sorted byGreat phone for the money, there's better WP phones (lighter, faster, better cameras) but this still holds up well and for the money is a bargain. Heat, despite wishing it wasn't so cheap.
I don't pretend that Windows Mobile is better than iOS but it shows more innovation and more premise than any iPhone or Android phone in the last 5 years.
Sure - the app store doesn't have as many apps, but do you have 1,000,000 apps on your mobile? How many apps does the average person actually have???
Windows Mobile has all the apps that I use on a regular basis: Whatsapp, Skype, Vine, Sky News, Facebook, Twitter etc.
Being 'popular' doesn't make the phone 'good'. Android is the most popular OS out there yet it's awful. It's a cheap, inferior rip off of iOS and doesn't function half as good.
You appear to have misspelled iO$
Hi in$anity - I also have three email addresses I use regularly - all in the linked inbox - but I AM a big fan of the WP system - each account syncs when I want it to, I can manage them within the app and they all go in their respective folders. In short, I very very rarely use my PC to manage my emails any more - instead, I manage them on the phone - takes seconds.
Pros:
-Built to last, seriously, this thing is solid
-Camera, the only better cameras on smartphones are the ones on the newer Nokias, this is still better than any Samsung/Apple/Other camera on the market except the 925, 1020 and 1520
-Microphone, you don't often see this commented on with a mobile but when shooting video, it's very hard to overload the mic on this thing. I've shot short scenes at loud gigs and the sound is very clear on playback, not the distorted mess that usually occurs on other phones.
-WP8 OS, contentious perhaps but the Windows OS is a very slick user experience and stands out from the crowd. Apps aren't really an issue anymore either (honestly, they haven't been since about a year ago)
-Nokia Apps, Nokia Maps & Nokia Drive are truly excellent. You get one of the best in-car sat navs on the market free with this phone! You can also store the maps locally on the device so it isn't munching through your data to keep the map relevant.
-Skydrive, integration with Skydrive is excellent
-Office, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, One-Note. You can open & edit all these on WP seamlessly.
-Screen clarity, colour depth on the screen is far better (deeper blacks, more vibrant colours) than competitors.
Cons
-Heavy, one of the downsides to it's built-like-a-tank-ness
-Screen Resolution, great colour but not a very high resolution, Still looks sharp though.
-Storage, 32Gb*. No option for expansion, no MicroSD card slot. It's fixed. You do get a free 7Gb on Skydrive though for owning a WP. (*29Gb actual space, 2.5Gb used by the OS so 26.5Gb for music, movies, photos & apps).
So-So
-Battery life, gets through the day, barely with moderate use.
-App Store, it's not bad, people who tell you it is probably haven't owned a WP, it's not great either, just OK.
wicked!
Did I see something about 4G being free to all Tesco Mobile customers too? Or am I imagining it?

buffoon....
I genuinely think this might be the first criticism of android I have ever seen.
Not that a post like yours warrants a reply but I'll take the Nokia apps on this over the few irrelevant android apps you're probably referring to , exactly which apps are such an issue for you by not being on the windows phone store btw, please enlighten me
You'll see a lot less 'Resuming...'
Just picked my Nokia 920 up off the back of this deal (PAYG) and can confirm it is unlocked. Currently using a Ovivo Mobile SIM in it.
Happy days!

Apps - there are a lot less apps than on ether of the other systems, but all the major ones are there, and I fing that iOS & Android always seemed to have about 20 versions of the same thing. What it does lack in apps though is (the latest) games. However, I'm sure I read that WP8 is outselling iPhone in much of Europe, so I am hopefull this will improve with market share........though avoid Star Wars mini deathstar as you'll lose 5 hours in every day sat in the toilet at work trying to build the next level.
Cover - I've tried loads, but by far the best is Nokia's own rubber cover in black (the other colours seem to attract staining which can't be removed) - the fit is so good that 99% of people won't realise it has a cover on and it adds very little to the size. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this phone grows gargantuan when it's clad in leather, so I'd avoid that.
Oh, and if you can get one cheap then make sure you buy a wireless charger - makes life so much easier and saves ruining the usb socket.

One does not simply assume that the phones are locked by merely looking at the sticker...

Was it the tesco Pay as you go version though?
Tesco also have this:
tesco.com/dir…prd

Probably means that three are terrible.
I'm on their network and can't wait to move away.
What good is all you can eat data if the data fails constantly?
Trying to feel better for what you have bought i see, enjoy your inferior unpopular windows mobile and the vast amount of apps and stuff!! ...(_;)
this line was unfunny before the second 'o'...
Ideally I'd like to put my giffgaff sim in it, but after researching it sounds like you need it unlocked (double lock on tesco phones). Tesco require you to have had the phone for 9 months/have £150 credit before providing you with an unlock code.
Are third party unlock websites reliable?

The HTC 8X is an excellent handset, even now that I have a Lumia 925, I do still miss the extra ROW of tiles that were able to be displayed on my 8X.

The Nokia apps are excellent - that is why they are desirable. To me at least. They do only show up in the marketplace if you have the right phone.
You are right about running unsigned code, though as I said, I haven't got round to hacking my Ativ S yet, though I will if the desire takes me.
As things stand, I am happy enough with the Ativ S - the battery life is just brilliant for a smartphone (at present = 12 hours off charge = 69% left - and I use my phone a lot), it is roomy enough for my needs both in terms of storage and screen size, it is a solid, dependable handset and it offers a very good camera, albeit the 920 camera is widely known to be better.
As for Androids - I've had my fill of them over the years, both in phones and tablets. I've outgrown them and I stick completely to Windows Phones now, and have done for over three years. They do everything I need, do it fast and dependably, do not have the security compromises that Android suffers from and have, from my perspective, a fresh and modern interface which is an utter joy to use. Compare that to the mess that Android offers (I recently rooted and ROM'd Nexus 4's for my daughter and wife, and that remided me what a PITA Android can be) and I will stick to WP8 ta very much.

Battery can sometimes be massively affected by just an app or two having a bit of poor code. I know with my 520, I had a couple of apps which through trial and error I removed and they were the cause of heavy battery drain. Once they were gone the battery life went back to normal, which for the 520 was easily a day.
and how are you supposed to do that? i think you will have to return your phone as well
I thought of doing this however I read the conditions and to pay off the phone you have to take out a new 24 month contract.
Paid £81.50 and the phone is mine.
Line is cancelled without charge.
I could have made use of the one month line rental I paid in advance but I chose to cancel immediately.
Total cost for phone = £81.50 (paid today) and £12.50 (paid instore) £94

I bought 2 yesterday. Both had a sticker on box saying locked to tesco but both were unlocked.
Both had there sims already in phone in sealed box.
If the phone was broken why the hell would you want to pay for it anyway?! I've just spoke to them on chat and as expected they said if you pay the phone off and want to cancel you have to pay off the remainder of the line rental unless you upgrade to another phone. That's the only sensible way they could do it otherwise people would take the **** left right and centre I mean they're only going to give you this phone for £80 if you pay the line rental for the 24 months cos it's the only way they'll make any money on the deal. If you manage to cancel and get out of the line rental agreement and keep the phone you're very lucky and I can't blame anyone for trying it..
What don't you like about the OS? I much prefer it to Android and iOS. Being able to just look at the tiles and see updates without opening apps is such a great time saver. I also really like the design over a mess of icons.
Not as many apps sure, but there's still 200,000; not exactly a problem. Everything most people want is there and the Nokia and (surprisingly) Bing apps are great and better than most alternatives on Android.
Well said, although I prefer Android to iOS which has failed to progress in the last 3 year, What Windows Phone does is give users a choice. My son got a lumia 520 - try finding an Apple or Android phone for £60 that does anywhere near what that does. All his friends loved it so much they all have one now. And that's the beauty of Windows Phone, take away the bias snobbish brainwashing by Apple and you have a bunch of teenagers who can make their own choices - unlike some of the appledroid adults out their who have never actually tried to get used to something new.
