I paid £849.99 for this cracking piece of kit 3 months ago. I know the 4500 is out, but this is over £140 more at Teleworld.
They are a good company in my opinion. I received my television within a couple of days of ordering, and this was via standard delivery.

sorted byAwesome TV!!!!!!!
Wish I'd hung on now, but it was a cracker at £849.
I was split between this and the Panasonic freeset. neighbour has just bought the Panasonic and IMO Sony is way better picture and sound.
Great price, Hot!
A good find nevertheless - Thanks:thumbsup:
there are always those cheaper retailers ive never heard of when you do pricechecking - any threads rating their service and reliability?
(obviously heard of empire... em5159 ode not working for me and think must have gone up or else another code needed?)
There was an article in the Telegraph a few days ago saying that Sony will be putting up their prices due to the collapse of sterling. Whether retailers will pass on these increases before Christmas is another matter.
most of the Sony centres operated by Sonex and Debenhams Sonex concessions are doing this for £799 with a blu ray player and 5 year waranty -not sure about delivery, most of them are relatively easy to collect from. These extras are more than worth the £113 difference
I may be wrong but I think the only difference is 4500 has 200htz.
I have the w4000 and next door has just bought the Panasonic HD freesat. The Sony is miles better through Sky HD.
If I didnt want one for xmas, I would have waited until next week where I'm sure there will be some cracking offers, but at this time I think this is a good price for a w4000, although I've not heard of them , and even better if Sainsburys are doing it for £599
awwww seee, you just made me spill my beer!
That's the 40L4000
Anyone care to enlighten me with the difference between the W and the L and V variants please?
For £50 more they'll swap the Blu-ray player for an 80Gb PS3 :santa:
Its for CRTs, nothing to do with LCDs. Dunno why people mention it. LCDs are measured by response rate from a change from black to white which is measured in milliseconds. E.g. 25ms for a high quality IPS or PVA panel. 15ms for a cheaper TN panel. The reason TN is faster but cheaper is because it can't display 16.7 million colours only 200,000 or so. It uses a technique called dithering, where it flips between 2 colours to make it look like the real colour, but they produce an ass picture. Another problem with TN is they have a tight viewing angle. Its getting harder and harder to avoid TN panels. Even Sony use them in their cheaper sets, which is why they can be no longer trusted for high quality.
Generally, the higher the letter after the screen size the better the panel will be. "W" and "Z" are premium range - think of the "L" and "V" a bit like entry level models. HTH
Oh the main difference between the KDL-40W4000 and KDL-40W4500 is that the latter supports 100Mhz. TBH the sony panels are good enough without 100Mhz - I've never seen motion blurring yet on Sonys without 100Mhz (but then I go for the premium models) and this is now being introduced as a marketing gimmick - a bit like the processor speeds.
You pays your money....
My bro just bought this from richer for £689 can you get the difference back if they reduce it few days later???
ive have the v3000 and there is motion blurring not much but its there.
With the best will in the world, you should be a good neighbour and point next door in the direction of avforums so that they can change the settings from default. I spent a while comparing the W4000 and PZ screens and the plasma won hands down on SD and there was no difference on HD.
Having said that I agree with the earlier poster that the W4000 and W4500 were the only LCDs that even came close to the Panny and as is always the case with these thing it is really a subjective decision.
Great TV tho!

This expired very quickly.
Same here. I've noticed no motion blurring on mine, apparently there is on the larger screen (46"+).
I will hopefully be moving to a much bigger house in the new year (assuming I sell mine) and will probably get a 46" 4500 for the living room.
