sorted by1.7 ltr = 3 pints. No idea how kettles got to be that particular size. Or why "5 cups of tea" is considered the best size.
Just boiling 1 cup will likely be the "energy saving feature", which likely will just mean it got something like a plastic water level gauge inside the kettle since the clear gauges on the outside rarely go low enough.
I guess 5 cups is big enough to make tea for 4 people and still have enough water left in the teapot so that most of the tea leaves stay behind in the pot. (edited)
