There's 3 excursions you can book, from what i remember - 1 to a coastal village (quiet, picturesque, market - ideal if weather is nice), 1 other to the museum, and another to Bilbao Centre (lots of shops - though be wary of arrival time as may be siesta time and shops shut).

The other option is to walk around the port town, which we did last time - you spend more time on land as no coach transfers, there are quite a few shops, places to eat, nice gardens to walk through, though the town is built on a hill so can be steep in places.

"Your ticket will include a return trip in an ensuite cabin. During the mini cruise, you can take advantage of the host of leisure facilities including a children's play area, cinema, a choice of three restaurants, bars, casino, fitness centre and swimming pool."

I'm guessing these are all added extras, cinema will be £10 a ticket? Swimming for £5 a person?

And 5 hours 15 minutes IN DOCK, which gives around 4 hours in Spain if it's on time.

On the flip side, £36 for 3 nights accommodation isn't bad at all. I'm sure plenty of fun could be had in that time! Would be great for a couple, or for a group of students/kids looking for a cheap getaway!

When whales or dolphins are spotted they announce it on the tannoy system

Smokers: There are only a couple of designated smoking areas located on outside decks, though these can be closed due to bad weather as we found out on our last trip which reached force 11.

i did the one way to santander. drove down to Roda . last year from Plymouth, Nov, with Brittany ferries.. similar time in Spain before the return leg 4hrs or so didnt seem worth it

there was quiz , bingo, some bloke and a bird singing, disco etc etc, food was ok not cheap, cinema( Star Trek) was fine, even though the ship was rocking about , dunno about the booze bit as I was too worried about being sea sick.. did use them band thingys and pills and I was fine duty free was so so not as cheap as the duty free at Bristol Airport ..

lol. Just like me last time we went. Spent most of my time sleeping in the cramped cabin.
Though the time we went before it was really calm both ways.

There's a few video's on youtube showing how rough it can be.

I did this trip years ago, in Feb and the route sailed through the Bay of Biscay, one of the roughest parts of ocean anywhere.
The storm was so bad, they changed direction and tried to sail around the gales.
This meant and extra day on the boat.
Up shot was, that we were compensated with food and drinks vouchers.
One the last night we were seeing people for the first time as thay had never left their cabins due to the vomiting!

Can't think of anything worse. 3 days on what's basically a cross channel ferry? Pass the sick bag. Yo ho ho it ain't :pirate:

Must admit it's a good price though, if you ignore the fact that it's 3 days worth of boat.

Same here, never felt sick on a cruise before, but this crossing was terrible would not recommend, look at the amount of people saying this!!
If you still decide to go -- good luck. :w00t:

Chief executive Helen Deeble said: “The Pride of Bilbao has served us well but is now an old ship nearing the end of her commercial life and needs to be replaced"
If this is the case I'd imagine it's pretty skanky - doubt they have spent any money on it for a few years if it's retiring. Think I'll give it a miss, but hot price though!
We recently went on their new ship to France - the Amoric, was very impressed.

Being sick in a cramped space?

This is why I never take the lifts in the flats round the corner.

I did this trip about 12 years ago as a cheap valentines trip for about £99 at the time.

things to note: this is a ferry and not a cruise ship!

the trip thru bay of Biscay was rough on this boat! (doubt it has stabilisers), i have done this since on many pando cruise ships and never had it as bad as on the pride of bilbao.

the cabin we had was small with a bunk bed (but what do you expect for the price!)

i dont think there was any daytime entertainment (might be worth taking a few books)

pool was small - think about 10mx10m

at the time there was two places to eat, the restaurant ( i think was expensive) and a shop selling sandwiches etc.

i stopped in the port when docked, not much to do to be honest, make sure you take the trip to bilbao

I used this crossing once to take a car over to Spain - quite pleasant but the food on board is neither great nor particularly cheap. I'd say it's fine as a mode of transport but I'm not sure I'd want to use it as a holiday - especially for such a short time in Bilbao.
