Was £1399. Mega price drop. This looks like a last minute offer from Currys for this stunning TV which is essentially the same as the TX-55AS650B offered by JL for £1,479. I don't think it qualifies for the Panasonic £200 redemption as that specifies the TX-55AS650B model instead. Not sure if JL will price match either but it is definitely worth a try.

Nevertheless, I think it's a good deal with these extras:
+ 1.57% Topcashback
+ £50 off a £750 spend using O2 Priority Moments (valid from 07/06/14 - 16/07/2014)
+ Up to 2 years extended warranty if you use a HSBC Premier credit card to purchase and register
+ Cash for Goals (£10 for every England goal or £5 for every Brazil goal. Need to register by 23:59 14th June 2014)

The new AS640 VIERA TV - exclusively available at Currys & PC World - offers an impressive viewing experience combined with a stylish and premium design.

It also comes with Freetime built-in, which means you have the freedom to watch what you love, when you like. You can get the advantages of roll back TV (for the past seven days), access to all the major On Demand services including BBC iPlayer, iTV Player, 4oD and Demand 5 and receive great daily programme recommendations, straight on your TV!

With My Home Screen you can have your own personalised screen when you switch on your TV and with TV Anywhere, you can watch your favourite shows on the go on your mobile device through your TV!

    Yes.

Better with a top of the line 1080p panel than a "not quite sure if the spec will hold up" early adopter model 4K TV.

And while there may be 4K/UHD sets around now, there isn't much in the way of content. Plenty life in 1080p yet. Plenty folk only just making the move to HD now, no way they're all about to shell out again on 4K ....

It's difficult isn't it. I need to replace a panasonic plasma, but it seems wrong to spend so much for a worse picture. I think the sony's you mention are some of the better LCD/LED's but they cant match plasma, especially for sports/fast moving pans/gaming.

Lol 1200Hz motion rate now we are just getting silly. Why can't the industry come up with an accurate measure to compare screens so its easy to tell a TVs with fast response times that dont suffer from motion blur......

For those with membership Costco instore only. Currently have the 650b on offer at £1067.98 inc vat. Then the £200 cashback from Panasonic.

Offer is currently in their offer mailings-not online.

You get a 5 year warranty, bear in mind that you have to maintain the membership each year to be able to claim within the warranty period. Not so much a problem if you renew membership each year anyway.

Not really, maybe some small cosmetic change. What it does is ensure that the retailer who they are specially made for does not have to pricematch elsewhere as they can say that it is a different model exclusive to them.

640 is Curry's exclusive in UK.

It uses a "VA" type panel which if you look across reviews generaly is said to have better black levels but worse viewing angles than "IPS", and it also has active 3D (like the sony 50W829). In other respects the spec is similar to the 650 (the 650 is available in 47in whereas this one is available in 48in)

The other Panasonic with a similar panel is the AS600 for which there are a couple of reviews on the web.

The AS650 & AS640 are not the same. 640 has a normal va panel, 650 ips both are passive 3d. 650 has USB recording & TV anywhere, 640 does not. TV anywhere allows you to watch and setup new recordings on most phones & tablets while you are away from home. You can also watch live TV ANYWHERE in the world even BBC. The 650 is far superior.

Also I checked this TV out in Curry's, the picture was not smooth for 1200hz. Some Barcelona match was on. It was no where near my Samsung TV which has 200hz native refresh rate.

Re ludicrous refresh rates, you may want to check this article out which gives you the REAL refresh rates compared to the manufacturers claims . rtings.com/inf…ate

What about the W905 from Curry's for about the same price...to be honest £1200 sounds like crazy money to spend on a TV especially as I've just spent loads on a holiday...on the other hand i feel like i need to replace my 720p low - mid range LG plasma from 2009

As supremestar suggested, I would stick with the newer model, i.e the KDL55W829. This has an improved panel compared to the w905 which, apparently, wasn't without it's problems (Google it). If price wise this is a bit too much of a stretch (it is for me!) go for the smaller 50" version, the KDL50W829 which has fantastic reviews and can be yours for £850 with a 5 year guarantee at Richer Sounds.

For anyone interested in the 60", I got JL to price match the following:

    http://www.powerdirect.co.uk/product/PANASONIC-60-Smart-LED-3D-TV-FreeviewHD-Freetime-TV-1200Hz-WiFi-TX60AS650B

Which reduced it from £1899 (JL price) to £1599 (power direct price) and after the £200 cash back it will ultimately cost £1399.

This is for my parents, as their set unfortunately died the other day They'd had it for 8 years now, so they were looking to replace it, just very unfortunate timing as were hoping to take advantage of the post WC offers (rather then have to buy in the WC bubble).

Seemed about the best bang for buck. Were a little tempted by the Sammy 4K sets (which have excellent reviews on Avforums), but thought it better to get something to tide them over until the OLED 4K sets become more affordable, rather then spending £3k on the Sammy 4K LCD's.

Currys do this so you can't find a cheaper one of their models

This is the same as the John Lewis one same spec but has a different model no, as it is made for the currys group, john Lewis won't price match as it is a different model no. There is also no £200 cash back at currys or free 5 year guarantee. But despite that not a bad price.

Also I think the 640 has a VA panel, which likely means better blacks but poorer viewing angles over an IPS panel.
