How does it compare to Philips Ambilight? I’m tempted to get one for my Sony OLED.

I have 2 Philips Ambilight TVs and 1 Samsung with the Govee T1 backlight. The inbuilt Phillips Ambilight is better.

The Phillips is pretty much instantaneous whereas the Govee has a slight delay. As someone else has said a lot of white scenes show as blue. The Govee is still great and very cost effective - I personally wouldn't shell out for an Ambilight box and just settle for the slight imperfections - at the end of the day you are watching the screen not behind it and the Govee gives good bias lighting.

Apart from the cost the problem with the Ambilight boxes is that you have to run HDMI through them so can't get the effect when watching normal TV or native apps on the TV. The Govee is great for what it is and I highly recommend it as an active backlight.

If you have the cash and use external sources like a sky box the Phillips Ambilight box is the better option but it will cost you about 6 times as much as this Govee kit the last time I checked.

I would personally go for the newer version without the side lights if you're going with Govee Govee Envisual LED TV Backlight T2 with Dual Cameras, DreamView RGBIC Wi-Fi Double TV Lights Beads for Adapts to Ultra-Thin 55-65 inch TVs, Smart App Control, Music Sync : Amazon.co.uk: Lighting (edited)

The Govee T3 lite has a 25% off voucher bringing it to £67.48.

It does not have the side light bars, only the behind the TV light strip, but apparently much improved colours and improvements on the delay.
    I ordered that instead. (edited)

It’s the same price on their website but you get £5 off for signing up so it’s £62.50

I have an ambilight TV and almost always have the effect turned off.

It's cool for nature shows, but for most movies and TV shows it's pretty annoying once you get over the initial novelty.

agreed. I have a govee striplight on the furniture around the tv instead. Set the colour I like and leave it there.

Looks to be the lowest price it's been according to Keepa.

People already talking about replacing their T1s with the T3.

Personally I'm going to wait for the T5 as it will come with a turbo

But it may run hot and need an intercooler, not forgetting it may also need an oil cooler?

I've just upgraded from a T1 to a T3 lite and the T3 is much better. Much faster colour changing and better accuracy.

I suspect a T3 pro (dual camera model) will be out soon, and this should improve things further.

Any deals on Philips HUE, only down part is HDMI 2.0. Heard that may work well with a HDMI 2.1 splitter.

too bad i'm out of HDMI slots...
