying. I was aware it takes AM3+. There seems to be so many motherboard versions available by different manufacturers. I'll do some more research and reading of customer reviews :)

AM3+. With so many different models and features, it depends what you need/want. I'd be looking at Asus, Gigabyte or MSI. Not sure about UK RMA but i believe Gigabyte do have for their GPU's so probably includes motherboards. All brands make different quality boards though so just avoid the really cheap ones and read reviews.

What motherboards are recommended these days to go with this CPU? Not asking for serious max out overclocking but for stock operation with the headroom for a some overclocking in the future. Preferably a manufacturer with a UK RMA address with good customer service. Makes things easier and less of a hassle if a fault develops with the product. Unless there is a seriously good alternative motherboard at a great price from a reputable manufacturer. Thanks.

Nail in the coffin for me. Buying next week!! Great value I recon!! Cheers!!

Hitachi 2TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive £69.00 @ TekHeads

Hitachi 2TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive £69.00 @ TekHeads£69
This is the cheapest I could find inc delivery, I believe it contains the excellent Hitachi 5K3000 drive which I run in my servers, I was looking to just buy an internal drive but … Read more

As you all know i've taken the drive out of mine, you can just chuck another drive in and keep the enclosure. However: Inside is a very useful SATA 3 to USB 3 controller board which you can use out of the enclosure, useful for pluging hard drives in quickly to get data off, the hitachi firmware is crippled so if you plug any disk with data on it and plug it in it will ask you to format the disk in Windows and doesn't work properly in Linux either. I've come up with a solution, there is a JMicron JMS539b chip on the board and I just so happen to have firmware for it, once flashed you can plug any hard drive in and access the data and you can also use it in Linux. This firmware can be applied to the External drive anyway if you are having problems getting it to work with certain devices or OS. I believe it's because Hitachi have put something in there to do with their backup/cloud software. If anyone is interested i'll upload the firmware and windows flash utility.

Read the thread, its all there

Mine shipped last night and was here at 7am this morning :-) Just got to get it working with my dd-wrt router now. Anyone know how to find out which HDD it has, using Mac OSX?

It's a fantastic piece of kit. I've just transitioned from PC to Mac, so had a few hard drives lying around, put them in the N40L & it's worked seamlessly since. Time Machine backs up to it, works great with streaming media to PS3 (via Plex), & when the Graphics Card arrives, it'll be even better. Think the price has dropped to £210 now, so after cashback, £110 is an absolute bargain. Buy it!

N40L - I have been umming and ahing over that for a few months now! I spent a lot of time looking for alternatives to the Barracuda 7200.14 - if anyone knows any decent ones please let me know.

Ultra hot, great deal! Bought 2 for my N40L

is it 67.99 for everyone else apart from me?

so i was right :) not worth bothering with

Just spoke to a representative, and he informed me that these are "clean pulls" from existing machines not sold. Therefore, not new, and no manufacture warranty. It's wrong to advertise them as OEM, as I was under the impression that these were.

thats never the case with hard drives from previous experience it'll go off the manufacture date not the purchase date, so it could well be these are out of warranty with WD but tekheads are providing 1 year warranty, as from memory WD offered 3 years previously

No mention of how much RAM? Separate graphics processor? Looks nice though.

According to Scan it's upgradable to ICS, and to Jelly Bean within 6 weeks Actually the one they have comes shipped with ICS and is £99.97, so may be worth the extra to avoid messing about?

these drives are now available at scan again on preorder on the TODAY ONLY deals at £73.19 and free shipping if an AVForums member, did try to post the deal but Scan are apparently banned for self promotion...very good price though....still 48% above the cheapest drives I bought from them last ...warranty appears to be 2 years as well....so this is as far as I can see the best recent price....unless anyone can tell me otherwise

Pre-flood prices were for me (from SCAN):- Seagate 07/04/2011 £58.79 2Tb Seagate ST2000DL003 Barracuda LP Green SATA 6Gbps, 64Mb Cache, 5900rpm, 8ms Hitachi 07/04/2011 £56.39 2TB Hitachi Deskstar, 0F12117, CoolSpin 5K3000 SATA 6Gb/s, 5900rpm 32MB Cache so about £30 per TB is what seems to be a nostalgic price point to hope for!

Expired. Now back at £83.99. I've found a better deal. Same product cheaper price: £82.99 https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/2tb-seagate-barracuda-7200rpm-64mb-cache-st2000dm001-3-5-sata-iii-hard-drive-oem-1242054

it's £84.95 now. this one's over.

There's really no point using an SSD for storage, you'll just increase the rate of performance degradation. At the moment you'd be better off getting an SSD for your OS and most frequently used programs and a traditional HDD (the one you're already got will do fine, I'm sure) for storing "stuff".

Seagate ST3000DM001 Barracuda 7200.14 SATA 3Gb/s 3TB 64MB Cache for £119.99 @ TekHeads£119.99
Good price

I'm loving the Seagate's performance (I didn't get mine from Tekheads) - easily the best 3TB drive out there for the money (got a 3TB WD Green for 115 quid from Currys and am regretting how poor its performance is even allowing for it being a "green" 5400RPM drive). Now back at 119.99 at TekHeads with free postage, but I can't order from them because the first order has to be to your cardholder address and I get all the Seagates I've been ordering delivered to work.

Have had 3 Seagates fail over the last 4 years. Had a 500GB Seagate start clicking over the weekend. That's already been swapped under warranty, this time it's gone outside of the warranty, so time to buy another drive, probably from a different manufacturer.

I am watching these cos I want to put them in SLI so I will be ready Battlefield 3. Not bothered about MW3 since it still uses old engine so I can play it in high FPS anyway.
