sorted byNintendo really don't want to succeed do they.
Also, the NVIDIA shield which this is loosely based on is £200. Factor in the tech involved in the Joy Cons and the dock and £279 is reasonable.
Also, a lot people have short memories. The whole purpose of this machine is to concentrate Nintendo's efforts on one platform. The 3DS sold incredibly well and we are seeing lots of RPGs from Japanese developers being announced for this.
Also to the person who recommended that person buy his family a PS4 or Xbox when they spent lots of time and enjoyed their Wii U? You just don't get it, not even worth trying to explain.

No, the launch price is very high considering it's performance is poorer than the three year plus old PS4 and Xbox One, either of which is a better buy IMHO, likewise games and accessories are priced up to crazy levels to fleece early adopters. Could say this for all new systems to a degree but the switch seems about the worst value of recent systems, especially considering the Playstation 4 and Xbox One console refreshes have been such good value e.g. you could get a Xbox One S and Fifa 17 (not a fan but it's still an OK game) for £200 last year. Shortly after it launched and the PS4 slim was a similar price, even at £350 the PS4 Pro is still good value when you consider it's specification advance over previous systems, and it too could be had a fair bit cheaper if you shopped around.
In summary absolutely do not buy a Switch now, I'd say get a PS4 or Xbox One, which can be done really cheaply now, especially if you are ok with the 'old' non redesigned versions, and catch up on some of the great games you'll have missed having only a Wii U, which received next to zero third party support.
If you absolutely must have a Switch though, I would wait at least till the end of the year as there are likely to be some decent bundle offers by then at least...

it is expensive for its specs and launch titles
£59.99 is a PLACEHOLDER price
Both xbox one and ps4 titles were £59.99 placements before launch and dropped to standard retail price £40-45 (some places £37)
So expect within the month for them to drop to the £40 mark
Well, to be honest, Nintendo could have released the most powerful, amazing piece of hardware of all time and given it away for free and you would have had naysayers delivering doom and gloom.
Most of the Ninty fanboys hold their hands up and admit it's a little over priced and the launch games a little underwhelming. I'd imagine they just get fed up with folk banging on about horse power (vs PS4/XB1). Like it or not, Switch does deliver some gaming experiences that PS4/XB1 simply can't match. But why does it need to be all black and white all the time?
Those considering it but unsure - don't bank on a price drop in 2017. Pre-order stock is pretty much sold out which is a strong indicator that this will start life fine. There will be huge demand spikes at points during the year (particularly once Mario Odyssey arrives ahead of Xmas). And I suspect E3 in Summer will deliver a whole lot of specific game details/support/surprises that will keep Switch in the limelight throughout the year. It's really far too early to determine whether 3rd party support will remain strong but don't base anything on that Nintendo presentation earlier in week - these sort of things are consistently vague. Both Sony and Microsoft have been guilty of the same in the past.
Hating on Nintendo is trendy. People have short memories about what they've bought to the table over the years. They are still worth approx $800mil more than Sony's entire company, they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. They absolutely have made some missteps and will certainly make more, that's just the way it goes but overall they are a net gain to the gaming industry, more so than any other company historically.
Really is a shame Nintendo don't know how to run their multi-billion dollar company as well as all the experts who have popped up online after the Switch launch.

I'll never forget buying the N64 at launch with Super Mario 64 for £249
3 months later it was £99......oO !!!
£50/£60 is pretty much normal now for brand new consoles. It was the same with the PS4 and Xbone. It'll probably come down to £40 within 6 months.

It isn't for me, very little time to game now and when I do it's working through my massive list of unplayed Steam games, but, I hope it does well.

Please never start your own business
Sony sick a pair of VR goggles out for 350 quid and no-one bats an eyelid. Nintendo release a new console that actually breaks the mold a bit and and it's too pricey.
Madness....
Keep your WiiU for now, plenty of mileage left in it with the games that are out - I want a Switch but as it stands I'd just be buying it for Zelda - which is coming to Wii U anyway.
Value for money is in the eye of the beholder I guess...

Normally Nintendo Consoles are a bit pricey at launch anyway, and they rapidly deteriorate in price, you could always wait.
I say carry on enjoying the kid/family friendly Wii U and avoid paying the launch price for Switch. You'll be able to get that new Zelda game launching with the Switch on Wii U too. Because of the type of console the Wii u is it doesn't feel long in the tooth at home, yet.

You're also not understanding the difference between the Joy-Con Grip and the Switch Pro Controller.
ffs why do people keep comparing the Switch to Xbox one etc it's NOT what the Switch is trying to achieve.
it is providing a home console which can be used anywhere in the house, and comes with a hi definition tablet....the price is more than reasonable for the kit you are getting.
it is going to have a huge software library once developers start moving from 3ds to switch. that is what is going to happen
I agree , pointless buying right now, bit only because not enough software. nothing to do with the price.
If we're basing everything on raw spec and writing consoles off if they don't match up then surely we shouldn't be advising the Xbox One anymore as it is considerably underpowered compared to the PS4 Pro. In fact the difference between the XboxOne and the PS4 Pro is larger than the XB1 to Switch. But then wait, what happens when the Scorpio comes out, if the alleged spec is correct then it's going to have a bigger power difference to the PS4 pro than the previously mentioned ones. Essentially people should only have the technically very best machine out at the time?

Omfg this. The market is flooded with multi-platform games across PC, Xbox and PS4. I would bet that most of the audience for a Nintendo Switch has one or two of those consoles with multi platform games. For Nintendo to attempt to crack that market would be suicide commercially. It's absolutely impossible to compete in a market that as mature as that space is.
Enter the Switch. It's carving a space into the market with ingenuity and differentiation. A hybrid console that betters the generic casual gaming android tablets on the market, when in handheld mode, but holds its own in docked mode with clever controllers and game design that might pique the interest of PS4/PC/Xbox owners.
Rather than being a "me too" console appealing to the same audience of "gamers" they are asking consumers to consider this as another console purchase. Probably not the only gaming device you have in your home, but one that slots into your lifestyle in a comfortable way without feeling like a replacement of your existing gaming set up.
If you want PS4 graphics get a PS4. If you are expecting Nintendo to produce PS4 graphics in a handheld at this price you need to have a word with yourself.
Sorry, that's just not true.
The PS4 on launch had games which were all roughly £45. That's a good £15 cheaper than this abomination.
Sorry, but it very much is true. Every major new console has games with an RRP around £50-60. That doesn't mean the games end up costing that amount as retailers cut the prices by a few quid, usually down to £45-50.
I think it is a very safe bet that Switch will outperform Wii U comfortably
Sigh. Fanboys and Dumb People. Sounds like the name of a new Netflix original documentary about the internet.
Your opening line shows how ignorant you are. The last thing you can say about Nintendo is that they are irrelevant. Have you seen the numbers on Pokemon Go and Mario Run? Have you seen the demand for the NES Classic?
Say what you want about this launch as it is certainly flawed but this thing will sell well as those who grew up with Nintendo in the 80s and 90s are now grown adults with kids and the idea of a hybrid system holds a lot of appeal.
You want it to fail. No worries.
Also, thanks for clarifying that Nintendo are "literally" charging for their online service. I thought it would be theoretical. Like you only pay if you want to or something.
No, I'm afraid you need to just admit that you don't have the technical knowledge to understand aspects on the choice of the screen resolution in regards to the Switch. It's been explained by developers who know what they are talking about. a 1080p screen would have made the games look worse; drain the battery quicker; and made the Switch more expensive. You can't explain the plus points of having a 1080p screen on it, because there are none.
People who are simply consumers and not tech designers, are too prone to just believing the higher the number is, the better it must be... and that is not always the case.
Read the dozens of hands-on writeups and videos of the Switch and the screen, please. They all say the Switch feels like an advanced piece of tech and screen looks totally great. So, you need to ask yourself what you are getting so worked up about exactly - it's a none issue. You need to focus on all the other current bad aspects of the Switch.. the screen isn't even on that list!!!

Ive got one on pre-order. Cant wait
No one else can offer Zelda though
Well, for a start, I'd love to see that portable PS4/XB1 you've been playing on your commute to work!
I don't mean to single you out but folks have got to stop saying this nonsense. Putting aside the fact that people have been saying things like that since the N64 (no CD drive?! Beginning of the end!) if you do a bit of digging you'll discover that Nintendo is amazingly well placed financially for years to come. Think Scrooge McDuck swimming in mountains of gold sort of financial security. Their past successes in hardware and IP is staggering. Then factor in that they never sell hardware at a loss and you'll build a picture on how safe they are. We'll never know the answer to this but I wouldn't be surprised if WiiU hardware only sales made more profity vs PS4/XB1 combined - Sony and Microsoft sell at a loss and heavily reliy on their online subscription/digital services which are worth billions.
Nintendo need to get with the times - you can see them trying it with the new online model (which no one has serious details on yet) and I like a lot of what Reggie is saying about that. But bottom line is that Nintendo, if they wanted to, will release consoles for generations to come.
And to those who say their sales/marketing is mince - just look at what they did with Pokemon Go. Fantastic timing of updates actually drove the new 3DS games into being crazy successful titles in the run up to Christmas. They'll do the same with Mario Run. I can see them releasing cut down iOS friendly titles as a means to drum up serious interest in their "proper" games.
Anyway, conscious I'm coming over as a rabid fan boy - apologies to all!!!

Sony treated the Vita like crap so it never reached its potential. Look at the 3DS, it's a worldwide success.
Wow oO
Take a breath man. No mention of life and death on my end, think you've gone a bit overboard there. Why do they make you so angry? I can't believe that you want Nintendo to try and compete with Sony/Microsoft. And what? Make games like Mario Kart 8 look and run better with more realistic handling? Turn Splatoon into a military cover-based shooter? (They could change the name to Platoon actually.)
You make some reasonable points. The online service sounds very weak but it's free for 6 months and we don't yet know the full details or what it is going to cost.
Also, they will be updating the SNES/NES games, adding online functionality and most likely new modes/challenges. The idea of focusing a community around 1 retro game for a month has some appeal. How many times do you see the PS plus games lineup get released and 95% of the responses are "What is this indie crap?" and "I'm never going to play any of these". Who plays 5 or 6 free games a month on top of what they already buy? And who goes back to them months down the line? Especially when the vast majority are terrible/unheard of.
The PS4 and Xbox didn't launch at their current prices so comparing the Switch's launch price to their current price isn't fair. It's also a completely different type of console and is unique in this day and age. Xbox and PS4 are iterating on their consoles in measures of teraflops. Fantastic. Shadow of Mordor runs at a higher frame rate now, isn't that great? Also, the PS4 Pro can't even keep up with the old PS4 in some cases, are you willing to criticise those who shelled out £300 on that too?
I own a PS4 and I love it, I really do. But my last point and most important one is that I am never going to play any Nintendo games on it. I would much rather see a Nintendo that isn't afraid to take risks and as a result creates games and experiences you just don't get anywhere else. Microsoft and Sony will make bigger and beefier consoles (well they are basically PCs at this stage) and Nintendo can be left to do what they do.
Have to say again though, the "its expensive but less powerful" line is just a little lazy and short sighted. It's actually a little sad that the home gaming market has regressed to the PC Master Race approach to things.
I actually want a switch, but the fact that the wii U has held it's price for so long has me worried. As a PC gamer it's hard for me to justify an expensive console that has expensive games that requires an online subscription that I don't need apart from certain sub games that is kind of falling out of style, and even then seems inferior to the xbox and PS sub models.
You can like and look forward to the switch. But lets be honest, nintendos popularity isn't what it used to be. If you're not going to acknowledge nintendo's flaws, you're reinforcing how out of touch they are and they're just going to fall behind when consoles provide a better console experience, pc's provide their own better experience in ways PC gamers are for, and mobiles have progressed so much that there's no reason why they won't eventually provide what nintendo is trying to provide since the switch is basically a tablet.
Personally I want to see some bundles, potentially a cost discount and cheaper games for me to think more about getting a switch. 1-2 switch imo doesn't seem worth £35, after all it's basically a minigame that most people will lose interest in fast. If you think otherwise that's fine, but let's not glorify nintendo and make it so that the Wii will be nintendo's last big success. If they addressed some of the concerns people had, that only increases their relevance right?
. why are people comparing it to xbox and ps4 ? this is not in any way supposed to compete. if they put fifa cod etc on this 98% of the fan Base is still on other consoles. the point is you get to play big 3d party games in a very good HD format on the go like fifa and skyrim....finding a plug on a train and airplane is not hard. and you get the full force of Nintendo's first party . not split down the middle like with 3ds and Wii U. If I was shown a spec sheet I'd be interested but I'm not gonna go "wow zelda looks awesome as does Mario but now iv seen its only 1.6tflops I'm canceling my pre order. that's madness. it is very expensive for the average gamer and could well fail given Nintendo's track record but people are judging this against things that in my opinion do not matter. ps2 less powerful then xbox sold better same for Wii and so on.
