Top it up with any Airtime Rewards balance, then it is effectively free

I bought one of these with the intention of transferring an old number to it that I still need to keep for occasional incoming calls.

Added £15 top up via a voucher and tried to register for "My O2" only to continually get an error when trying to do this online. The same happened with the app. Called their CS and discovered (after making 3 repeat calls as I couldn't quite believe what I was being told) that there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to register for My O2 with this plan. The only way is to upgrade to a monthly plan.

What this means is that if I did my intended number transfer I would be at risk of completely losing the mobile number that I've had for years if I ever happened to lose the phone it was in. All this because O2 won't let me register personal details against the SIM (I'm pretty sure this must be against some sort of Ofcom regulation but didn't investigate further).

I have now ditched O2 and will never use them again. Just want to warn people that this may not be the bargain it seems to be if you're using it for a number you need any control over.

Mine is attached to an online account without any issues.

Has that phone number previously been on O2? I know sometimes the accounts system will act up if the number already exists and won’t let you make another account.

I got one of these last September, then on April 4th O2 deactivated it, after calling their csc I was told in no uncertain terms that the sim had expired, even though I had used it and there was still £14 credit on it. On the first call, the guy said he would get it reactivated and the credit put back on within 24 hours, which never happened. So I called the csc again, was told it had expired, but both reps would not tell me exactly what that meant, on this call I was told that it couldn't be reactivated, and I had only £9 credit left because on March 28th £5 worth of data had been used, which wouldn't of happened because its a backup sim with data switched off they then went on to say that the first rep tried to reinburse me the £9 but that could only go onto the sim number that had expired so I still couldn't of got it back. They then tried to sell me a fixed contract to get the money back
In the end I had them send me out a new pay&go sim but what I have to do is activate it then call the csc to have my old number ported over to get the original credit put back on, which I haven't done yet.
So I guess it's worth a punt if it keeps on working but O2 can "Expire" the sim at any time

    I guessed it was
Being partially deaf I couldn't understand a lot of what was being said to me, I kept having to ask them to repeat theirselves

I thought O2 had discontinued this tariff last year?

I bough a few it this some years ago and last year went to pop one on my house alarm only to find that the SIM card activation date had expired.

O2 told me that activated sims would still work but the newer tariff would need topping up every month??
    stellamaris's avatar
The "Classic" tariff is still available but O2 stopped marketing it and issuing sims directly a few years ago. Ones that are available via 3rd parties continue to work but appear to be restricted (see my last comment). You can no longer reg for "My O2" unless you change the tariff so you are basically left with a working SIM but unable to register the number to your name.
  5. jon89's avatar
can i use my current number with this?
    andy2004's avatar
NO.. read above.. O2 will tell you, you would need a PAY MONTHLY account and top up every month.. someone else posted the information.. above..

Reminiscent of 3's 3,2,1 PAYG tariff which had credit that would roll over indefinitely. Then the price gouging <expletive deleted> scum hiked the tariff, not byba little, but by several hundred percent "because they could". It still rankles.
    W0nk0's avatar
Yep, I fully feel the same. I had been a happy 3 customer for years before they did that and now I would actively recommend against them. My PAYG SIMs are now not in my phone but are still active though as I'm eeking out the remaining ballance just using them once every six months purely to needle 3 back a bit. Shame.

I've had one of these 321 sim card for years well worth it 👌🏼
  9. jimger's avatar
Why is it that good deal? U can get Sims from most providers for free? What am I missing?
    KodaBear's avatar
The fact that you get the classic tariff that’s no longer available elsewhere. 3p a minute, 2p a text, 1p a megabyte and with credit that doesn’t expire. It’s great for light users.
  10. superdry's avatar
Received 2 sims today. Was next day delivery. Put one in a phone didn’t need anything done received calls and sms fine.
Do you know how long without topup will it work for ?
    Crossbow's avatar
It is hard to tell. If you cannot get a conclusive answer here, it may be best posting this in the O2 Forums community.o2.co.uk/t5/…p/2
Bottom line... if in 6 months you don't top-up or make at least 1 chargeable call (top-up required, so no escape either way), it can be cut off according to their T&Cs. (edited)

I've posted a deal for 2x sims for 20p but the seller changed the price. However, not bad price for even 1.

It looks like o2 may have clarified the topup rules late last year, but some customers still got disconnected...

  16. Dopple's avatar
How often do you need to top up so you don't get disconnected?
    martin.clement's avatar

  17. databar's avatar
I bought this 6 months ago and could not find a way to top up the sim. just went round in circles,
o2 says this tariff is discontinued.

Ordered thanks OP. Outta curiosity, I'm guessing I'll still be able to port numbers onto this SIM?
    johnsmith1997's avatar
I've tried porting Asda mobile to o2 payg classic but no work for me.
Called helpline and man with funny accent always says will be 'tomorrow' but never happened.
They were more interested in setting up a new contract for me.
  21. amully9's avatar
Can you use this sim for o2 priority without topping up ? Or you still need the minimum £10 top up. If you need the top up, you can get a sim for free from o2 anyway and get quidco on top too
    mrpops2ko's avatar
you have to top up to activate it, i just recently switched here today after migrating away from spuspu or whatever they are called.

i really wish spuspu was viable for calls, but its not - maybe as a data only sim it'll work
  22. zxcvbnm's avatar
Bit Bizzare you can still activate these. I thought they stopped making hem several years ago.
  23. kurtcobainmedico's avatar
I want to check signal etc before topping up with £10. Will it be possible?

    How many did you order?
They also seem to have some strict rules on eBay membership status.
I did two separate orders just now and have 'your order is being posted' emails just come though. (edited)

    Thanks OP
I was also on the Three 321 deal years ago which worked well for my usage.

I'm trying to get the £10/month SIM only deal from Vodafone but want to transfer current Vodafone number to that (as I understand you can't transfer directly voda to voda). Does anyone know if I could I get this PAYG, transfer my number to this (then transfer to New voda)?
    AuraGold's avatar
Vodafone and 3 has the best reception I’ve ever seen up and down the uk, I’ve tested voda in Edinburgh, Canterbury, Cannes (south of France were obvs it changes to some French name) and I’m from London… O2’s network doesn’t seem as good to me but then again Vodafone took their free wifi from the tube so now I’m stuck on most lines without wifi
  29. AlexM20's avatar
They've start cancelling the orders, out of stock maybe?

Brilliant to use for Asda for the new user £5 reward when it appears from time to time
    gizz_mo's avatar
How does this work? Do you have to set up a new rewards account with a new phone number? Can your address be the same as another account though?
  31. ngs's avatar
Just got 2 sims for 40p
    Bbqueue's avatar
You mean you've ordered 2? There's a reasonable chance you won't get them though, this seller has a history of randomly cancelling orders!

purchased 2 let's hope they 'll arrive. I needed one to use in a phone just around my house on wifi but needed a real phone number to receive confirmation sms (iCloud, etc)
    t3r4's avatar
Could have used a free SIM order directly from O2 or Three for that
  34. jon89's avatar
