I think it’s their benefit not ours, fit more in a crate

How do I tell if it is ripe now, I always have pulled a leaf from the crown and if it comes away easily it is ready to eat....

I wrap it in old newspaper and place in a cool spot. When it goes a little brown i think its ripe...and it always is.

A pineapple is normally £1 or less. Saving 20p and losing the ability to tell if it is ripe or not isn't a good deal. No doubt they are far from ripe and the crowns are cut to shift them to the unsuspecting. Ice cold deal.

I never go by the crown always by smell and colour. If it gives off a sweet tropical 'ripe' smell and is no longer green but more light brown, it's ripe. If it starts to get dark spots it's over ripe. It is almost never ripe when you buy it, you need to give it a few days!
