Was Googling after reading a few of these threads and saw this article.... How to use vinegar in laundry.

    It included these comments...

When Not to Use Vinegar in Laundry

With Chlorine Bleach: First and most importantly, it is critical that you don't use vinegar in laundry in conjunction with chlorine bleach or with any products that contain chlorine bleach. When vinegar and chlorine bleach are mixed, they create a chemical reaction that results in dangerous fumes that are extremely harmful and can be fatal.

With Regular Use: Secondly, vinegar should not be used as a part of your regular laundry routine, as the acid in vinegar can damage seals and hoses in your washing machine, causing leaks. "White vinegar is an acid that can break down the rubber gaskets and hoses in your washing machine, leading to costly damage," says Jennifer Kaminski, a product and brand manager for Affresh appliance care. This is especially true of front-loading washers with thick rubber gaskets around the door. While vinegar is often touted as a natural alternative to fabric softeners, regular use isn't advised because of its ill effects on a washing machine.

With Elastic: Finally, it is best to avoid the overuse of vinegar when washing gym gear or other clothing with elastic in it. While vinegar is excellent at stripping odor-causing buildup from the over- and misuse of laundry products, over time, the acidity can break down elastic, shortening the lifespan of anything with stretch.

Interesting info., but isn't Chlorine Bleach (Clorox?) an American cleaning product? Not sure I've seen it over here.

In view of the possible effects on machine rubber seals & clothes with elastic properties, I'll be a little more careful with amounts used.
But, it definitely works as a fabric conditioner, especially good with towels

Not really. Cheaper at Aldi and elsewhere and you only need to buy a pint of it (for 35p)
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
Yep, 35p for 568ml in Tesco and many other supermarkets
Works out at £6.16 for 10L, without having to buy so much.

We buy in bulk as meant to be a better alternative to fabric conditioner

I buy Tesco or Aldi's and use it in my washing machine and dishwasher too.

    - I put a good squirt in the washing cycle (same for the dishwasher) and in the final rinse instead of fabric conditioner.
And , advice some years ago was NOT to use fab. con. for towels as it hinders the moisture absorbing quality of towels.

When running the washing machine's own cleaning cycle, a cupful of vinegar also works

mix this with a generous dash of fairy liquid and a load of table salt, make your own weedkiller / driveway cleaner half the price of shop brought ones.

It works like a charm but with 30% acidity only. I've been doing it for years.

What to do with 30 litres of vinegar? Any good deals on onions?

It's 5% acidity, so it's suitable for cooking only.

No joke, my wife just ordered similar to this and accidentally added 13 to her basket, 10L each so the driver turned up with 26 bottles or 130L of vinegar. No refunds allowed, but she said it wasn’t her fault and Amazon refunded. We’ve been giving it away but still have a lifetime supply.

    Apologies for being so pedantic
    260L right? (26 bottles x 10L)
You need to eat more chips

    Any good for killing weeds?
    jarod1976's avatar
Not strong enough. You need 30% acidity.

If you don't want 10l then Home Bargains sell Elbow Grease Concentrated Vinegar which is pretty much odourless (like this gts-shop.co.uk/elb…gar). Works out more expensive per litre than this deal but its 10% as opposed to 5%

Most of the white supermarket stuff is distilled malt vinegar so not really for cleaning / laundry unless you want everything to smell like a chippy.
