heres a review from which magazine.

If you're looking for a bargain tablet the HP Slate 7 could be the answer. While it might be cheap, this 7-inch Android tablet from HP - a well-known computing brand, still has front and rear facing cameras and comes with Beats Audio. But how does the screen measure up to competitors and does the battery last long enough? Find out in our full review. The HP Slate 7 is a basic tablet that's good for simple tasks such as surfing the internet and watching video. The screen is reasonable and the battery life is ok. If you want to play games or do anything more high - powered steer clear.

    What is it?

A seven-inch Android tablet from well-known computer brand HP. Best suited for anyone wanting a basic device to use in addition to their everyday laptop.

    What's it like to use?

It's fine for simple tasks such as surfing the internet and playing video from You-Tube. But our speed testing reveals that it's not quite as nippy as the Nexus 7.This device is handy for commuters as its compact size makes it easy to hold in one hand while clutching onto the handrail on a packed train. It has a rear camera as well as one on the front. This is unusual for a cheap, small tablet. You won't find a rear camera on the Nexus 7 for example. The quality of the images is ok but the video can be a bit grainy. The Beats Audio speakers make a small but noticeable difference to the sound quality when compared to other small cheap tablets.

    What's the battery life like?

A quick half hour charge provides a very useful three hours and 15 minutes of battery life.A full battery will give you eight hours of video playback - enough to see you through a couple of nail-biting tennis matches at Wimbledon. And if you're using the Slate 7 to browse the web it'll last seven hours and 17 minutes. This isn't bad for a bargain tablet but the top rivals, such as the Nexus 7 do have a couple of hours more stamina.

Is there anything I should watch out for?

The screen isn't up to the high standards of the Nexus 7. The resolution isn't as high and the colours are a little dull by comparison. We were also disappointed to find that it becomes very hard to see the screen in bright daylight. What's worse, the settings app repeatedly crashed when we tried to alter the brightness of the screen. To produce this tablet at such a cheap cost, HP has cut corners in terms of the touchscreen quality. It doesn't always register your touch and can be quite laggy. The Nexus 7 wins hands down here.Construction quality also reflects the low price. It feels plasticky and flexes a little. There's not much on board storage for apps and content. Out of a possible 8GB there's just 5.4GB available for you to use - that could quickly be filled up with a few films. Fortunately you can use the micro-SD card slot to expand the memory in case you run out of room.

    Should I buy it?

This tablet is ok for basic tasks but better cheap options are also available. Try the Nexus 7 - it's the best tablet around if you're on a tight budget.

Great price, but do feel that that's its correct price based on spec.

I have since bought a nexus, but if I hadn't, this price would have made me go for this.

I purchased this from PC World/Currys a couple of months back for £130 and thought that was a good buy but at this price it's a steal! Not a bad little tablet, not the best screen in the world but does everything I need it too. I got this case for it which suits it perfectly but gone up in price by £3.00 since I got it. amazon.co.uk/gp/…c=1

Got one of these yesterday from the Argos deal. Don't get too excited, £70 is about the right price for it. The cameras are rubbish and the screen is about the same standard as our Sumvision 7" tablet that cost £55 at Christmas - i.e. basic - but has a weird shape that stretches the pixels slightly. Not sure where the Which reviewer got their battery life figures from but lots of reviews say it's significantly less.

Not putting a downer on the deal, it's a good price, just don't expect anything more than the basics.

You bought Palm and put webOS out to pasture. And now, if you're HP, your first real foray into Android is a tablet that's nice from afar, but far from nice.Such is the HP Slate 7.

User review from recent HDUK purchaser Ribs85 from here

    hotukdeals.com/dea…953

Brought this today, using that telegraph voucher and will be claiming the … Brought this today, using that telegraph voucher and will be claiming the cashback. To be fair, the tablet is only "mid range"-ish... And for £129... I couldn't recommend it, "treat yourself to another £30 or so for a Nexus 7", I would say.. For £109 (after cashback)? Yeah, sure! For £89.99? I'll take two (actually considering this!).The reviews online all say the same thing: The screen is crap and the experience sluggish... But a lot of the reviews compare it to the Nexus 7, to be fair, that was a fair price for price comparison when it came out, but now with the cashback in the UK, and the price drop in the US, it's now firmly in the budget end of the spectrum, and now holds it's own nicely. I think the performance has improved as well (see below)The screen is fine. It's not stellar, but I honestly have no issue with it. The screen is not as good as the Nexus 7, but it's a fine screen in it's own right. Side by side, you'd be choosing the Nexus, but just as a device to actually use a live with... Come on, it's fine. Really. It's fine, don't worry about it. If you're someone that demands the latest and greatest tech, then you won't be buying this anyway. The screen is readable, bright enough, and the colours are good (see below). It wasn't that long ago we were using this resolution on our 14-17 inch monitors. So on a 7 inch tablet? Yeah, it's fine. The performance... Sometimes a little sluggish. But only sometimes, and only a little, and usually 'cos I'm being silly and asking it switch tasks really quickly. I don't play games, so your mileage may vary on that front.Do yourself a favour, and check for updates as soon as you can. There was an update waiting for me, and I've heard it helps with performance and general bug fixes. I can't vouch too much for this personally, as I applied the update straight away (I knew to check for it).I may be me being stupid, but I could've SWORN the screen was a bit better with the colours after the update applied. Everything seemed to "pop" a bit more after the update was done, but I was walking around with it this morning, so maybe the lighting conditions just changed as the sun came out or something daft. But seriously, looking at it right now next to me, the colours look alright...Oh, and apparently HP have "promised" an update to 4.2. But *never* count on such things, assume it will stay on 4.1 forever, and anything else is a bonus. I have a Nexus 4, and am on Android 4.3 with that.. To be honest, other than multi-user support (which came in 4.2), there isn't a single feature on this tablet that I miss with the newer versions. And, to be brutally honest, every new point release seems to introduce new bugs. I've noticed a couple on Android 4.3 since upgrading, so sometimes "tried and tested" can be better.Be aware that apps that *require* GPS will not work with this tablet. You can, however sideload them. And to be honest, you should be pestering your favourite app developers to make the requirement optional, and not mandatory (it's DEAD easy to do, I know, I program apps). I've had to pester Google this evening to get the Device Policy app I need for my business to change that mandatory requirement, as it loaded fine when I extracted from my phone and loaded to the tablet, so that says it all really.Seriously guys n gals, this is a CRACKING tablet for the money. Really, really nice. At £109 (without the voucher, but with cashback) I recommend it. If you have the voucher as well, you're laughing. Buy a case to go with it or something.Go in with your eyes wide open and reasonable expectations, and you'll have a really nice tablet for not much money. If you want high-end, look elsewhere (in fact, wait for the new Nexus 7, not long now!), but for a very nice bargain, with a couple of compromises (such as no GPS, or NFC, or QI charging - again, go high-end for those if I'm honest), it's a cracking deal.Side note: Don't be tempted by those CnM tablets. They are cheap and nasty and AWFUL. I've heard first hand horror stories of those things freezing, not charging, and having an unresponsive touchscreen. (Someone I spoke to it on his FOURTH tablet, only brought the first one a month ago)Really hope this helps people. If you have questions, fire away.
