Yup. It works if I'm going to London. If I want to go somewhere more fun then it's usually full price.

All options start and at end SWT stations. I assume they're routing through non SWT routes even when they exist and it's not giving me the option to choose them.

I want Exeter to Portsmouth Harbour which are both SWT routes but it seems to take GWR train part of the way even when it's part of the SWT network.

Could be that there are no SWT scheduled to run at the times your requesting.

You don't want to come to Poole.

I want to escape Poole that's for sure, hate this place Jul - Sept, way too many tourists.

I think it's only on SWT services. It also seems to work on peak when leaving London (but not entering London on peak times). It won't give you 1/3 off this promotional £16 price but if you're regularly travelling on SWT services then it's worth getting.

Thanks for this just googled it and it looks like it will be a mega saver for me! Only thought students got this! You should post it as a main post, it will go hot!

I just noticed the part of your journey from Salisbury to Portsmouth harbour is via a GWR train service. So won't be at the deal price. might be worth a call to the number in the deal description?

I think South West Trains only run to Portsmouth & Southsea from Southampton. You should try Exeter St Davids to Portsmouth & Southsea and see what comes up.

This may be a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway. I live in London and I want to go to Poole on Saturday (23 July). A return from London to Poole costs me £48. However, if I bought two of those offer day return tickets, it comes out at £32 for the whole journey – even though I'd technically be wasting one part of both journeys. My question is this: if I book those, am I obliged to travel at specific times? Or can I travel at any time because it's an off-peak day return?

I guess this is too late but you'd only need one of these £16 tickets.
Worth noting there are some exclusions (like next weekend)

I am assuming - if going to London - the deal only covers London Waterloo and not a travel card?
  21. deleted152651's avatar
It's not really ANYWHERE. For example, you cannot find this offer on their Waterloo - Southampton service. The cheapest return is £43.50

It is of course a bargain for expensive routes like Waterloo - Exeter, but to be honest the first train on this offer reaches Exeter St. Davids at 12:43 and you are left with just half a day to spend there if you want to avail the £16 offer to travel back the same day.

You can do Waterloo-Southampton. Just have to book at least the day before on a date that isn't excluded

We're off on holiday from Bristol Airport on the 15th August. My car is spluttering big time and is into the garage on Thursday. If the worst happens, and it's a really expensive fix, we will have to catch the train from Exeter instead. I have a free 2 month Family & Friends railcard which I think expires at the end of July. Just wondering, if I book and pay now for train tickets in advance (for the 15th August) using the railcard, will we still be able to use the paid for tickets if I do not renew the railcard at the end of July? Just wondering if you have to show your railcard on the train (after you have purchased tickets in advance)?

A Railcard has to be valid on the day you actually travel because the ticket inspector can ask to see it on the train. I haven't been asked very often but it could be expensive if you get caught!

You need the railcard to be valid on the day of travel.
You may also need to show it - I often used to get asked to show my young persons railcard when I had one.

I seem to remember seeing a discount code for railcards on here, so it may be worth looking and getting an annual family railcard.

    Enjoy your holiday!!

Not this wednesday.a lot of WAT-BRI trains are GWR changing at Paddington. As someone else said, look at the timetable on the swt trains site for direct trains, and then search for the best fare at those times.
