Ordered. Thank you.
Thank you and ordered :) can't wait to try it
Thanks op, just moved house so this is perfect
Thanks op, I nearly got the basic v6 for £200 today.
Just purchased as I've been waiting for a V8 Animal or Total and figured this would do the job with half the run-time for a third of the cost.

If you want to spend 100% more (£280.49) you can get the V8 Animal refurbished ->http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dyson-V8-Animal-Cordless-Vacuum-Cleaner-Refurbished-1-Year-Guarantee-/132083607815?hash=item1ec0cbe907

Got DC14 animal on it last legs and about to be put down, how does this compare?
Longy
Bought one of these a while back. Appeared to be new and even came with a five year warranty.
The stand mechanism although clever, seems a bit fragile to me so I am not sure how long it will last but hopefully it will be covered by the warranty.
Also the dust collection bin is pretty small compared to our old Dyson.

Thx for the honest feedback. Wont jump into the deal right away and do some more research.

Just picked one up, heat added.
good deal, I got a refurbished dc40 last year, as good as new. The only thing I don't like is that I find using the flexi nozzle heavy and unyeilding

These handheld dysons are crap. They fill up in literally a minute of vacuuming, the battery lasts for like 10 minutes and they get blocked extremely easy if your vacuuming anything other than minute dust particles. Also when you empty them in the bin the dust flies everywhere and then big clumps of dust and other articles are stuck in the vacuum and you end up having to shove a fork in to prize the rubbish out.
Good power but apart from that steer clear.
These handheld Dysons are fantastic
Unless you're vacuuming up the remains of a Party Election 2017 Manifesto Launch (Any Party) - this Dyson cleaner reaches in to corners others can't reach
The battery lasts for 40 minutes after a 2 hour charge and when you empty the content into a bin - the content stays in the bin!

And every cleaner requires an occasional clean

In fairness to the negative posts I think this model does indeed only last 10 minutes (I have it) but I disagree entirely with the negativity and think it is great for the price. Has serious power while it lasts and as long as you remember to charge it is really useful for quick jobs here and there. It's in no sense a replacement for a main vacuum, but it has its place especially at this price. Previously had a Black and Decker which was terrible in comparison. Heat.

I have one and concur. Having owned one for a while, I have to say I don't really see the point of them. They're too awkward (in addition to the battery and capacity mentioned) to do anything more than a quick pick-up, and you don't need a £90 vacuum when you've dropped some crisp crumbs. They do have excellent power for a handheld but there aren't really many times when you need that much power from a handheld, even for cleaning the car it just seems over-specced.

And how are you supposed to clean the stairs?
Never understood why people buy these.

I have the earlier model of this which I inherited. You can clean the stairs with them quite easily. As Hercule would say, you just need to use a few grey cells. I use it the same way on the stairs as I do with the shark. Edge cleaning means it still does quite a decent job but is easier with a cordless because they are half the weight. Despite the cost the Gtech does a good job and is ideal for anyone who is perhaps disabled or finds a corded vacuum hard work.

Good lightweight hoover. make hoovering enjoyable. good price too.
just to let you know these are made by Bissell and in certain European countries and down under they are for sale at £120(can buy them in U.K. but beware the 2 year guarantee will not be honoured by Bissell) so you can see the mark up so suggest for the sake of a cord try vax or dyson

If the MK 2 multi is anything like the MK 1 i would not waste your money the MK 1 has very little suck to it and struggles to pick anything up

And that's why I said my experience is not true of everyone, we have purchased from them before with no bother, any advice is better than no advice at all, check out trustpilot, I think there rating is 0.8 out of 10 out of over 300 reviews.
I got a cordless Morphy Richards vacuum for about £70 a year ago on Amazon, and it's pretty decent for what I need. I would love an AirRam, but I just can't justify spending 4 times the amount. Decent price for those that want one and can afford it though.

This seems like a good price or at least the cheapest I have seen? Im torn between this and the Cordless Dyson v8 Animal as I need to have a HEPA / Captures allergens as my GF is super allergic to dust and dust mites as I have to hoover and dust every day to keep it low.

I liked the dyson as I can reach up in higher places but the hand held unit seems ideal. Is this any good?

Any brand less than these 2 I wouldnt touch with a barge pole especially Vax as I have had nothing but nightmares with them.

Well I will differ with some of the views above, I got this yesterday - cuts and collects really well. I have had flymo's for years and no major problems - mine generally last 6 years. I would say this is much better than the 330VVX I had previously - quieter, lighter and gives a better cut. I brought with nectar points so only £29.99 !

I wouldnt bother. I got this from Amazon and am sending it back. It chucks grass EVERYWHERE and cuts horribly
Funny because I got the same one and it's fine. Collects the grass nicely. Maybe depends what setting you use it on or something

Potentially. I did check their site and they had an FAQ as to why it was like that but none of it really helped. Ended up with a Ryobi from Homebase. Everywhere else had it at £160+ but they had it at £99

Thank you OP. Have been looking for a good deal all week.
For £50 you can't go wrong.
Update this is now available on the Argos website also.
http://www.camelcamelcamel.fr/uk/charts/B01BHUSDZK

Same price on Argos? I need to get more ebay feedback for the moment
OOS
False economy. I've had a couple of Flymo's and the parts fail at one point or another. Go for a better brand like Bosch which will last longer and do a better job.

Why anyone would pay 3 times more for there hoover too have no wire, less power and a battery life is beyond me
Just waiting for the Henry Cordless to drop in price
This deal does not appear to be national (the item is being sold at £149 here - the helpful gentleman at the Great Yarmouth store checked the system and informed me that the item stopped being stocked on 19th May.

Hope this helps.
I can confirm that Tesco Extra in Gallions Reach does not have this offer.

I have got one and it is brilliant. picks up pet hairs and other bits of dirt on the floor. I was very impressed as to how good it is. we use it on a short rugged carpet.

this is only going to be good for a pet to ride round on, cold and crap
I had a Deebot robot vacuum from Amazon. It was total crap. Only good for everyday cleaning on wooden floors. Carpet and rugs were crap. I sent it back. Only good as an everyday cleaner but a good, powerful Hoover is still required weekly.
can't do corners or stairs so still have to use the Dyson......cold.

Had mine ages, never missed a beat
Mine broke on its 3rd use.

Check the amazon reviews, these break very frequently. Avoid!
the better premium model with the smaller very useful blade is been on sale for £12 @ Tesco recently
these are terrible. had 2 break down on me within 3 months of purchase.
I bought one of these along with a K4 Home premium power washer. The ones i received were ex-demo and clearly showed signs of use. They appeared to have been simply reboxed and sent out to me, could not see that they had been "refurbished" in any way and no attempt had been made to clean them up as they were still somewhat dirty.

In hindsight I would have been better to pay a little more and buy new with full warranties than skimp and get the used ones. There are some good deals on new if you look around a bit.

YMMV

I think this is the newer version of the one we bought last year for about £12. The bags were £6 lol. It's fine as a second vacuum or if you have a small area to clean but doesn't have a lot of power. We keep ours on the landing so I don't have to bother dragging our ancient Miele upstairs.

This is not cold! I'll stick to my Shark though.
If you want something compact, Shark do loads of compact stick vacuums with handheld sections that are way more powerful than this and much cheaper. Yes they have a cord, but it means they're brilliant at cleaning and there are no run time restrictions. I'm sure they'll branch out into cordless eventually, but cordless vacuums just can't compete with corded for power.

I beg to differ. I do have a Powered Liftaway which is the best vac I've ever had for carpet, not so great on tiles. And you're right in that the cord is long and it's great for the stairs, furniture and the car. However I used to work for the company that does the floor washers and cleaning chemicals for ASDA and a couple of the sales reps there swore by their cordless Dyson stick vacuum which they'd do the whole house with. Hopefully one day we'll get some great cordless vacs as mentioned, especially with innovations like powerful li-ion batteries that hold plenty of charge.

Cracking beard trimmer, bar the fact that it isn't able to get to your moosh right under your nose. The attachments sort that out though.
huh?
Which bit was confusing?
the fact that it isn't able to get to your moosh right under your nose. The attachments sort that out though.
that. obviously I understood what the "cracking beard trimmer" meant.
It doesn't trim the moustache hair directly under your nose as it 'hits' against your nose and the blades don't go high enough. Leaves you with a few stragglers that can be trimmed with the attachment quite easily.
plagued
I thought it was just a gimmick, but it really is quite effective, best timer I've had to date. the noise comment is because the top is large and flat so you can't go any shorter than about 5mm right under your nose with the standard wide trimmer, unless you have a detachable noise.

noise?

Had a similar model to this, its good but and does the job but it can get heavy in your hands if you are trying to do the whole house (youngish man too!) maybe a break in-between depending on rooms and floors.

A cordless vac is much more quicker and easier to get around the house but again not as powerful (not tried the dysons yet), next purchase will be a Dyson V8 though, its cordless, lighter and hopefully good.
And it's £ 99 now :(

Thanks OP I bought a reusable cloth with zip type bag from ebay for a Fiver and it works very well. as an added precaustion I place a split.open henry paper bag over the top of it and after 3 YEARS the paper bag has almost No dust on it at all. A relative has been using the same type of bag for over 6 years, Yes its a bit messy emptying bag but does save money !!
I tried emptying a fabric Henry bag to save money and because I vacuumed up a retaining clip I needed. I ended up with a face full and lungs full of dust!

You say you tried to empty one, ?? they are designed to be emptied, just a matter of common sense as to how you go about it LOL My daughter empties hers every month and has no probs, she bought hers 6 Years ago and with 2 children her henry gets a lot of use.

Yes the shark offers a good workout and I have learnt to hoover using two hands. No good for the old and weak but nothing leaves suction lines on your carpet like a shark. Also good enough to do the car which some cyclonic cleaners seem to lose their suction when using the hose.

A very good product for what I paid for the 480 rocket which was £69.99 from dunelm. How much are dysons these days and didn't he move his factory to Malaysia to save us money. Hmm I know what I will buy next and it won't be a DYSON. Just for the record my wife has a week arm and she can't push many Hoovers around but we do have a Gtech cordless, the expensive one. It's very good for a cordless.
Great machine, got this to replace my Dyson that I was fed up with but as above it does have insane suction and does make it difficult to move around especially on longer carpets! Normal length wool carpets are fine :)

Found link direct with Hughes although you can purchase via Tesco
http://www.m.hughes.co.uk/household-appliances/vacuum-cleaners/shk-nv350ukr/product

Best to use that instead of Tesco if you want it delivered -- free carriage from Hughes, but minimum £3 from Tesco.
We have a NV480UKT (£70 if I recall correctly) and it's great.

Tough to push around due to the insane suction, so wouldn't recommend for the elderly, but for those wanting truly clean carpets, perfect.

Don't know how the nv350 compares though.

My brother got me one for £44.50 (instore reduced yellow sticker so not national).

£89 is the price across all Tescos as the op stated but you can get luckier than a golden egg laying goose if they have put a yellow reduced sticker over the barcode but i have the £44.50 dyson.

My brother said as soon as they put them out they disappeared. Said it got a bit mad so they were told to form a queue over these and other cheap electrical stuff like they do for the end of day out of date reduced to clear fruit / veg/ dairy. Wasnt there so didnt witness it

Don't have any in Corby Tesco, but they do have a DC41 MK2 for £199 from £489 seems pretty good only one left though!

I'd try and wait alittle while. However it is a good price though I got my yellow label for £44.50 last week. They may get slashed also in the coming week. Eyes peeled

No, it blows. The vacuum cleaners suck.

I saw a dyson fan in a shop window today for £500... for a fan.. let that sink in. This society is way too materialistic. It reminds me of Tyler at the start of fight club

The social acceptability of a £250 desk fan does wonders for making me think austerity has been greatly exaggerated.
Or that mental health issues have been greatly underestimated.
"Social acceptability"? What are people supposed to do? Organise protests against £250 desk fans? Some people have mental health issues all right.

Who said anything about protests? Acceptance of it on a main stream "bargain" website is proof enough that people have gone doolally.

Bought one along with a pack of spare bags in medium and large.
Took a few attempts to get the first end sealed. Then several attempts to get the air sucked out and sealed. It looked like the sealer had done a really good job.... that is until the following morning when I looked at the bag and air had returned to the inside.
Now having your return the whole lot.
Very disappointed. Had high hopes but it didn't deliver.

I found on mine (older version) that I needed to push down the middle to make a good seal. Also I usually sealed it twice, as I rarely got the first seal to fully work. Usually due to a crease or a bit of food in the way admittedly.

i've had a v6 for a couple of weeks and when changing attachments i could press the button down and it would click and stay down which made it easier to change attachments. now when i press the button down it doesn't click and i almost need three hands - one to hold the unit, one to hold the button and one to remove the attachment.

what are other's experiences?
Just received my Dyson Big Ball Animal and very happy with it after trying it out once. I'm used to using sub £100 vacuum cleaners and this just seems to suck much better. Initially I was slightly disheartened to see that mine didn't look very nice as I could see light signs of use and some dust but using it once was enough to shut away those thoughts.

Even more happy after seeing that it is meant to retail for £370?!

As others have mentioned, it comes with a 2 year warranty so I'm happy with that too.

My only main gripe is that it comes with so many accessories and the leaflet does not explain what they're for.
I purchased a DC40 upright using this offer for £128 down from £159.99. It arrived yesterday.

What actually arrived was a brand new looking DC40 Animal which is a better (more expensive) model than the one I had ordered, and it came with several extra tools and a tool bag, in the box. This model is presently £235 on Amazon, down from an RRP of £369.99 - without the extra tools. I am absolutely delighted with this purchase.

Is the DC34 any good?

It sucks. Mine just sits there collecting dust.

New ones come with a 2 year warranty, so if the battery did die Dyson would've just replaced it FOC.
Unfortunately they class batteries as consumables, so they wouldn't.
Really??
Dyson WILLcover the battery in the warranty, proof below, they replaced mine under warranty as it was on it's way out.
Lucky you - it's not what their guarantee terms say: "Normal wear and tear, including parts that might wear out over time (e.g. fuse, belt, brush bar, batteries, filters etc.)."

I've had other handhelds this is the only one I've had that does the job others were cheaper and had poor suction compared to this model. Easily recommended! :D

Cheers, this is exactly what I need it for and seems to corroborate what other reviewers are saying :)

Struggling to see the benefit of an "EU friendly" 600W motor, i.e its just not going to be as powerful is it ?
So I'll give this a miss, but it is cheap

Still got a VAX G.2 Cylinder 1800W machine.
was only £50 way back when ( 15 years ago maybe?). Its even been used extensively when wife had house rabbits picking up straw which is beyond the spec of " a dust machine" though I did mod the air filter with a sock around it for double filtering to make regular cleaning of the filter a doddle.

Even has adjustable motor power so you can do quiet or full power
Trying to entertain the idea of changing but when it aint broken don't fix it ?

Looks like it's all Euronics dealers :)

Keeping any home or commercial premises clean and dust-free is easy with the variety of different vacuum cleaners and cleaning products on the market, even if pets share your home. Popular vacuum cleaners can be uprights or cylinder machines. Different specifications and power levels make efficient dust removal a possibility in any area and on flooring of all kinds. If cleaning is really not your thing, you can even opt for a robot vacuum cleaner to whizz around your home while you're out at work.

Vacuum cleaners buyers guide

How Long Have Vacuum Cleaners Been Around?

Motor-driven vacuum cleaners for cleaning carpets were invented very early in the 20th century, before this manual vacuum cleaners using bellows to provide hand-pumped power to clean or manual carpet sweepers were used. The first vacuum cleaner was powered by an internal combustion engine and pulled by a horse. The cleaner had the same essential design as modern vacuum cleaners and a number of suction tubes with nozzles from this first commercial vacuum cleaner were relayed from the machine in the street and into homes needing cleaning. Electric vacuum cleaners in the same massive commercial format were the next development and the smaller, more portable, vacuum cleaners we would recognise today were soon being marketed to householders. Popular European vacuum cleaning manufacturers included Goblin, Electrolux and Hoover. Upright cleaners with disposable filter bags were the main developments from the mid-1920s. After the end of World War II the use of vacuum cleaners became more widespread in the UK, with middle class households, in particular due to the fact most of these properties had carpeted floors.

UprightVacuum cleaner technology remained fairly static until the later part of the 20th century, when rechargeable handheld vacuum cleaners, filterless and cyclonic vacuums and computerised systems came to the fore. The first robotic vacuum cleaner was demonstrated in 2001. Other more recent developments include a hovering vacuum cleaner, as well as different types of air recycling methods that have been tested out.

Different Types of Vacuum Cleaner on the Market

There are a variety of different vacuum cleaners on the market, including upright models, cylinder vacuum cleaners, handhelds, stick vacuum cleaners and robotic machines. Some models use bags, while others take advantage of bagless technologies.

What's Best Cylinder or Upright Vacuum Cleaners?

Choosing whether to opt for a cylinder or upright style of vacuum cleaner is really a matter of personal preference. You may find cylinders are easier to move around the home and lighter than uprights, however, the cleaning powers of the brushes on upright models can give better results and help remove ingrained dirt from carpets. It's easier to use cylinder cleaners on stairs and hard or tiled floors as the long nozzles allow for cleaning bigger areas at one time. Cylinder cleaners are also better at cleaning right up to skirtings and into corners of rooms. Most cylinder cleaners feature extra long power cords which can be rewound into the body of the cleaner after use.

Upright cleaners can be better for cleaning larger areas of carpet, especially in expansive living areas or commercial premises. Another benefit of upright vacuum cleaners is they take up less storage space, this can be an important factor to consider if you live in a smaller property or apartment. The drawback to most uprights is that power cord length tends to be limited, so you may need to keep swapping electric sockets while cleaning. Eco-conscious consumers will find that cylinder cleaners need to have larger motors than uprights, so they tend to be far less energy-efficient.

Bags or Bagless Vacuum Cleaners? What is the Real Difference

Bagless vacuum cleaners were pioneered by Dyson in the 1980s. These cleaners feature a transparent waste bin making it easy to tell when the bin is full and needs to be emptied. The filters on bagless units are the major additional purchases, however, the filter won't need replacing very often. Although bagless vacuum cleaners are more expensive to buy, you won't need to purchase bags at any time so they will work out considerably cheaper to run over the long term. Some of the bagless cleaners on the market also provide anti-bacterial protections incorporated into the machines, which will reduce risks to allergy-sufferers facing problems with household dust mites or cat allergens.

Vacuum cleaners utilising bags do tend to hold more dust, but it's impossible to check how full these bags actually are without taking them out of the cleaner. Most bags will release some dust back into the air during the disposal process. It is possible to buy bags more suited for households with allergy-prone residents; these bags are self-sealing, so there are no added dust risks contained within the hoover bags during the disposal procedure.

Filtration Tips

Allergy sufferers will also find vacuum cleaners with better filtration allow less dust to escape from vacuum cleaners while they are in use. There are a large variety of filters for vacuum cleaners; these include charcoal filters which are great for neutralising pet odours, HEPA and S-Class filters to reduce risks to people with allergies, and lifetime filters which will last for the complete life duration of the vacuum cleaner.

HEPA filters are the gold standard filters for allergen removal, disposing of allergens such as dust, smoke and mould from the air. High-efficiency Particulate Arrestance (HEPA) air filters are used in medical facilities, cars and aircraft, as well as vacuum cleaners and need to meet certain efficiency standards. These filters have to remove 99.97% of all such allergens, in order to receive the HEPA rating. They are an ideal option for households with an occupant suffering from asthma or allergies.

Motors and Power

The higher-wattage vacuum cleaners provide greater cleaning power and it's generally more important for cylinder cleaners to have higher wattages as dust and debris has to travel further up the nozzle tubes into the dust collecting waste cylinder. In the UK, all vacuum cleaners have to be labelled with a variety of ratings to indicate performance levels. Ratings range from A to G, with energy-efficiency performance levels being the best, A-rated models, while G-rated models are classed as giving poorest efficiency levels. Some of the other important ratings include effective dust removal, effectiveness on hard floors and dust pick-up rates from carpets. The noise ratings in decibels also need to be labelled within the product specifications.

What's the Big Deal With Cordless Vacuum Cleaners?

Several vacuum cleaners in the top ten bestsellers listing are now cordless. These stick vacuums are much, much easier to use, lift and store. Some of the top-end models do have great suction power, although when it comes to deep cleaning of carpets, a cordless vacuum will not perform anywhere nearly as well as a corded cleaner. In general, you can expect stick vacuum cleaners to perform as well as corded models on most hard floors. Batteries on some cordless vacuums only last about 15 minutes, so these products really cannot be used in bigger properties or for major cleaning jobs. You should expect to get no more than about 40 minutes use out of the top cordless vacuum cleaners. The stick vacuums need to be charged at the docking station when the battery is flat.

One of the major benefits of cordless vacuum cleaners is they can be used anywhere, at any time. As long as the product's battery has enough charge the cordless can be used to clean in areas where there may not be any electrical sockets or where sockets are difficult to access. Cleaning cars, caravans and camper vans is easy with a fully charged cordless vacuum cleaner.

About Stick Vacuums

Stick VacuumsStick vacuum cleaners are a good choice for smaller homes and can be used on carpeted or hard floors. These vacuums are a versatile option for modern consumers as they can generally be used as handhelds for cleaning cars and caravans or will easily whizz up the stairs for cleaning as well. Stick vacuum cleaners generally feature rechargeable batteries, which can be charged up when the product is not in use, although there are some corded models on the market. Getting used to a rechargeable vacuum cleaner can take a while, because it's important that the battery has enough power every time you need to vacuum your home. Although these vacuums aren’t marketed as powerful cleaners, some of the best stick vacuums have more power than inexpensive cylinders. In the main, you should not use a stick vacuum cleaner for heavier cleaning jobs, as they're not really designed for heavy duty use.

Stick vacuum cleaners are extremely lightweight, therefore they’re an ideal choice for seniors who may be struggling with continued use of cylinder or upright vacuum cleaners. They look a little like long broomsticks, with a head that is no more than about 10 inches in width and will usually swivel through up to 180 degrees. The useful swivel head makes it easy to clean backwards and forwards. If you live in an apartment or smaller home, these vacuum cleaners are easily stored - very often the handle folds down to make the cleaner even more compact during storage.

Most sticks have a detachable bin for the collection of dust and debris and they tend to be bagless. Some sticks feature HEPA filtration for allergen removal (this will be noted in the vacuum cleaner specifications). Accessories for sticks are limited, as they are aimed at a target market with limited living or storage space. Some of the popular manufacturers of stick vacuum cleaners are Dyson, Bosch, Dirt Devil and Bissell.

Convertible Vacuum Cleaners

Some convertible vacuum cleaners are on the market. It's possible to buy uprights that can be converted into stick vacuums or cylinders. Some cylinder vacuum cleaners can also be used as handhelds, making it far easier to clean stairs or use the cleaner as a portable for outside jobs.

Handhelds

Handheld vacuum cleaners are great for clearing up crumbs or powders and small messes. They can be either battery-powered or corded, although battery powered handhelds are a good alternative cleaner for using both outside and in the home.

Available Accessories for Vacuum Cleaners

Furniture nozzle brushIt's typical for vacuum cleaners to be sold with some standard attachments or accessories, these include upholstery cleaning and dusting brushes and tools to reach into crevices or narrow, enclosures. Most sticks don't come with additional accessory purchases, but the larger uprights or cylinders may feature a variety of different accessories. Additional accessories that could prove useful include the turbo brushes supplied with some cylinder cleaners, as these will clean pet hairs better, or brushes for cleaning wood or tiled floors with greater effectiveness. Some vacuum cleaners have a number of tools and added accessories that can be purchased separately to make different types of cleaning an easier task around any home.

Some useful vacuum cleaner accessories include:

  • Upholstery nozzles with a velvet strip to clean dust or fluff from furnishings
  • Furniture brushes with soft bristles for cleaning fabrics or computer keyboards
  • Turbo tool kits can be great for cleaning pet hairs and mess

Other Types of Vacuum Cleaners on the Market

You can buy more powerful vacuum cleaners for cleaning homes with pets, particularly useful if shedding hairs is a problem. Wet and dry cleaners and steam cleaners work on similar principles to normal vacuum cleaners and give you the opportunity to deep clean carpets effectively.

Robotic Vacuum Cleaners

Robotic vacuum cleaners are on sale but may be an expensive cleaning option for most homeowners. These tiny cleaners can be left on all day and will return to the base station at regular intervals for recharging. The robotic cleaner will scan and map the entire floor area and ensure every available part of the carpet is cleaned. Inaccessible areas of carpet where pets may be sleeping will be automatically cleaned once the animal moves location.

Robot vacuum cleaners have a circular, disc shape and programmable timers so you can set the cleaner to vacuum floors while you are out. If cleaning is just not your thing, then a robotic vacuum cleaner could give the cleaning assistance needed around the home. The cleaners have inbuilt sensors so they don't get damaged by walls or furnishings and their internal memories mean rooms will be fully vacuumed, as already stated. The small size of these little vacuum cleaners makes them ideal for cleaning under furniture, however, the main drawback is that available power levels makes them less efficient at cleaning than traditional vacuums which feature greater suction power. Prices for robotic cleaners are dropping now, as they become more commonly available, but it's unlikely you'll want to rely on these types of cleaner alone for your total vacuum cleaning requirements.

Samsung, Miele, Neato and iRobot manufacture some of the available brands of robot vacuum cleaners.

Vacuum Cleaning to Remove Household Pests

Regular vacuum cleaning can help keep homes free of household pests such as bedbugs, spiders, fleas and dustmites. Although cleaning won't remove all eggs, it can help you retain control of the situation. For bedbug infestations, it's best to use a crevice tool at the highest power levels and not press too hard on the surface of the bed. Once vacuuming is complete, the dust bag needs to be cleaned, as bedbugs will not be eliminated by the cleaning process. Spiderwebs can be easily sucked into a vacuum cleaner.

Vacuuming mattresses and bedding will also maintain control over dustmites and fleas, if your pets are allowed in all rooms of the home. Regular vacuum cleaning and effective flea control measures will reduce or eliminate problems with fleas with sustained use. Pests such as cockroaches or silverfish can also be cleaned up with a vacuum cleaner. It is important to empty dust bags just as soon as pest control is over, otherwise you may just be moving the problem to another area of the home.

Supplies for Vacuum Cleaners

One of the main considerations when buying a cleaner with a bag is just how much filters and bags will cost and where they can be purchased. Some specialist cleaners may require manufacturer supplies, however, it's usually the case that cheaper bags and filters can be purchased in homeware stores just as long as they are compatible with the make and model of machine owned.

More Tips Before Buying a Vacuum Cleaner

Popular Makes of Vacuum Cleaner

Some of the popular makes in the UK include Hoover, Henry, Dyson and Kenmore. Retailers selling vacuum cleaners include Currys, Argos, Tesco, Asda and department stores such as John Lewis. It's possible to buy vacuum cleaners online from a variety of sources, including Amazon, Appliances Direct or Grattan Shopping Catalogue.

Buying a Vacuum Cleaner

Before buying any vacuum cleaner, it's a good idea to check physical properties in a few shops. Some retailers will allow you to turn vacuum cleaners on so you can trial out noise levels and suction power. You will also discover whether or not different models are easy to move around and adjust. Picking up different vacuum cleaners allows you to judge whether they will be suited as well; if you can’t easily carry a cleaner, then it won't be much use for regular cleaning in your home. Some cleaners weigh as much as 25lb, so carrying them up and down stairs on a regular basis can be impossible for some consumers.

Check out whether the vacuum cleaner you prefer can reach under furnishings by laying the nozzle flat on the floor. Vacuuming when flat is an impossibility for some makes of cleaner. Finally, try adding different nozzles and accessories to ensure the cleaner is easy to use, check that bags are easy to remove and replace and locate the filter unit to make sure you will be able to replace filters as and when needed.

Although you won't be able to check how good your vacuum cleaner of choice actually is at removing dust and debris, these initial tests in the shop will give you a better idea about the product.

According to consumer agency Which, the best time of year to buy home appliances like vacuum cleaners is between January and March, this is when retailers tend to offer biggest discounts and when new lines appear in shops and online outlets.
