Why would anyone pay so much to charge something?
    StephenW's avatar
I just bought other model 200W GaN charger from Verbatim.
200W GaN charger represents a significant advancement in charging technology, offering high efficiency and the ability to charge multiple devices simultaneously.
With most modern laptops requiring less than 100W, a single GaN charger can easily meet the needs of various gadgets during travel, eliminating the need to carry multiple chargers.
The compatibility of these chargers extends beyond laptops to smartphones, tablets, and other USB-C devices, making them a versatile power solution for tech-savvy users.
The convenience of having one charger for all your devices not only simplifies packing but also reduces the chances of leaving chargers behind in hotels or elsewhere.
As technology progresses, the integration of GaN chargers is likely to become more widespread, further enhancing their utility and user-friendliness.

    Edit:
52811339-BCs6v.jpg52811339-muF8q.jpgI have been a long-time user of Verbatim products since 2017, started with cables and now also chargers.
I've tried many other brands, like Anker, UGREEN and Baseus during this time, but only Verbatim has consistently provided the best value and quality.
The chargers listed below (photo above) are all my Verbatim products and they are still working, while other brands' all dead within 1 year:
    - 2019 QC3 PD2.0 75W.
    - 2020 QC3 PD3.0 100W.
    - 2021 QC3 PD3.0 PPS 150W.
    - 2024 GaN QC3 PD3.0 PPS 200W. (edited)

I've bought this in the past. First unit failed after 11 months, the other lasted 14.
It will get decently warm on standby with nothing plugged in too, would avoid overall.

Exact same model? What was their service like? These shouldn't be getting warm on standby!

With these really high power chargers, can they be used for any device that requires charging by USB?
Can some devices not take advantage of the higher power, and therefore I guess, quicker charging? Are there any devices that could be damaged by charging too high / fast?
    StephenW's avatar
    Yes, yes, and it depends.

Ports with QC3.0, PD3.0, or PPS can charge any device that requires USB charging.
However, to achieve maximum output, your device must also support QC3.0, PD3.0, or PPS.
QC3.0 supports up to 36W, PD3.0 supports up to 100W, and PPS supports up to 65W.

Most Android mobile phones from 2016 onwards support QC3.0.
iPhones have supported PD since the iPhone 8, but only up to a maximum of 20W, as far as I know.
Most laptops from 2018 onwards support PD3.0 and can typically be fully charged with up to 100W.
Chargers with PPS (Programmable Power Supply) include a chip that adjusts the power output based on the device's charging status. Your device also needs to support PPS to benefit from this feature.

According to Qualcomm and USB-IF, when using the correct and verified products, your device should communicate with each other and protect against overheating and overcharging.

Are verbatim stillna decent brand? I remember way back they used to make the best CD-Rs along with TDK, but are they one if these companies thats been bought out by a chinese conglomerate?
    spannerzone's avatar
Edited, Verbatim were bought out by CMC a Taiwanese company, they appear to make and support these products.... so might be ok.

"delicious. finally, some good f***ing power delivery"
    -- Gordon Ramsay, probably.

Seriously, being able to do 2x100 is pretty huge, most of everything that gets posted is like "100W on port A or port B but A+B gets you 20W on both haha". Obviously that makes it a bit chunkier but still. (edited)

It'll be a rebrand of a Chinese generic charger no doubt.

Good. Price all things considered (edited)

For this kind of money I'd go for a charger that supports QC 3.1 for 140W charging to a single device

Still not a bad price if you don't have any QC 3.1 devices (edited)
    StephenW's avatar
    Never know there is QC3.1.
    Do you mean the QC5.0?

Bought this and returned due to horrible coil whine. Did what it said, but when loaded beyond 65w sounded very broken.
