Load times for getting into a race are like 3 seconds since Spec 2. Its much faster than any racing game out there. Massive improvement!

Since when did you have to sell your cars? I wonder if some people here are even trying to troll effectively? You are better off upgrading the car rather than selling it. A race gives you so much more credits than selling a car. The game tells you what cars will be competing in a race so you can make sure you are prepared going into a race. If you cant do it then do another type of race. Simples. Its an open ended game

The bottom line is that Gran Turismo 5 for ten pounds new is excellent value. I worked in the games industry for my sins. The game is a simulator and the best of its kind on the PS3. If you can afford a wheel then its even better. If you looking for an arcade racer check out Burnout Paradise or Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (to name but two). There are other good racing games, some have been mentioned here already. At the end of the day its all a matter of opinion so do your research.

The platinum edition of Gran Turismo 5 is the same as the normal edition. Some platinum games have more content than the normal editions but not sure about GT5. On a plus note the second hand value for GT5 is currently more than this version new. The deal is excellent.

Lastly why are some folks harping on about Forza and the Xbox control pad? A brilliant game on a good console but has nothing to do with GT5 and the PS3.

Less fun than a cardboard box.

Always loved the Gran Turismo games since the original on PS1, but even after all the patches, I've never really warmed to GT5. Be warned, the updates must run to several gigs by now. I've updated over time, but I'd imagine since updates never seem to max out the speed my line is capable of, updating from scratch would take many hours!

Game should have been a tenner since day one really.

Shift 2 was a complete mess too. Must have been something in the water that year.
Plus I think people are too proud to admit that Grid was the last genuinely 'enjoyable' racing game.

I have to agree i bought it from best buy and got it 2 days early sold it one day early and made a fiver it was terrible not the same experience i had from a spec for ps2. They say its so realistic well i found it was like driving a 600cc artic lorry with a 1000mph blizzard hitting you in front and cornoring wasnt much better

    Just my 2p.

With a wheel this along with GRID and F1 2011 are 3 of the best racing games I've ever played.

Can't understand all those saying it's not a great game and having to sell cars to progress. I've not sold a single car and completed the game easily, albeit with a lot of time.

Maybe a wheel makes it? I don't know any different.

Bought it on release and sold it soon after.
Driving was good, apart from the fact I found that you kept having to sell your cars to participate in the next race, which got really long in the tooth pretty quick.
And often you'd be in races where your car was seriously underpowered and you just saw the competition drive off in the horizon.
Didn't think much of go cart and nascar either.
    But at £10 it's worth a shot I guess.

Agreed on all of the above points. The game just takes itself too seriously sometimes - you just want to race but before it lets you do that you have to go through the hassles of selling a perfectly good car just to buy an old heap to participate in some one off event after which you can sell it for peanuts and you're not better off than before. Load times are pretty scandalous considering the game install weights about 8GB and then keeps on installing additional stuff during playing.
    Nevertheless recommended at this price.

As mentioned the game has been patched to improve the driving physics and is vastly improved.

no need to sell cars with the seasonal races earning big money, have 1100 cars and if you get in a good clean room online with friends the game is great.

    Good find OP heat added.

Shift doesnt compare Anyhow I think people should decide for themselves and be surprised at how nice it is. Its come a long way since launch too.

Frankly Forza is where it's at, tried to play GT5 and found it so much less enjoyable, and not just because of the awful PS3 controllers. I'd get Forza 3 over this for a tenner 100x over, but guess it depends what console(s) you have.

So basically because your console is a 360, instead of spend a tenner on GT4, you would spend around £1500 on a hundred copies of Forza 3?

I think an ever evolving game is a good way to describe GT5.

The levels arent that important anymore due to the new content so you can blaze through as a newcomer and catch up.

I hit level 13 in 20 minutes without doing much. At launch it was quite different...

This is my favourite game this whole geenration (Wii, PS3,360, PC)

I have to agree with the negative comments. GT5 has no personality and … I have to agree with the negative comments. GT5 has no personality and brings shame to the series. Quite possibly the most boring game i've ever played. If on-line was lag free then it might be worth a tenner but there's little chance of that becoming a reality on consoles.

Since when did GT5 ever have lag issues? The trolls are out in force.

I found it to be an excellent driving game overall, spoilt a bit by cumbersome menu structure and slow loading times. I think they've patched it to improve those aspects though. Might pick it up again at that price.

A very good game and a bargain for 10 quid. A bit tedious at times and lack the variety of eg, Test Drive Unlimited 2 but stylish and playable all the same. Agree that loading times are a let down... this has improved somewhat following the release of the patch and also switching my HDD for a 7200rpm model with 16MB cache.

You need to compete in some Seasonal challenges. Pick up easy money to buy new cars that way. I've never had to sell one yet and plenty of cars in the garage

tempting to get it again at this price - just need to find out if any of the cars are I previously had on my old ps3 are stored or backed up anywhere. Not interested in my game progress but would love the cars back.....

PS3 controllers arent awful, But I have Xbox and PS3, and sorry to say GT5 was rushed out, even though it wasnt really fully finished. I think GT6, will give Forza a run for it money. The real question is will be out on the PS4 or 3......

I think part of the problem was everyones expectations were raised to level where anything they did was going to fall short. The game isn't perfect (none are) but its a fantastic achievement.

Cheers - not perfect, but a lot of game for a tenner...
  32. deleted208873's avatar
now that I have a wheel I'm quite tempted to get this again because the handling is pretty spot on it's main problem is that turning a corner generally has to be done at about 50mph and this feels and looks more like your moving at 15mph taking away the fun factor load times are long graphics and content are excellent at this price.

Prologue version had terrible car physics - handling was totally off for the most part, little possiblility of controlled drifting / sliding into corners - either you go slow or you spin.

    2nd that!

GRID was proper fun, fantastic damage engine, best online races…. then server switched off!!! I found GT5 more like work than fun. But would agree £10 is a bargain

    Shift was better than GRID.

Can't agree with you on that. GRID hit a better line between realism and arcade for me that made it immensely fun. Shift was decent but had the usual NFS issues, mainly handling (IIRC).

As for GT5, it's for die hard driving simulator gamers that use gaming wheels. Doesn't work quite as well without one. But for £10, it's a good deal.

If this is the original non updated version like I hired from Lovefilm then Just be prepared to wait a long long time (Gigs not megs of fixes to download) before you can actually play the game.
