Selling mobile phones to CEX

CEX seems to offer double what other people are offering for used mobile phones.

How can they afford to pay so much more than other recycling companies, and why would they? It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

I used to work for them many moons ago (great company to work for). They tend pay market rate based on supply and demand. They have a pricing team that work "live" and they are on top of the best prices to pay/ exchange and sell. There were a few times when I worked there that they paid too much for certain products, but as a customer it did entice them in. As an ex-employee I do look back at the company with great fondness and know that they do care about product and service

i wonder if it is because they buy and sell themselves, so they can afford to take less profit as there is no middle man, whereas the likes of musicmagpie probably pass on the phones to another retailer to sell and so they need to get their cut as well as the retailer. (edited)

Love cex. Sold my ps4 pro to them in 2020 for £320. Only paid £165 for it 4 years before selling it (tesco misprice)

When I was selling my iPhone 14 Pro they offered £495 but got £670 elsewhere so not the best price for me in this instance

I want to trade in galaxy A52 5G, and they are offering £112. Musicmagpie is offering £30 and trade in with Samsung and Currys is £50

I just sold a firestick 4k to them yesterday. Booked in as a grade A but then after testing they graded it as a B as the box had stickers on it, then they knocked another £2 off as supposedly the remote didn’t have Alexa. Couldn’t be bothered to argue so I just took the £24 offered which is way more than the 20% that Amazon were offering.

Idk depends on the companies. Cex only buy used stuff so I guess no tax to pay amongst other things?
