The bags are £10 and the Filter is £30, seems kinda expensive to run tbh?

would be interested if any other shop vacuums are cheaper.
Look on ebay. TBH I never use the bags and it seems to work fine

I have had one for a while .great vac, very powerfull but found recently the hose has gone soft and kinked restricting suction if not held straight. Otherwise a great buy, just need to find replacement hose
Tell it these things happen sometimes and it's not his fault.

£22 at B&Q if you can find stock

Good spot but typical of B&Q none available in the Northern hemisphere.
The volume is quite low if you're washing the carpet; I have a bigger one and still get annoyed by the frequent emptying.

to be honest its never going to arrive, especially from the USA. i order some weedkiller from a us supplier never came got money back from amazon on a-z buying guarantee. However £4 won't hurt the pocket until i get my money back.

think they are scam (lots of new seller from USA lately without any feedback) so they get the money from lots of purchase.
Last time I sensed these scams months ago as they selling third of normal well sort after staffs eg computer, garden shed. But lately they are much clever sell staffs like these a few pound from a USA new sellers so they might get away with loads of transcations in small changes to add up a good sum of money in a very short time. (I did send note to amazon to report my concern listing but only get a formal receive message back, not sure if amazon would act at all).

For us, a few pounds with amazon guarantee seems OK. What worry me is that my action might funding a big criminal gangs (might be from 3rd world) eg cruel human trafficking, global slaves.

Hope amazon should do more then funding gangs in these ways. Not fair to anyone even we might not hurt our money pocket

I spotted one a few weeks ago with a seller name not dis-similar to "afgarhigiABNAIDJBNAIHbaeirnF".

I did send a query via Amazon, asking what the name stood for, but strangely they never answered.

yes & yes . Best invention since the halogen oven !!

Yes, they are very handy, but most of them (I tried Salter and Karcher so far) suffer from the same issue with batteries - they just stop charging at some point, that's absolutely bizarre.. :(
That's why I have switched back to traditional method - and it's less noisy too :)

I have this mug and its pretty good.

Yes it does leak a bit if tipped on its side and a LOT if upside down :P
I own a Ford Fiesta and it doesn't fit properly in the cup holder (bit on the wide side).

It does keep your drink hot for a long time though and looks pretty cool IMO.
I have the plastic one nice to drink from but pointless really as it leaks

Good find. Just a tip: The Price should be mentioned as £199.99 (and not £50). Probably the reason of getting too many Cold votes.

According to the instructions it is dependant on the size of the pet. Hamsters are pretty straightforward, can't see it coping with a St Bernard personally.

True story - all of the robovac companies are in a desperate scramble to the first to develop a hoover that will not grind animal poo into the carpet - it's a real problem that they are struggling to solve.

Always fancied one of these since my DC10 wont last forever. Should I be concerned that they've had 4000 returned for them to refurbish and resell??
They should rename from Dyson to "overpriced innovations"
"DC40 has a self-adjusting cleaner head that seals in suction on carpets and hard floors. There’s no need to turn awkward dials or press buttons".

Well TBH the User Guide indicates not to use the brush head on a hard floor. Since ours always starts the brush head when the vacuum is first turned on, you do have to press the button to stop the brush when going to hard floor. Plus when on a hard floor you can alter the power of the suction - by bending down near ground level and moving a sliding switch to your desired position. So the quote is not quite true.
Are aftermarket parts readily available for this like the dc07?
Just got mine delivered and used it on the weekend. very nice deal.

Exactly. Beware of brand prostitution. Before parting with the money, check which brands are still genuine & which are just badges renting themselves out to anyone.

Never blown or sucked a leaf in all the years I've had a garden. There is no leaf mountain at my door so someone must have dealt with the leaves on my behalf.
Do you live in a scutty area without trees?

No.

I live in a posh area with lots of trees.

Leaves disappear on their own.

No leaf sucking or blowing necessary.

Unless you are bored and want something to do.

Which is probably why the average purchaser of a leaf blower/sucker is an OAP with time on their hands.

I've got one of these and the motor burnt out within a month! I swapped it for new one. Its not bad but don't over work it as you are risking the motor. Don't be tempted to suck too much up at once either or it will be blocked and you have to unscrew the front tube off and unblock it. I think I only have one screw in mine because it needs unblocking quite frequently! I have beech trees and hedges so it sucks up all the nut shells and twig. The twigs cause a blockage.

They're just under twice the depth of an average step, so they will balance on them albeit a bit unstable. I find them a lot easier to deal with than the average upright.

Looks good to do a staircase carpet? I've an upright which is a pain.

The suction pipes on most of these kind of vac's are short, they wouldn't be good for stairs. You could try a hand held dyson? Ideal for stairs but they aren't cheap

Shark Lift Away Vacuum Cleaner NV350UK (Forest Mist) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M9A4WVO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_xfJxzb1SZ8BXG

Made more sense as you can still use the main vacuum head on the pole once you've detached the canister. Oh and it's 900w. The hard floor attachments are mentioned a lot as a useless tool.

Have you got yours yet? Mines arrived! Was in immaculate condition. Gave it a quick test (shouldn't have.... Should have fully charged it 1st according to instructions that I didn't read!).I'm very happy, doesn't seem loud at all. I already know this will be so much less of a pain to use and the easy bin emptying mechanism is a cinch. Hope you're happy with yours!

Same. Mine arrived today, as new except for a few small scuffs under the battery pack. It had some residual charge, which I used on the carpet that our old Henry had a go at earlier, and managed to fill the bin with dust and crap. Shocking.Anyway it's a nice thing. I'm glad I bought it!

As far as I know, this is the cheapest the V8 has ever been. I've been watching for a few months. If you'd prefer a new v7, slightly less powerful motor, but same bin emptying system, you can get that for £300 from Dyson or Currys. The deal with the new V8 absolute required you to sell the fan and I'm not sure everyone was getting £190 for them as the market was saturated.

You're right, some went for as little as £120!

This seems a decent price, but then Dyson regularly do codes & offers & stuff. The free fan/sell the fan was a good scoop, is it worth getting a referee one at this price, or hiding out for a Dyson deal on a new one?Thoughts?

I picked up one up yesterday and tested it with a sheet sander on the walls (This one). I plugged the sander to the cleaner and cleaner turns on as I switch the sander on and remains on for another 2-3 seconds when sander switched off. The suction is great and sucks in most of the paint dust. There are additional filters that can be bought for the fine particulate matter such as this which does not come with the original packaging.
There are also lots of hoses and attachements for various domestic purposes.

Didn't these a year back go for 40-50 quid?

Looks like that one had a smaller tank and weaker suction.

Edited By: willllllllll on Jul 09, 2017 17:34
My Wickes one just died after barely any use just when I really needed it. So just been and picked this up, its great. Large tank, very strong adjustable suction. And long warranty. Hose is a little flimsy feeling but everything else is good.

What could possible have happened in the past 12 months to drive the price up? confused ;)

Even allowing for brexit it still seems a large increase in price but still good value just not as good as it was previously.

So is there one that is recommended (Don't say the George!)? I have to say, this one has on the whole excellent reviews so I was surprised to read the above. I

'm toying between this or the rapide - immediate use is for a car but then on it would be for the house every so often. Given I have a "dry" vac already, the dry function on the 6131t will not be used so I'm treating it as a wet only just like the Rapide.
To echo above, good for upholstery, poor for carpet. Also the pump will die, I'm on my second replacement as pump has died twice in a year!

I got this the other year, it doesn't clean the carpet, it just makes it wet.

I had to just rent a professional one out that did the job.

Got it too, large attachment is pretty useless, but good results with the small attachment for cleaning cars interiors.

Dry vac is pretty poor compared to our other miele vac

Although I paid £68.98 deivered

I bought one of these and they need emptying all the time and the filter needs cleaning every few days the suction is very poor as well . I have had it about 6 months use it for about 5 minutes every other day I think I need to buy a better hoover as this has had its day. I would not recommend.

Not an ideal "main Hoover" but it's handy to lift off the dock and give a quick run around without any hassle. Suction is pretty good for a relatively cheap cordless vac and it has a turbo/spinning head

I got a pets performance vax about 3 years ago now. Still going very strong, only issue is the constant clogging of the filter! But you can buy extra filters for cheap and machine wash them too.
I've got the pet one too, £35 and it's been great for the last two years. I've noticed the same thing with the filters though. I wash mine out normally but it's probably well overdue a new one, where do you get yours from?

eBay!! Although one seller sent me the wrong one and claimed it was my fault. Would've cost more to post it back so just gave him a nice negative rating.
Still makes this one half the price. I ordered one on Monday, arrived today. Hot.

I have this, all I can say is the suction is MENTAL. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing, but on my flooring, once it gets a grip, I have to turn it off rather than pull it away as it'll yank the boards up. It does a good service on the carpet. also, for storage it fits in a square of a Ikea Kallax unit. Cord could be a bit longer. But we're talking about a 30 quid cleaner here, so of course it's not as good as a 200 quid job.

That suction might be a tad of a problem sometimes... but a good sign I guess?

Have got good feedback for Vax, specially this model. Reviews are good too on multiple sites.
I have bought two Vax and was unimpressed by either, take your punt if you like, would rather go Henry, Miele or Bosch

You are talking completely out of your behind. For starters, Dyson filters don't have to be changed - they're a lifetime washable filter. If you never wash it then it could deteriorate and need replacing. Not wishing a filter / going past the max fill mark is exactly why the cyclones get clogged.Dyson aren't used in industry because the level of cleaning doesn't demand something as intricate as Dyson technology. If you saw how much crap a Henry doesn't suck up / expels back in to the air you'd understand what I mean by this. The only way a Dyson's performance will drop off is if you've let the filter clog, overfilled the machine, or there is damage to the brush bar. I used to work for Dyson and the amount of times people would bring a machine back kicking off saying it was broken was unbelievable. They'd treat it like it was a bagged machine and would rarely empty it, and when asked when they last cleaned the filters, often they would say they never had.Yes you can buy a bagged machine, but obviously there's the ongoing cost of bags and filters for those.

Im talking out my arse. Why i am i not surprised that you are clueless. Name one m class dyson machine? Nope! Not a chance of a H class.. I doubt they would even pass L (low) class standards. Can you name one that has? .industrial machines are rated to a far higer spec than any dyson because they are designed to protect peoples lungs from toxic materials that can cause serious health problems..

Ive striped down a few of your machines and they are all just basic cyclones. Cyclones were used in industry to save on filters and bags long before dyson came along... Its all marketing mate. Your vacs are crap. Domestic rated at best.. Get over it
alexfn
Dyson (and its clones) are ironically the only vacuums that block they rely heavily on the filter meaning it has to be changed often. The cyclones also get blocked. Thats the reason for the massive amount of refurbs around. Its all marketing..You never see dysons used in industry for good reason. Their performance falls off dramatically. On any other vac that could be solved by changing the bag. On the dyson it means refurbing the machine.

I returned my dyson it was faulty I fine dyson not the robust products they used to be I bought a hoover hurricane more powerful and a third of the price.

I agree with them not being robust as they used to be. I guess thats why I make the most out of the 5 year warranty. After owning it for over a year the whole pipe has broke so called the engineer out. This will be my 1st call out since purchasing. I still would buy it only because of the 5 year warranty and at this price its great.

Ok so I got mine through today. It worked great but one of the accessories was missing.
So I rang currys and informed them. Would u believe the guys response - he told me to contact dyson and ask them to send me out the accessory. I was mortified.

He then suggested my best bet would be to return the item for a refund and reorder I think not.
Suffice to say I realised currys appalling customer services and demanded an immediate refund.
I most certainly will not be buying from them again.
Best bet to buy through dyson.
Jus ordered.. back in stock for home delivery :D
After the performance I had at curry's yesterday trying to return a faulty Dyson I'd never use curry's again totally TRIED to fob me off telling me I have to contact Dyson with a fault for refund as responsibility falls with Dyson this went on for some time of me explaining THEIR returns policy printed on the back of THEIR receipt ... NO it's curry's responsibility so I rang Dyson while in store and the lovely lady at Dyson agreed I'd been miss informed the staff were rude and uninterested and obviously looked pissed off when my point was proved.

Adding Heat. Was looking for reviews online but can't find any.. do you think the suction is good enough to remove dog hairs from a car Op?
A handheld would be better suited for cleaning the car.

Thanx for info :)
Obviously not close to the power of a mains vacuum but then I wouldn't expect it to be.

It is really light and manoeuvrable though and doesn't do too bad a job of clearing dog hairs from spots that a normal vac would be a pain to get into. Then you still have the handheld option for the car.

I probably got the last one from the previous offer and it is well worth £15.

I ordered one, its suction power isn't great but it has a rotating brush which helps to dislodge dirt. Being cordless and having a well designed charging cable means you don't have to fiddle about with plugging a power cable every time you need to charge it. Practical and great for daily topup vacuuming to get rid of dust but not suitable for your weekly scrub. It works fine on hard floors and laminates, would definitely not work on carpet.

Can we have some comments please, for voting cold :D . The same model is £152 on Amazon and around the same elsewhere.

Keeping any home or commercial premises clean and dust-free is easy with the variety of different vacuum cleaners and cleaning products on the market, even if pets share your home. Popular vacuum cleaners can be uprights or cylinder machines. Different specifications and power levels make efficient dust removal a possibility in any area and on flooring of all kinds. If cleaning is really not your thing, you can even opt for a robot vacuum cleaner to whizz around your home while you're out at work.

Vacuum cleaners buyers guide

How Long Have Vacuum Cleaners Been Around?

Motor-driven vacuum cleaners for cleaning carpets were invented very early in the 20th century, before this manual vacuum cleaners using bellows to provide hand-pumped power to clean or manual carpet sweepers were used. The first vacuum cleaner was powered by an internal combustion engine and pulled by a horse. The cleaner had the same essential design as modern vacuum cleaners and a number of suction tubes with nozzles from this first commercial vacuum cleaner were relayed from the machine in the street and into homes needing cleaning. Electric vacuum cleaners in the same massive commercial format were the next development and the smaller, more portable, vacuum cleaners we would recognise today were soon being marketed to householders. Popular European vacuum cleaning manufacturers included Goblin, Electrolux and Hoover. Upright cleaners with disposable filter bags were the main developments from the mid-1920s. After the end of World War II the use of vacuum cleaners became more widespread in the UK, with middle class households, in particular due to the fact most of these properties had carpeted floors.

UprightVacuum cleaner technology remained fairly static until the later part of the 20th century, when rechargeable handheld vacuum cleaners, filterless and cyclonic vacuums and computerised systems came to the fore. The first robotic vacuum cleaner was demonstrated in 2001. Other more recent developments include a hovering vacuum cleaner, as well as different types of air recycling methods that have been tested out.

Different Types of Vacuum Cleaner on the Market

There are a variety of different vacuum cleaners on the market, including upright models, cylinder vacuum cleaners, handhelds, stick vacuum cleaners and robotic machines. Some models use bags, while others take advantage of bagless technologies.

What's Best Cylinder or Upright Vacuum Cleaners?

Choosing whether to opt for a cylinder or upright style of vacuum cleaner is really a matter of personal preference. You may find cylinders are easier to move around the home and lighter than uprights, however, the cleaning powers of the brushes on upright models can give better results and help remove ingrained dirt from carpets. It's easier to use cylinder cleaners on stairs and hard or tiled floors as the long nozzles allow for cleaning bigger areas at one time. Cylinder cleaners are also better at cleaning right up to skirtings and into corners of rooms. Most cylinder cleaners feature extra long power cords which can be rewound into the body of the cleaner after use.

Upright cleaners can be better for cleaning larger areas of carpet, especially in expansive living areas or commercial premises. Another benefit of upright vacuum cleaners is they take up less storage space, this can be an important factor to consider if you live in a smaller property or apartment. The drawback to most uprights is that power cord length tends to be limited, so you may need to keep swapping electric sockets while cleaning. Eco-conscious consumers will find that cylinder cleaners need to have larger motors than uprights, so they tend to be far less energy-efficient.

Bags or Bagless Vacuum Cleaners? What is the Real Difference

Bagless vacuum cleaners were pioneered by Dyson in the 1980s. These cleaners feature a transparent waste bin making it easy to tell when the bin is full and needs to be emptied. The filters on bagless units are the major additional purchases, however, the filter won't need replacing very often. Although bagless vacuum cleaners are more expensive to buy, you won't need to purchase bags at any time so they will work out considerably cheaper to run over the long term. Some of the bagless cleaners on the market also provide anti-bacterial protections incorporated into the machines, which will reduce risks to allergy-sufferers facing problems with household dust mites or cat allergens.

Vacuum cleaners utilising bags do tend to hold more dust, but it's impossible to check how full these bags actually are without taking them out of the cleaner. Most bags will release some dust back into the air during the disposal process. It is possible to buy bags more suited for households with allergy-prone residents; these bags are self-sealing, so there are no added dust risks contained within the hoover bags during the disposal procedure.

Filtration Tips

Allergy sufferers will also find vacuum cleaners with better filtration allow less dust to escape from vacuum cleaners while they are in use. There are a large variety of filters for vacuum cleaners; these include charcoal filters which are great for neutralising pet odours, HEPA and S-Class filters to reduce risks to people with allergies, and lifetime filters which will last for the complete life duration of the vacuum cleaner.

HEPA filters are the gold standard filters for allergen removal, disposing of allergens such as dust, smoke and mould from the air. High-efficiency Particulate Arrestance (HEPA) air filters are used in medical facilities, cars and aircraft, as well as vacuum cleaners and need to meet certain efficiency standards. These filters have to remove 99.97% of all such allergens, in order to receive the HEPA rating. They are an ideal option for households with an occupant suffering from asthma or allergies.

Filtration

Motors and Power

The higher-wattage vacuum cleaners provide greater cleaning power and it's generally more important for cylinder cleaners to have higher wattages as dust and debris has to travel further up the nozzle tubes into the dust collecting waste cylinder. In the UK, all vacuum cleaners have to be labelled with a variety of ratings to indicate performance levels. Ratings range from A to G, with energy-efficiency performance levels being the best, A-rated models, while G-rated models are classed as giving poorest efficiency levels. Some of the other important ratings include effective dust removal, effectiveness on hard floors and dust pick-up rates from carpets. The noise ratings in decibels also need to be labelled within the product specifications.

What's the Big Deal With Cordless Vacuum Cleaners?

Several vacuum cleaners in the top ten bestsellers listing are now cordless. These stick vacuums are much, much easier to use, lift and store. Some of the top-end models do have great suction power, although when it comes to deep cleaning of carpets, a cordless vacuum will not perform anywhere nearly as well as a corded cleaner. In general, you can expect stick vacuum cleaners to perform as well as corded models on most hard floors. Batteries on some cordless vacuums only last about 15 minutes, so these products really cannot be used in bigger properties or for major cleaning jobs. You should expect to get no more than about 40 minutes use out of the top cordless vacuum cleaners. The stick vacuums need to be charged at the docking station when the battery is flat.

One of the major benefits of cordless vacuum cleaners is they can be used anywhere, at any time. As long as the product's battery has enough charge the cordless can be used to clean in areas where there may not be any electrical sockets or where sockets are difficult to access. Cleaning cars, caravans and camper vans is easy with a fully charged cordless vacuum cleaner.

About Stick Vacuums

Stick VacuumsStick vacuum cleaners are a good choice for smaller homes and can be used on carpeted or hard floors. These vacuums are a versatile option for modern consumers as they can generally be used as handhelds for cleaning cars and caravans or will easily whizz up the stairs for cleaning as well. Stick vacuum cleaners generally feature rechargeable batteries, which can be charged up when the product is not in use, although there are some corded models on the market. Getting used to a rechargeable vacuum cleaner can take a while, because it's important that the battery has enough power every time you need to vacuum your home. Although these vacuums aren’t marketed as powerful cleaners, some of the best stick vacuums have more power than inexpensive cylinders. In the main, you should not use a stick vacuum cleaner for heavier cleaning jobs, as they're not really designed for heavy duty use.

Stick vacuum cleaners are extremely lightweight, therefore they’re an ideal choice for seniors who may be struggling with continued use of cylinder or upright vacuum cleaners. They look a little like long broomsticks, with a head that is no more than about 10 inches in width and will usually swivel through up to 180 degrees. The useful swivel head makes it easy to clean backwards and forwards. If you live in an apartment or smaller home, these vacuum cleaners are easily stored - very often the handle folds down to make the cleaner even more compact during storage.

Most sticks have a detachable bin for the collection of dust and debris and they tend to be bagless. Some sticks feature HEPA filtration for allergen removal (this will be noted in the vacuum cleaner specifications). Accessories for sticks are limited, as they are aimed at a target market with limited living or storage space. Some of the popular manufacturers of stick vacuum cleaners are Dyson, Bosch, Dirt Devil and Bissell.

Convertible Vacuum Cleaners

Some convertible vacuum cleaners are on the market. It's possible to buy uprights that can be converted into stick vacuums or cylinders. Some cylinder vacuum cleaners can also be used as handhelds, making it far easier to clean stairs or use the cleaner as a portable for outside jobs.

Handhelds

Handheld vacuum cleaners are great for clearing up crumbs or powders and small messes. They can be either battery-powered or corded, although battery powered handhelds are a good alternative cleaner for using both outside and in the home.

Additional accessories that could prove useful include the turbo brushes supplied with some cylinder cleaners, as these will clean pet hairs better, or brushes for cleaning wood or tiled floors with greater effectiveness. Some vacuum cleaners have a number of tools and added accessories that can be purchased separately to make different types of cleaning an easier task around any home.

Other Types of Vacuum Cleaners on the Market

You can buy more powerful vacuum cleaners for cleaning homes with pets, particularly useful if shedding hairs is a problem. Wet and dry cleaners and steam cleaners work on similar principles to normal vacuum cleaners and give you the opportunity to deep clean carpets effectively.

Robotic Vacuum Cleaners

Robotic vacuum cleaners are on sale but may be an expensive cleaning option for most homeowners. These tiny cleaners can be left on all day and will return to the base station at regular intervals for recharging. The robotic cleaner will scan and map the entire floor area and ensure every available part of the carpet is cleaned. Inaccessible areas of carpet where pets may be sleeping will be automatically cleaned once the animal moves location.

Robot vacuum cleaners have a circular, disc shape and programmable timers so you can set the cleaner to vacuum floors while you are out. If cleaning is just not your thing, then a robotic vacuum cleaner could give the cleaning assistance needed around the home. The cleaners have inbuilt sensors so they don't get damaged by walls or furnishings and their internal memories mean rooms will be fully vacuumed, as already stated. The small size of these little vacuum cleaners makes them ideal for cleaning under furniture, however, the main drawback is that available power levels makes them less efficient at cleaning than traditional vacuums which feature greater suction power. Prices for robotic cleaners are dropping now, as they become more commonly available, but it's unlikely you'll want to rely on these types of cleaner alone for your total vacuum cleaning requirements.

Vacuum Cleaning to Remove Household Pests

Regular vacuum cleaning can help keep homes free of household pests such as bedbugs, spiders, fleas and dustmites. Although cleaning won't remove all eggs, it can help you retain control of the situation. For bedbug infestations, it's best to use a crevice tool at the highest power levels and not press too hard on the surface of the bed. Once vacuuming is complete, the dust bag needs to be cleaned, as bedbugs will not be eliminated by the cleaning process. Spiderwebs can be easily sucked into a vacuum cleaner.

Vacuuming mattresses and bedding will also maintain control over dustmites and fleas, if your pets are allowed in all rooms of the home. Regular vacuum cleaning and effective flea control measures will reduce or eliminate problems with fleas with sustained use. Pests such as cockroaches or silverfish can also be cleaned up with a vacuum cleaner. It is important to empty dust bags just as soon as pest control is over, otherwise you may just be moving the problem to another area of the home.

Supplies for Vacuum Cleaners

One of the main considerations when buying a cleaner with a bag is just how much filters and bags will cost and where they can be purchased. Some specialist cleaners may require manufacturer supplies, however, it's usually the case that cheaper bags and filters can be purchased in homeware stores just as long as they are compatible with the make and model of machine owned.

Popular Makes of Vacuum Cleaner

Some of the popular makes in the UK include Hoover, Henry, Dyson and Kenmore. Retailers selling vacuum cleaners include Currys, Argos, Tesco, Asda and department stores such as John Lewis. It's possible to buy vacuum cleaners online from a variety of sources, including Amazon, Appliances Direct or Grattan Shopping Catalogue.

Buying a Vacuum Cleaner

Before buying any vacuum cleaner, it's a good idea to check physical properties in a few shops. Some retailers will allow you to turn vacuum cleaners on so you can trial out noise levels and suction power. You will also discover whether or not different models are easy to move around and adjust. Picking up different vacuum cleaners allows you to judge whether they will be suited as well; if you can’t easily carry a cleaner, then it won't be much use for regular cleaning in your home. Some cleaners weigh as much as 25lb, so carrying them up and down stairs on a regular basis can be impossible for some consumers.

Check out whether the vacuum cleaner you prefer can reach under furnishings by laying the nozzle flat on the floor. Vacuuming when flat is an impossibility for some makes of cleaner. Finally, try adding different nozzles and accessories to ensure the cleaner is easy to use, check that bags are easy to remove and replace and locate the filter unit to make sure you will be able to replace filters as and when needed.

Although you won't be able to check how good your vacuum cleaner of choice actually is at removing dust and debris, these initial tests in the shop will give you a better idea about the product.
