About this deal

Perfect Dark (18), Unboxed (Exp. Pak Game)

Perfect Dark is the sequel to the huge hit from Rare Goldeneye, and is set to become the biggest game of 2000. Set in the year 2023, you play the role of Joanna Dark--named Perfect Dark--a female secret agent who works for the Carrington Institute. Joanna is assigned to investigate the DataDyne Corporation who have their hands in some seriously suspicious business. In her investigation Joanna discovers that the company is hiding extraterrestrial beings of both good and bad stature. The technological enhancements that have gone into the development of Perfect Dark are extremely advanced. Players will encounter some of the most deceptive enemies to ever haunt the N64. Artificial intelligence has been designed to equip enemy characters with a number of unique skills including long-range teamwork, cover recognition and the ability to assess potential threats.

Perfect Dark boasts some of the most gorgeous graphics and some of the most realistic environments ever seen. Real-time lighting produces astonishing visuals and special effects like explosions, dust, steam and sun glare. Add to that Rare's own surround and acoustic-shading technology and you're playing a game that sounds as good as it looks. Because of the sprawling size and scope of the game, Perfect Dark will require the use of the N64 Expansion Pak for the solo missions and 3-4 player multiplayer modes. Only 1-2 player deathmatch-style gameplay and the Challenge Mode will be available without the use of the Expansion Pak.

    cart only price

and a bad one at that

FYI CIB (boxed with manual) in good condition go for 15-20 on ebay and at least have some residual value as a collectors item

Tempting. I've had the box and manual in mint condition for 20+ years. Never got around to replacing the actual cartridge after some sod nicked it.

cheaper on ebay and you'll get to see the condition before buying

imho don't spend more than a 5er with postage

Respectable price for the game. Ideally should be played with the 4mb ram expansion pak (I think you can still play some levels without). The expansion paks are going for dumb prices, but they seem to have come down compared to a year ago.

On that note, I don't know how to feel about retro prices these days. Before the pandemic, I could consistently get genuine PS1 games, gameboy, etc from ebay and specialist retro game shops/pawn shops or conventions for decent prices, with CEX pricing typically being a bit overblown by comparison (but having the warranty as the key selling point). Nowadays CEX seems to undercut the aforementioned by £1-£3 on many of my purchases this past year, especially for anything slightly more niche (as long as it isn't the obvious high ticket stuff like Fire Emblem on gamecube or Suikoden).

Weird how this game is maybe a fiver at most online, yet Mario 64 is way more common and people pay through the nose for a copy of that.

I will never understand Nintendo game collector values.

Hopefully the remake project is still making headway...

Played this to death back in the day. There is a fan-made PC port out there if you have the ROM, which I have got working on my Steam Deck which runs great (and with modern controls - can never go back to the one-stick N64 controller now ) (edited)
