What do these do? Are they normal bulb replacements when one blows, or are they for replacing existing working bulbs to get brighter light?

Reason I ask is I think it's a menace when you get people who don't know what they are doing fiddling with their cars. Whenever I am being dazzled to death by someone's lights it always turns out to be some horrible old motor that some nit has "upgraded" with super-bright bulbs.

    Shut it Grandpa!

Shut it Youngster! You have no idea how the maximum light emitted from a H7 bulb is. Google it and you will find the most obvious answer in the universe..........

All H7 bulbs are the same lol

Please try and keep up at the back Harris - the manufacturer designs the lamp housing and reflector to very close tolerances and as soon as Mr. Nit gets the brainwave to install a completely random spec of bulb the carefully designed light output thing is ruined.

It's not about the amount of light emitted entirely. The housing that surrounds the bulb is deisgned in a way to cut off the light at certain points to avoid blinding an oncoming motorist. It's when you install a different type of bulb, i.e HID/Xenon, which has a different beam output compared to halogen bulbs, causing the light to scatter everywhere. Some people think that because they have a "projector" style lense that was originally designed for a halogen bulb, it will be ok to use with a HID bulb but that is not the case at all because once again, the lense was designed for a speicifc beam pattern which is found in Halogen bulbs, not HID's.

Furthermore, Halogen bulbs emit a small amount of UV light which is usually insignificant and the major manufacturers (Phillips, Osram etc) uses a filter to remove the UV. HID bulbs emit extremely high amounts of UV light, which thankfully the major manufacturers do actually filter it out. However, this is where it gets dangerous, the major manufacturers do NOT produce or sell "aftermarket" bulbs for the consumer. These are fake bulbs made in China for peanuts and do NOT have a UV filter in place. So when your retinas feel like they are being burnt out, they are. Literally. (I worked with 3M and some of their Vikuiti filters for LCD screen transmission...very cool stuff!)

These Osram Nightbreakers are still halogen bulbs, with a slightly thinner filament, which means it burns at a hotter temperature, creating a whiter light and more light. Sadly these won't last as long as standard halogen bulbs however they will NOT blind oncoming drivers as the light beam output is identical to the standard halogen bulb.

If you want to run aftermarket HID bulbs, just think about this, if you are involved in a crash, even if it is not your fault, the other party can claim off you. The simple reason? Your car is not in a roadworthy condition, as the headlight bulbs do not conform to EU rules, therefore it is illegal in the UK too.

To anybody involved in a crash with aftermarket HID's, call the police, notify them the cause of the incident was due to the other vehicle being in a non-roadworthy state, therefore the persons insurance is invalidated as those "modifications" have not been declared to their insurers. Then the other guy gets screwed over and can't get insured for a decent price for the next 3-5 years LOL

Bulbs only available in twin packs are poor value because when one blows you end up having to buy another two.

The Philips ones ARE legal, show me where it says they aren't as I'm using a pair at the moment (and it just passed the MOT with them) ?

As to this deal, even though I have the Philips ones, when they die i'll still be going back to these Nightbreakers as the Osram ones gives a really good white light, whereas the Philips ones still seem slightly yellow

I also had the same problem, so I actually started to keep the receipts for them as I realised I'd need to for my free replacements

Have only ever seen issues with these on the newer cars, the older style cars I have had, with these bulbs, have lasted the life of the car - which for me has been about 2.5 years before it was written off!

Code only seems to work if you select it for the Toledo which clicking the deal link above inserts as your car on their site. Other makes/models and leaving blank results in the code not working....assuming the bulbs are absolutely standard H7 477 I guess this wont matter?

    Voted Hot and ordered

It isn't worse value - just save the other one until you need it, or change as a pair and save the working old one as a backup spare.

I've got some of these although I think they were 'night breaker plus' rather than unlimited. I've had them in for 2 years now. I had read that they didn't last as long as others with people complaining of them only lasting 12 months (my car has the headlights on all the time the engine is running).

Thanks for reminding me I need some for wife's car. They last about 6 months and I always change them in pairs keeping good one as spare.
