McDonald's Winning Sips (similar to McDonald's Monopoly) - starts 13th March 2024

What is Winning Sips?
Winning Sips is a game run by McDonald’s, introduced in March 2023. Customers can win cash prizes, food and merchandise when they buy an eligible medium or large soft drink at McDonald’s.

It works in a similar way to McDonald’s Monopoly, but their game pieces are available exclusively on drinks and not food items. McDonald’s runs their Monopoly promotion every year (usually around September time), but this is only the second time the Winning Sips competition has ever been run.

A key difference between the McDonald’s Monopoly-style game and Winning Sips is that the new game doesn’t involve collecting Monopoly game pieces. You still get peel-off stickers on each eligible item, but these won’t be Monopoly property pieces like Bond Street and Old Kent Road.

This means that the usual McDonald’s Monopoly prizes, like a £2K holiday with TUI or an experience day with BuyAGift, won’t be available to win, unfortunately. But don’t fret…the Winning Sips peel-off stickers represent Instant Win prizes, app-based prizes and prize draw entries instead.

These include free food menu items like chicken nuggets, cheeseburgers and even the vegan McPlant burger. Free sweet treats like donuts and apple pies are also available to win, as well as milkshakes and hot drinks.

All of these prizes and more are up for grabs and all you need to do is buy yourself a nice Maccies drink. It really is that easy.

Which items can I get game pieces on?
You can get peel-off game pieces on any of the following medium (0.4L) or large (0.5L) drinks:
  • Coca-Cola Zero Sugar
  • Diet Coke
  • Sprite Zero
  • Fanta Orange
  • Coca-Cola Classic
  • Oasis
  • Chocolate Milkshake
  • Strawberry Milkshake
  • Banana Milkshake
  • Vanilla Milkshake
  • IRN-BRU (Scotland only)

Each drink will have one peel-off sticker which equates to one competition entry. This is the same, regardless of whether the cup is medium or large, as you don't get extra stickers for bigger drinks.

What prizes are up for grabs? 2024 prizes revealed
Peel off the Winning Sips sticker from your McDonald’s drink to see whether you’ve won a prize. Your sticker might show an Instant Win prize or contain a code for you to enter in your app.

Instant Win game pieces
An Instant Win game piece does exactly what it says on the tin. You can immediately claim these prizes (unless they’re cash prizes) at your local McDonald’s or via the app.

Your 2024 Instant Win sticker will feature one of the following prizes on it:

If you win a food or drink voucher prize, you can claim it by taking it to the payment kiosk, service counter or drive-thru at your local McDonald’s, or by registering it on your McDonald’s app.

If you’re redeeming on the app, all you need to do is scan the piece or manually enter the 12-character code, then add the prize to your offers section.

If you win a cash prize, you’ll need to enter the website address printed on your game piece and fill out the online prize form.

App game pieces
If your game piece doesn’t feature an Instant Win prize, you will have a chance to win a prize via the McDonald’s app.

Head over to your mobile app and scan your game piece or manually enter the 12-character code printed on your game piece. The app will instantly tell you whether you’ve won a prize.

All of the following goodies are up for grabs when you play your app game piece in Winning Sips 2024.

  • McDonald’s cooler bag

Any food and drink prizes won via the app will be automatically added to the offers page on your app. Just like with Instant Win game pieces, these prizes can be redeemed at the kiosk, service counter or drive-thru, as well as via the McDonald’s app if you’re ordering online.

This year, there are also some festival tickets up for grabs. If you buy a qualifying McDonald’s drink during the competition period, you could win one of the following pairs of tickets:
  • All Points East festival (5 ticket pairs to be won)

If you win a cash, merch or ticket prize, you’ll need to fill out the same type of online form as Instant Win cash prize winners.

How to increase your chances of winning
There are a few ways to increase your chances of winning a prize in the McDonald’s Winning Sips competition.

Increasing your number of entries is the best way to make winning a big prize more likely. While this does involve buying more drinks (and ultimately spending a little more on your McDonald’s purchase), you can maximise the money you spend by sticking to their cheapest drinks.

McDonald’s diet fizzy drinks are the cheapest eligible drinks in this promotion. These include Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Diet Coke, Sprite Zero and Fanta Orange, as well as the still Oasis option. When we checked our local McDonald’s, all of these drinks in a medium size cost £1.89 each.

If you want to save money on your drinks, you should try to go for sugar-free options where you can. When you buy a Coca-Cola Classic, you’ll have to pay a sugar tax, which means the drink will cost you more than a sugar-free one.

And while McDonald’s milkshakes are delicious, they are by far the most expensive drink in this promotion. Medium milkshakes start at around £2.89, with large milkshakes costing closer to £3.19.

Other things to remember
The rules for the McDonald’s Winning Sips competition can be found here. Some important rules to remember include:
  • You must be 18 or over to take part
  • You’re limited to eight entries per app account per day (24 hours)
  • All game pieces and prizes are subject to availability
  • You can’t enter if you’re an employee of McDonald’s or an immediate family member of a McDonald’s employee

When and where does the competition run?
This year’s McDonald’s Winning Sips game begins on Wednesday, 13th March 2024, and will finish at the end of the day on Tuesday, 16th April 2023.
