Just set mine up yesterday when it was recently £259. So this is a good price. Took about 5 minutes in total to get setup and going. Compared to the 4 hours it took me for one of my enders. Very user friendly. Very much a beginner printer. Also controlling everything through phone app is super handy and getting notifications when print is completed. Also great.

Bambulab A1 mini has a smaller build plate but may be easier for someone new to 3d printing to just plug and print.
    dush_yant's avatar
Unfortunately Bambulab doesn’t run a business from a UK base - see trustpilot for horror stories about DOA and faulty orders which manufacturer blatantly refuses to accept returns or send replacements for.

Stupid question, but what else do I need to purchase to do my first print after purchasing this please?

    Just filament

If you dont need the larger build volume then go with a Bambulab A1 Mini @ £229 (or if you can afford it the main A1) - it's a far better product and you can upgrade to multicolour printing when you're ready. Ankermake has already canceled a few products that were supposed to go along side this printer and sales haven't been strong (hence the constant firesales) so wouldn't be surprised if they pull out of the market.

Multi colour printing intrigues me, I currently have a ender 3 for a few years and made many hundreds of keyring type prints and articulated animals but modding doesn’t interest me and bed levelling is a chore so i want to go plug and play.

Do you know if the bambulab can do the colour lithophanes? And is the A1 the best (fastest, quietist, easiest, etc) I can buy with a £500 budget? I enjoy making 3d prints and I enjoy watching my son learn the apps but I’m pretty clueless around 3d printing generally. Many thanks.🙏 (edited)

Can anyone recommend a good comparison guide for someone thinking of starting with printing? I was previously recommended Creatly Ender 3 S1 pro.
    daveham's avatar
Personally I think this is better that the Ender. This is very much plug and play and there will be a lot more tinkering with the Ender. Ender is a very popular brand but lower tier. They do have an excellent community however and loads of cheap aftermarket parts and mods.

Their software is garbage and only works on Mac and windows.

    So like 99% of people?

A great beginner printer for the odd small print.

    Anyone know the following?
    1) How noisy it is? I have a flashforge dreamer that despite doing a lot of mods (drivers/fan mods) still sounds like a noisy old laser jet printer/photocopier running all the time which means I barely use it
    2) What the minimum size space I need for it? My flashforge dreamer sits on a 40cm extra deep Ikea billy bookcase perfectly (its a nice enough looking box design). This looks like it would over hang in its place but is that a problem in practice? Or could I just turn it 90 degrees?

Been watching youtube vids on this today. Consensus is is that it is quiet and compact.

I use one of these, it's my first machine and a fantastic starting point. Easy to set up, good quality of life stuff to get you started.

With more experience now I would prefer access to a Bambu with AMS, but splashing out that much when trying out? Nah.

If considering it, but unsure which one - this isa great choice. Bambu also apparently excellent.

And what would be the next step?

I have this and it’s fantastic, anyone tempted at this price do it!
    clavier3895's avatar
What do u print with it? I’ve seen people just print useless things for the most part
  14. klaus.basingher's avatar
    mildly tempted...

As a beginner you can not fault this at all. Brilliant price
  16. daveham's avatar
Thanks, been looking for a price drop on this and was waiting for it to drop to £245 again. This is even better.

Just got my Ender v3 KE refunded by Amazon due to a know fault with them and this is perfect.
    mad.dog's avatar
Care to elaborate? Been running my KE for a while and not had any issues so far? Would be good to know what to look out for

Is 500mm/s fast for one of these ? It seems pretty quick to me
    daveham's avatar
Yes, although printing that fast will compromise on some quality. The Ender 3 which is one of the most popular starter printers prints at 50-60 mm/s.
  18. Sutats's avatar
Can someone please print an acorn with a pull handle so I can guage the smoothness of the print quality.
  19. biggly_wiggly's avatar
    Far too tempting!!!!!
  20. Goldy6660's avatar
Anyone had theirs despatched from Ankermake?
    wundaii's avatar
Nope - they invalidated the code for new orders so here’s hoping they honour existing ones!

    Bargain
  22. Met-Cast's avatar
How does this compare to the Bambulab A1 Mini for a first printer?
  23. Pr3d's avatar
Yeah code not valid now 😔 was about to order.
