Serious question: good or bad for a 7 y.o?
    zimbar87's avatar
Very bad idea IMHO. 7 y.o. should play ball games, ride his bike or build some Lego. Eyes and even more important, brain is developing at this age.

    Fantastic price

Don’t worry about 3. This is so good. For the money do it (edited)

I totally agree, I upgraded from a Q2 to Q3 and so far biggest tech upgrade regret in the last year. Yeah I know it came out closer to the end of 2023 but out of everything I've bought the Q3 was closest to why did I bother? The only thing that is worse is the crap Edifier waste of space speakers I got for my PC. They are bang on average in every way.

If you have a Q2 stick with it a bit longer and skip the Q3 is my not very popular advice. (edited)

I do recommend getting Quest Game Optimizer. It definitely makes games look much clearer

Does zuck require all users to wear leggings and crop tops?
    copperspock's avatar
Yes, and the supplied leggings are a bit cheap & itchy. Best to go with 3rd-party ones.
  6. lordfriezy's avatar
Does this still require a 'Meta' account?
    dawg's avatar
If by meta you mean Facebook, then no. You can sign up with an email just for quest. I have the Q3 and do not have Facebook account.
  7. ruairi's avatar
I think if you already have played most of the OG VR games like Alyx, Beat Saber, Walking Dead, there's nothing super exciting here. That said the price is insane and fantastic for VR entry point.
    copperspock's avatar
If a person has a beefy enough PC, I'd have to disagree. The UEVR tool means we can now play thousands of flat games (including AAAs) in VR.

Absolute newb at this… go easy…

Does it come with free games available or do you have to buy everything individually?

Can you use this for watching apps like Apple TV+ and Netflix? Dare I say Sky go?

Very much one of those things I’ve added to basket with having a single clue what it does. (edited)
    theframe8's avatar
You can get free games easily enough if you look in the right places

In terms of streaming, Netflix has a native app, not sure about the others, but it has a browser so should be able to play whatever you want through there. There's a free app called Skybox VR which is amazing and can put your own content on the device or link to a media server like Plex, and watch through there in a cinema setup (watched Dune the other week on there, it was amazing.)

I really want a solid VR kit, but will probably wait for Valve Index 2, whenever that comes out. This might offer a good test run, can I use it with my monster PC for Steam games?
    dergal's avatar
The quest kits are better value for steam games - they also work wireless & there's a steam app for this
  10. DrBones's avatar
This is a really stupid question - so forgive me:
If I don't have a playstation or xbox and I have a mobile and a fast PC (but don't play games) - is this of ANY USE to me?
I like the idea of a VR headset and I would love to do virtual-travel and things like that, but I have no idea how to even start???
    paddy29's avatar
It's can either be played by connecting it to your PC or standalone as it has a built in store. By connecting to your PC you could do Google Earth VR which is meant to be amazing.

Mine arrived today, trying to get used to it.
My vision seems to blur a long, headset keeps moving so focus always seems off?
Is it just a case of a better strap? I do wear reading glasses but the graphics are in focus when I put it on, just seems to be the periphery or stuff off centre??
    obwan2014's avatar
The best focus is on straight ahead. If you move your eyes to look left and right, it will look out of focus / start to distort. If you move you whole head, when you're looking straight ahead. it should stay in focus. Normal strap needs some good playing around with. As mentioned, some third party straps offer way better support to fix the headset in place. Really a bit of a game changer.

This is bonkers cheap but isn't the Meta Quest 3 Lite coming out pretty soon too ?
    CyDoNiA's avatar
Supposed to however its rumoured to not come with controllers and be cut down so may not be worth waiting for although this is only what I have heard.
  15. jcg's avatar
I'm absolutely clueless about VR - could this be used with a Steam Deck?
  16. valter.cardoso's avatar
I have to say it…. This is awesome for P.0.4.n
  17. ninjapirate182's avatar
I've only ever tried VR once before with the first PSVR and it gave me such a bad headache. I always wondered if it had anything to do with me wearing glasses? Any glasses wearers have one of these and can vouch for it??
    nigel_howell's avatar
it's not the glasses, it's to do with the visual motion some people handle it better that others, I could play for about 30mins before getting a headache when I first got my psvr, and now can do about 2hrs depending on the game, my girlfriend could only do about 2-3mins and that would give her a bad headache, also if you suffer from travel sickness I believe this dose not help matters, also forgot to add that we both wear glasses and she suffers from travel sickness on boats and coaches
  18. thrawn123's avatar
So for thbis you'd need a decent PC too, right? Can it play HL: Alyx?
    cookied's avatar
For half-life Alyx you need a half decent but not top of the range PC ( I first played it on an over clocked i5 3570k with 16gb ddr3 & a over clocked GTX 1070ti & it played brilliantly....
As for needing a PC, no most games are downloaded straight to the headset , so no pc needed.

Typical i bought one last week. Not as good as a quest 3 but perfect for me or the wife to use for a multiplayer session.(Demio is so good)
    obwan2014's avatar
  20. MrGrump's avatar
Wow, that's cheap. Worth it for the PC compatibility alone. Get this and Half-Life: Alyx. Heat!
  21. louiselouise's avatar
I have no interest in VR (I get really bad motion sickness, inherited from my mum probably! I carry Kwells in my purse) and my eyesight is not great.

But my partner bought this just before it hit £179.99 and it arrived on Saturday.

He loves it. He's been playing some demos and being a poker fan, has played live games with others - though he says some forget they have their mics on (you can switch your microphone off if you prefer). He had a guy 'snoring' at the poker table the other night. Some are particularly rude and have the radio on in the background !!!! or forget audio is on and talk away to whoever's in their house, or sit and hum or sing or cough like maniacs (he's finding all this a bit annoying, tbh).

For an over 18 / gambling situation (though he says cash games are different) he says all sorts of ages appear and sometimes create chaos - which makes me wonder if this will be rife with trolling or abusive situations. But there is a Report button.

Will have to ask him which sort of platform it is / what it's called.

What he really bought it for was the racing games. He was moaning a bit about it last night as he's just bought a driving rig for his Logitech G27, gear and pedals. He reckoned the visuals weren't that clear and not as hi-res as he was expecting (?).

So I'll mention the Game Optimizer suggestion mentioned by cookied (thanks) earlier on.
    EndemicAlarm's avatar
    > He reckoned the visuals weren't that clear and not as hi-res as he was expecting (?)

Using the Quest 2 itself or a PC? Without an external computer you're not going to get anything looking fancy, not even with a Quest 3 though it would be better.

If it is via PC then making the most of visuals is a fine art that depends on your specifications and settings. Driving and flying games are generally the most demanding things to run too.

The Quest 2 is a *lot* for your money but if you want to get fancy then broadly speaking you have to blow the dust off your wallet.

Also available at John Lewis for the same price and 2 year warranty, if your a JL member with their £20 off a £150 spend.
    MrFizzy's avatar
How do you get that? Is it in the JL app? I can't see it in my rewards.

    Thanks

Guys I really need some help plz.
I'm out of touch with these devices, ive got it now but I really need apps that are more exploring various things around the world (not games) for my elderly mother. I can't seem to filter the meta app, very frustrating. If someone can help me I'd really appreciate it
    clarkydpimp's avatar
"Wander" is good for exploring it's like Google earth and street view rolled into one but in VR so it's like your actually there
  24. Conkers816's avatar
If you wear glasses like me, you might want to consider some prescription lens inserts. I got mine from Adlens and they've been a game changer. I can wear the headset properly actually see what i'm doing !
    Joeyuk1983's avatar
My Quest turned up today, tried with glasses on and it puts to much pressure on my nose. Ordered the prescription lenses so hope they work as I was really enjoying vr. (edited)
  25. neilydee's avatar
Wow. I know the quest 3 is supposed to be ace but if this is your first dip into vr this is an absolute no brainer. A great piece of kit.

    backyard's avatar
If it's sold by Amazon and the controllers are pictured they are included. You can get a full refund if they aren't. This price includes controllers.

Is this better than my psvr?
    scottydogg81's avatar
    Yes!
  29. DazLFC's avatar
Ok, just bought one. £35 a month over 5 months I'd spend on rubbish anyway. Let's see how it compares to my psvr

Maybe.  I wouldn’t wait. Is already pretty cheap. Its 179 not 1079  if 20-30 matters maybe dont buy a vr headset?

i actually had both 2 and 3 and whilst 3 was a bit better i simply didnt find it too much better and 2 worked fine: ended up returning 3 and will use 2 for more casual Alyx gaming - works fine!
