These work great and do a really good job - the only problem is they are unreliable - dogged with charging failures and other electrical faults - got mine replaced within 2 months of original purchase - now its knackered 10 months on - will not charge, only used it a handful of times. Recommended it to family -who also bought them and they have also had similar problems. Look on amazon and read the reviews - loads of problems. Can't beleive this from a manufacturer such as karcher
£9 delivery to Northern Ireland!!!
good deal checked eBay used one going for £30 to £40. bought one
Brilliant for condensation, I remained healthy through winter and then got the glass replaced. Excellent on mirrors and windows. I would say be careful on the angle you clean, it prefers up and down not so much 45 dog or 90 dog cleaning like you would with a squeegee tool. Also clean between the rubber every few strokes because grit will scratch the glass. Had one since they first came out and it cuts cleaning time by more than half once you get the knack.
On its way :)

Looks a decent Vacuum for the cash, it has a 10m cord, which is a few meters longer than the one I have. It weighs 8.1KG, which isn't too bad (depending what you're coming from). Comes with the Turbo

Had Miele pet one from JL and it lasted less than 18 months and a new motor was almost the price of the vacuum its self. Wouldn't touch one again based on my personal experience.
Did you take it back to John Lewis? They do two year guarantee on electricals, have done since time immemorial. EDIT: Whoops, just seen the post above saying the same thing.
On the JL thing, leaving the 20% voucher out of the equation isn't it worth getting JL to price match Tesco and getting the two year guarantee?
It was a good few years ago now and I did not know about a 2 year cover at the time.
I bought a Dualit kettle from there about 18 months ago, it went wrong recently, my wife took it back, she said the customer service was fantastic, some places make you go through a rigmarole to return things, not them, I think it's worth paying their slight premium at times.

My parents just had a brand new TV from JL after a 2.5 year old Toshiba went pop. Was very good service all round.

All items at John Lewis have JL 2-year guarantee. Miele, bought from anywhere, have 2-year guarantee as long as you fill in their form.
So how do i order this with 75.99? :(

.... Absolutely the best hoover brand out there....

I agree, but oh the irony!

Why not try tracking the price?
has the price gone back up?
ordered one ... should do for lifting up my fog hairs on wooden floor
We got the Vax Dynamo Power 21.6v from the Vax Outlet for around £65.

To be honest I want expecting much from what I thought was a glorified dust buster. ... I was wrong!

It's light compared to our Dyson DC07 with the weight at the Base of the cleaner (not top heavy like the new models). The panel beater actually does a good job and easily picks up pet hair and dust with ease.

On one charge I have given a quick vacuum in 7 rooms and 2 landings before it was completely full and stopped working (safety feature). After 25 mins it still had loads of charge left.

The panel beater has an easy open clip which allows you to remove the brush bar, remove hairs/tags which get caught up. Easy to clean too.

We hardly use our Dyson now as this does so well. So if this model is anything like the one we have then it's a good price.

ps. the fittings are OK for stairs/the car but are certainly not great. Out with the Dyson for those.

Owner for 6 weeks now.
I have the next model up, and its good for what its made for, ie quick spin around to clean up after kids/dog/TV pizza night etc. Definitely not for main vacuum. Easily does 20minutes around the house to pick up all the crumbs and other bits kids seem to spread around.

ordered wednesday, arrived thursday by parcelforce but stupidly the toolkit is coming seperately via DHL fri/sat.... efficient

this dc59 however... damn, the suction on this thing is pretty mad for a handheld, we're talking high class London escort levels of suction not heroin riddled bucket mouth geordie hooker level
Also. I gave you heat but putting "first post, please go easy on me" made me want to vote cold. You'll probably feel some chills just for adding that in despite it being a worthy deal.
Good find. The kit ends up being an essential as well. Always good to get it thrown into the deal

It's ok, not the best though, having only used for the kitchen vinyl flooring.
6/10 because the dirt compartment is quite small & it only comes with one pad too which is pretty crap when it needs to be washed & dried.
Brought for £9.99 last year on the vax factory sale listed on posted on hukd.
Also brought the wired version at same time for a gift which is a lot better to be honest.
But was very weak so probs needed more charge, not too sure if I want to keep it
Mine took 6 hours for 15mins of use
Bought one last week and had to return as it wouldn't charge at all, despite being left to charge overnight. Just out of interest OP, how long did your's take to charge up? For just 9 minutes use, I would expect it should just be a few hours.

Wait for Brexit to be completed, when Numatic can put back the 1300W motor for proper suction :)
1300W is power consumption, not suction. It's perfectly possible to make cleaners with much more efficient motors, airways, heads, that use half the power and yet perform every bit as well. Manufacturers just choose to be idle and do things the cheap, easy way.

Looking for one of these at the weekend, bought it somewhere else today as needed it as soon as possible. Can I just say the suction on it is great, my old one broke on Friday night after 13 years, it had an 1100 watt motor, this models suction is as good, if not better than my old one.

Well that comment in itself shows that you know absolutely zero about HEPA filtration. It's not a completely sealed unit, so very fine dirt can and does pass back out.
You suggested far more dirt passes through on the Henry than a Dyson - which even Dyson themselves don't claim.
Throwing insults about someone's intelligence does not make you correct.

Where did I make an insult about his intelligence? What makes me right is the facts. If you want a basic overview - check the EEC label rating for both units. This model of Henry comes out as a C grade (all Dysons are A grade).

The older numatics (amongst other brands) with the more powerful motors had such poor filtration that they couldn't even make the grade for E.
Cold, this is the post-EU feeble low power version....

620w of power, good luck lifting anything more than scraps from hardwood.
People vote hot without thinking.

My advice is hang back, once these get returned when buyers realise how poor the suction is, you'll get this half price on amazon warehouse in A1 condition next week
Too right it wouldn't last 5 minutes.

Average performance on carpet, every vacuuming session was a workout. Pretty good on hard floors though.
Not an adequate replacement for our old DC04 Dyson unfortunately.
I will last 4 times as long though. My first one lasted 10 years, and numerous trips to the building site, I lost count how many times it fell down the stairs till one time it never recovered from the stairs fall. During the same period of time a friend went through 3 Dyson vacs. We did a job once and used the customer's Dyson, ten minutes and the filter was shagged. It wasn't even much brick dust and rubble.
Good job I'm not using my Dyson on a building site or chucking it down stairs then... ;)

I didn't know cats and dogs did hoovering.
Asked my cat to Hoover and all it said was me how.
Is this a misprice or a glitch because I never saw it this cheap. I took too long waking up

Miele make additional revenue with the sale of bags of which many purchasers will keep to original Miele bags rather than compatibles plus their chinese factory makes most parts excluding the motor I think either for assembly there or in Europe. Older Miele models have more durable plastic and much more powerful motors. Bagged cleaners are generally cheaper than bagless. Where a company makes both bagged and bagless cleaners the bagged is normally lower in the price range. If for no other reason bagless means much less future income especially if the model has permanent washable filters.

So its cheaper than many other retailers but I'm sure Miele could be profitable at a lower price point than this considering the price of competing products. However its not about manufacturing costs its about perceived value in the customer's mind.
I tried at 8 am and it was too late

So long as you aren't rough with it its not too bad, its a but of a pain to clean, and if you keep your receipt you have a years guarantee, so after 11months just take it back and get a refund. I agree with the comment about the orange bit I snapped one but just got a replacement down at the local bm. Also be careful not to drop it down too hard / let it drop on the floor.
good man's ain't a company it's a brand
good man's ain't a company it's a brand
Surprised this company is still around.
This is a good price for this but the build quality is rubbish. And not even fit for light use. The orange bit that joins the tube to the clear dust bin is so weak that it can't support the tubes own weight and will snap off.

Seriously though, good vacuum and if the wheels do fall off you can get a new one for p&p costs (£4). Why they don't do the wheels as a service item is beyond me. With a bit of mad skill and ingenuity the wheels can be fixed so you've got a spare base unit.

good price for this

Keeping any home or commercial premises clean and dust-free is easy with the variety of different vacuum cleaners and cleaning products on the market, even if pets share your home. Popular vacuum cleaners can be uprights or cylinder machines. Different specifications and power levels make efficient dust removal a possibility in any area and on flooring of all kinds. If cleaning is really not your thing, you can even opt for a robot vacuum cleaner to whizz around your home while you're out at work.

Vacuum cleaners buyers guide

How Long Have Vacuum Cleaners Been Around?

Motor-driven vacuum cleaners for cleaning carpets were invented very early in the 20th century, before this manual vacuum cleaners using bellows to provide hand-pumped power to clean or manual carpet sweepers were used. The first vacuum cleaner was powered by an internal combustion engine and pulled by a horse. The cleaner had the same essential design as modern vacuum cleaners and a number of suction tubes with nozzles from this first commercial vacuum cleaner were relayed from the machine in the street and into homes needing cleaning. Electric vacuum cleaners in the same massive commercial format were the next development and the smaller, more portable, vacuum cleaners we would recognise today were soon being marketed to householders. Popular European vacuum cleaning manufacturers included Goblin, Electrolux and Hoover. Upright cleaners with disposable filter bags were the main developments from the mid-1920s. After the end of World War II the use of vacuum cleaners became more widespread in the UK, with middle class households, in particular due to the fact most of these properties had carpeted floors.

UprightVacuum cleaner technology remained fairly static until the later part of the 20th century, when rechargeable handheld vacuum cleaners, filterless and cyclonic vacuums and computerised systems came to the fore. The first robotic vacuum cleaner was demonstrated in 2001. Other more recent developments include a hovering vacuum cleaner, as well as different types of air recycling methods that have been tested out.

Different Types of Vacuum Cleaner on the Market

There are a variety of different vacuum cleaners on the market, including upright models, cylinder vacuum cleaners, handhelds, stick vacuum cleaners and robotic machines. Some models use bags, while others take advantage of bagless technologies.

What's Best Cylinder or Upright Vacuum Cleaners?

Choosing whether to opt for a cylinder or upright style of vacuum cleaner is really a matter of personal preference. You may find cylinders are easier to move around the home and lighter than uprights, however, the cleaning powers of the brushes on upright models can give better results and help remove ingrained dirt from carpets. It's easier to use cylinder cleaners on stairs and hard or tiled floors as the long nozzles allow for cleaning bigger areas at one time. Cylinder cleaners are also better at cleaning right up to skirtings and into corners of rooms. Most cylinder cleaners feature extra long power cords which can be rewound into the body of the cleaner after use.

Upright cleaners can be better for cleaning larger areas of carpet, especially in expansive living areas or commercial premises. Another benefit of upright vacuum cleaners is they take up less storage space, this can be an important factor to consider if you live in a smaller property or apartment. The drawback to most uprights is that power cord length tends to be limited, so you may need to keep swapping electric sockets while cleaning. Eco-conscious consumers will find that cylinder cleaners need to have larger motors than uprights, so they tend to be far less energy-efficient.

Bags or Bagless Vacuum Cleaners? What is the Real Difference

Bagless vacuum cleaners were pioneered by Dyson in the 1980s. These cleaners feature a transparent waste bin making it easy to tell when the bin is full and needs to be emptied. The filters on bagless units are the major additional purchases, however, the filter won't need replacing very often. Although bagless vacuum cleaners are more expensive to buy, you won't need to purchase bags at any time so they will work out considerably cheaper to run over the long term. Some of the bagless cleaners on the market also provide anti-bacterial protections incorporated into the machines, which will reduce risks to allergy-sufferers facing problems with household dust mites or cat allergens.

Vacuum cleaners utilising bags do tend to hold more dust, but it's impossible to check how full these bags actually are without taking them out of the cleaner. Most bags will release some dust back into the air during the disposal process. It is possible to buy bags more suited for households with allergy-prone residents; these bags are self-sealing, so there are no added dust risks contained within the hoover bags during the disposal procedure.

Filtration Tips

Allergy sufferers will also find vacuum cleaners with better filtration allow less dust to escape from vacuum cleaners while they are in use. There are a large variety of filters for vacuum cleaners; these include charcoal filters which are great for neutralising pet odours, HEPA and S-Class filters to reduce risks to people with allergies, and lifetime filters which will last for the complete life duration of the vacuum cleaner.

HEPA filters are the gold standard filters for allergen removal, disposing of allergens such as dust, smoke and mould from the air. High-efficiency Particulate Arrestance (HEPA) air filters are used in medical facilities, cars and aircraft, as well as vacuum cleaners and need to meet certain efficiency standards. These filters have to remove 99.97% of all such allergens, in order to receive the HEPA rating. They are an ideal option for households with an occupant suffering from asthma or allergies.

Motors and Power

The higher-wattage vacuum cleaners provide greater cleaning power and it's generally more important for cylinder cleaners to have higher wattages as dust and debris has to travel further up the nozzle tubes into the dust collecting waste cylinder. In the UK, all vacuum cleaners have to be labelled with a variety of ratings to indicate performance levels. Ratings range from A to G, with energy-efficiency performance levels being the best, A-rated models, while G-rated models are classed as giving poorest efficiency levels. Some of the other important ratings include effective dust removal, effectiveness on hard floors and dust pick-up rates from carpets. The noise ratings in decibels also need to be labelled within the product specifications.

What's the Big Deal With Cordless Vacuum Cleaners?

Several vacuum cleaners in the top ten bestsellers listing are now cordless. These stick vacuums are much, much easier to use, lift and store. Some of the top-end models do have great suction power, although when it comes to deep cleaning of carpets, a cordless vacuum will not perform anywhere nearly as well as a corded cleaner. In general, you can expect stick vacuum cleaners to perform as well as corded models on most hard floors. Batteries on some cordless vacuums only last about 15 minutes, so these products really cannot be used in bigger properties or for major cleaning jobs. You should expect to get no more than about 40 minutes use out of the top cordless vacuum cleaners. The stick vacuums need to be charged at the docking station when the battery is flat.

One of the major benefits of cordless vacuum cleaners is they can be used anywhere, at any time. As long as the product's battery has enough charge the cordless can be used to clean in areas where there may not be any electrical sockets or where sockets are difficult to access. Cleaning cars, caravans and camper vans is easy with a fully charged cordless vacuum cleaner.

About Stick Vacuums

Stick VacuumsStick vacuum cleaners are a good choice for smaller homes and can be used on carpeted or hard floors. These vacuums are a versatile option for modern consumers as they can generally be used as handhelds for cleaning cars and caravans or will easily whizz up the stairs for cleaning as well. Stick vacuum cleaners generally feature rechargeable batteries, which can be charged up when the product is not in use, although there are some corded models on the market. Getting used to a rechargeable vacuum cleaner can take a while, because it's important that the battery has enough power every time you need to vacuum your home. Although these vacuums aren’t marketed as powerful cleaners, some of the best stick vacuums have more power than inexpensive cylinders. In the main, you should not use a stick vacuum cleaner for heavier cleaning jobs, as they're not really designed for heavy duty use.

Stick vacuum cleaners are extremely lightweight, therefore they’re an ideal choice for seniors who may be struggling with continued use of cylinder or upright vacuum cleaners. They look a little like long broomsticks, with a head that is no more than about 10 inches in width and will usually swivel through up to 180 degrees. The useful swivel head makes it easy to clean backwards and forwards. If you live in an apartment or smaller home, these vacuum cleaners are easily stored - very often the handle folds down to make the cleaner even more compact during storage.

Most sticks have a detachable bin for the collection of dust and debris and they tend to be bagless. Some sticks feature HEPA filtration for allergen removal (this will be noted in the vacuum cleaner specifications). Accessories for sticks are limited, as they are aimed at a target market with limited living or storage space. Some of the popular manufacturers of stick vacuum cleaners are Dyson, Bosch, Dirt Devil and Bissell.

Convertible Vacuum Cleaners

Some convertible vacuum cleaners are on the market. It's possible to buy uprights that can be converted into stick vacuums or cylinders. Some cylinder vacuum cleaners can also be used as handhelds, making it far easier to clean stairs or use the cleaner as a portable for outside jobs.

Handheld vacuum cleaners are great for clearing up crumbs or powders and small messes. They can be either battery-powered or corded, although battery powered handhelds are a good alternative cleaner for using both outside and in the home.

Robotic Vacuum Cleaners

Robotic vacuum cleaners are on sale but may be an expensive cleaning option for most homeowners. These tiny cleaners can be left on all day and will return to the base station at regular intervals for recharging. The robotic cleaner will scan and map the entire floor area and ensure every available part of the carpet is cleaned. Inaccessible areas of carpet where pets may be sleeping will be automatically cleaned once the animal moves location.

Robot vacuum cleaners have a circular, disc shape and programmable timers so you can set the cleaner to vacuum floors while you are out. If cleaning is just not your thing, then a robotic vacuum cleaner could give the cleaning assistance needed around the home. The cleaners have inbuilt sensors so they don't get damaged by walls or furnishings and their internal memories mean rooms will be fully vacuumed, as already stated. The small size of these little vacuum cleaners makes them ideal for cleaning under furniture, however, the main drawback is that available power levels makes them less efficient at cleaning than traditional vacuums which feature greater suction power. Prices for robotic cleaners are dropping now, as they become more commonly available, but it's unlikely you'll want to rely on these types of cleaner alone for your total vacuum cleaning requirements.

Vacuum Cleaning to Remove Household Pests

Regular vacuum cleaning can help keep homes free of household pests such as bedbugs, spiders, fleas and dustmites. Although cleaning won't remove all eggs, it can help you retain control of the situation. For bedbug infestations, it's best to use a crevice tool at the highest power levels and not press too hard on the surface of the bed. Once vacuuming is complete, the dust bag needs to be cleaned, as bedbugs will not be eliminated by the cleaning process. Spiderwebs can be easily sucked into a vacuum cleaner.

Vacuuming mattresses and bedding will also maintain control over dustmites and fleas, if your pets are allowed in all rooms of the home. Regular vacuum cleaning and effective flea control measures will reduce or eliminate problems with fleas with sustained use. Pests such as cockroaches or silverfish can also be cleaned up with a vacuum cleaner. It is important to empty dust bags just as soon as pest control is over, otherwise you may just be moving the problem to another area of the home.

Supplies for Vacuum Cleaners

One of the main considerations when buying a cleaner with a bag is just how much filters and bags will cost and where they can be purchased. Some specialist cleaners may require manufacturer supplies, however, it's usually the case that cheaper bags and filters can be purchased in homeware stores just as long as they are compatible with the make and model of machine owned.

Popular Makes of Vacuum Cleaner

Some of the popular makes in the UK include Hoover, Henry, Dyson and Kenmore. Retailers selling vacuum cleaners include Currys, Argos, Tesco, Asda and department stores such as John Lewis. Buying a Vacuum Cleaner

Before buying any vacuum cleaner, it's a good idea to check physical properties in a few shops. Some retailers will allow you to turn vacuum cleaners on so you can trial out noise levels and suction power. You will also discover whether or not different models are easy to move around and adjust. Picking up different vacuum cleaners allows you to judge whether they will be suited as well; if you can’t easily carry a cleaner, then it won't be much use for regular cleaning in your home. Some cleaners weigh as much as 25lb, so carrying them up and down stairs on a regular basis can be impossible for some consumers.

Check out whether the vacuum cleaner you prefer can reach under furnishings by laying the nozzle flat on the floor. Vacuuming when flat is an impossibility for some makes of cleaner. Finally, try adding different nozzles and accessories to ensure the cleaner is easy to use, check that bags are easy to remove and replace and locate the filter unit to make sure you will be able to replace filters as and when needed.

Although you won't be able to check how good your vacuum cleaner of choice actually is at removing dust and debris, these initial tests in the shop will give you a better idea about the product.
