+ Different technologies, OP's deal is a Panasonic Plasma (much better natural colours etc etc), The Sharp is LED.
Sony used to lead the way with TV's but that was a long time ago in the old CRT days, since then they have relied on their old reputation which for a few people seems to be enough.
Panasonic have been the market leaders in plasma since Pioneer dropped out awhile ago, however with LED tech it seems like Samsung are currently leading the way. Maybe this will change again once OLED becomes commonplace.
This is still a good deal from RS. Does anyone know if they still charge extra for delivery? I'm looking for a new 55" LED next year but on principle I'm not going to pay extra for delivery, which should be standard on this size & weight of TV.
You can get the Plasma version as well for the same price.

I picked one up on boxing day. Cracking TV for the price point.
The choice of LED or Plasma is up to you, but as above, over 42" plasma is still the best option if you want a stunning natural image, and not a cartoony image of LED.

Thats because the KDL 803 has always had a 3D backlight problem, and your comparing this tv with one thats 4yrs old
So is it better (cheaper) to just get an LG? I thought they were inferior to manufacturers such as Panasonic.
Getting back to this TV, is the consensus that, since it is larger than 40", it is better to go for the plasma version of this TV, rather than for the LED version listed?
Only just saw that..:( Was looking at this TV earlier and had it on my wishlist and kept refreshing to see if the price would drop as predicted tonight at 7:30pm. Nothing.. Then went to do a search of other TV's this size and it came up under Lightning Deals for £699. Gutted! 14th in queue for it so no chance. Hopefully will lower in price again..

Wow you are quick - deleted post as TV was just a spec lower than advertised on top. But still excellent offer anyway:D. Im still looking at 50-55 inch TVs to upgrade my 40 inch Bravia Telly of the year 2011 :P (KDL-40EX503). Im saying be patient and it will drop lower m8. As soon as I find some telly worth mentioning Ill post it here.

Thanks prezesmaks. Managed to get one in my basket just now at £699 but hesitated a lot and it expired. Been looking for a decent 50-55" myself for a while. Have £620 in Amazon vouchers saved up for it on my account so would prefer to get one from them to use that credit. Spent today looking at reviews and they are quite good for this telly. Wasn't really bother about 3D so it kind of suited me fine. Now wondering what to do.. You really think it will drop lower than that at Amazon? That's the lowest price it's ever been on there..
OMG just deleted my 15min essay by accident. @£@%. Anyway congrats on your vouchers Tony. Thats quite a backup for telly purchase. No wonder you are hunting at Amazon. Ive got high hopes m8 for mid-late Jan myself. Currently I can buy for £899 brand new with 5 years warranty KDL55W805(personal offer-not available for the public). Still think It will drop at least £100. 4k is storming the market. Eventually they have to "make some space " for newer models so Yes Im pretty confident it will drop more or they will at least make regular price sub £700.
Anyone got any thoughts?
