Can anyone of you negative commentors truly say you have never made a bad choice in life? Her bad choice was drugs/alcohol, either one is a hard habit to kick - the two together is a frightening thought.

I truly believe some people are more prone to acquiring addictions than others, maybe its genetic maybe its mental maybe a bit of both Ive seen people I know battle addictions in different guises, some won others lost but all fought their demons wikth all they had.

Any waste of life is sad whether its at the hands of others or the devil himself. Whether talented or not it doesnt matter.

It's not about fault, blame etc. Keep things in context, she wasn't a murderer or child abuser etc.

It's about common decency and having some respect for the dead.

Should we just forget the 80-90 who died yesterday through no fault of … Should we just forget the 80-90 who died yesterday through no fault of their own then? Just because wino has an OD?

Can you not hold more than one thought in your mind simultaneously?

The two tragedies are different in nature, although I find myself more affected by the Winehouse one because I had direct experience of her through her work.

The Norwegian deaths are just one of those shocking incidents whose sheer vast size impacts you.

I feel like I'm explaining human emotions to an alien though.

F&F - I get the feeling you're arguing for the sake of arguing.

Yes, it is a shame as she was talented (at one stage pre 2007).
However, the sympathy ends there. Many people have troubles in life but the majority of us do not go down the path of drugs nor do we associate ourselves with those who do. It is common knowledge that both heroin and crack can lead to instant addictions so why would you even contemplate taking either?

If down to peer pressure then she should've known better as she wasn't exactly from a 'bad' family. If it was to rebel against her upbringing then that's even worse as it would've been attention seeking leading to a dreadful addiction. She no doubt knew people would get 'interested' by her 'rock and roll' lifestyle thus exagerrating what she had achieved in the music industry. The average Sun reader loves reading about a rebel's lifestyle.

So yes, it's a shame she died but it was through her own choice. Becoming a junkie increases your chances of death tenfold and she only ever had herself to blame for it.

So for all you who say it was a self induced death, none of you have friends or family members that smoke, and may die of lung cancer, or friends and family members that drink and may die of drinking related illnesses, Being a junkie is an illness in itself, someone has died and all you people can do is flame her for brining on herself.

I hope you never find yourself in the same situation. I hope one of your friends does not die of lung cancer because they smoked, if they do i guess you will say the same about them as you are about her.

The definition of the word 'tragedy'.

Outrageously talented yet unable to contain her demons. She certainly isn't the first and won't be the last.

The only ones being removed are the ones stating it's a good thing she died...........which is the correct and respectful thing to do.

Sad news, no need for the cruel comments. She had her problems leave it at that. I wonder if she got to finish that album she was working on.

She could've been a star, but decided she'd rather be a skank. Even Rab, my mate at work, said he wouldn't, and that's saying something. She was always a post mortem waiting to happen.

I hope none of them smoked or used drugs on a recreational basis.

Janis joplis, Jim Morrison, river phoenix, heath ledger, Kurt kobain, john belushi, marilyn Monroe and Freddie Mercury (who tragically died of aids) lives were tragically cut short due to, in some way, brought on by drink and drugs but you wouldn't feel the need to speak ill of them and just call them junkie wasters. I agree that none of them fulfilled their true potentials but why feel the need to mock dead? They were all flaw characters with their lives tragically cut short but they will be remembered for the art they created and Amy Winehouse should be granted the same respect imo.

Didn't like her. Didn't like her music or pretty much anything about her and her hangers on.

It is however a sad waste of life and particularly sad for her parents who tried everything to get her on the straight and narrow.

    RIP Amy Winehouse.

I agree she didn't fulfil her potential and I also agree she threw her life away on drink and drugs but I can't believe that her talent is being disputed. As a person I disagreed with everything she was but there's no denying she was a gifted artist.

She was also a successful recording artist.

Why just focus on the negative aspects of her life, unless you think that we're ultimately judged on the worst aspects of our life?

I’d rather be a drug addict than one of the cold hearted small minded petty posters on here who are seemingly filled with so much anger and hatred and so little tolerance and compassion.
These kinds of people are already dead inside to a degree so maybe that is why they are drawn to spout their venom on this thread as they relate closely to death.
Their attitude reminds me of fundamentalist religious types who are often unable to see things in anything but a black and white perspective.
Such small minds and closed hearts which is a scary combination.
