Well if you grabbed on from the Tesco deal then this is the place to chat, ask advice, share tips etc.

UPDATE:

Well this thread has gathered some pace over the last few days with some excellent posts and links.

gx3K will be keeping post 1 upto date with the latest developments so please look here first to see if this answers your questions.

So a big thanks to gx3k for his continued help (VIP Badge coming his way maybe!) and the others giving their time to help the others.

What are the benefits to putting a custom rom on the Archos?

Is it easy enough for a beginner to do?
#2842
Which is the better ICS ROM, 900supersport or kasty?

Also do I need to root the tab with the below guide before I can put on a custom rom?

I've switched 2 of my archos 80s to this new jb ROM now. Nice to be able to view BT sport at last! Really fast and smooth ROM plus app compatibility is very high.

Keeping 3rd archos with stock ROM for comparisons (plus my youngest doesn't need the jb ROM).

Do I need to root it before following the process of installing the JB rom?

My Archos remains totally unmodified so I'm not sure on the best way to go add there seems to be multiple guides

Maybe someone can help me out here. Ive just got a Samsung 64gb MicroSD card that i've finally got formatted to 62.38gb (in a first gen OLED ZTE Blade of all things!) but now the USB Mass Storage mode isnt working. I plug the USB in and it asks if i want to turn the USB Storage on and seems to be turned on in the tablet when i authorise it, but the sd drive never shows up in the PC as it always did before. Anyone got any ideas before i leave this microsd back and leave well enough alone?

Hi, can you advise if the JB rom solves the problem with the latest you tube versions and buffering ?

I still have to use the old you tube version to prevent this.

Try formatting the card again on your PC.....using a tool called "Verbatim FAT Formatter". I think you can get it from Verbatims site.

***edit.... Just re-read your post and noticed you can't get your PC to recognise it. I'm stumped now. I did have this same problem with my 64gb cards but it was so long ago that I can't remember what I did. I know for sure that the Verbatim tool fixed everything though.

How can I remove the back cover from this, I have a new LCD screen for this but I can't install it as I can't figure out how to get the back off. If anyone could help, this would be brilliant. Please and thank you. :)

It does indeed.

As smooth as butter and the quality looks better to me.

Hey, thanks for the advice. The PC sees the card in the reader but only as 30gb which is typical for windows anyway but i have no way to tell if the reader even supports more than 32gb. As i say, my Blade phone has recognised it and presumably formatted it in some way and ive tried all sorts of formatting/partitioning programs to no avail when connected thru it in USB mass storage mode. Both Blade and Cobalt see it as 62.38gb which seems a little high to me. Neither device allows file transfer thru USB mass storage, in the Blade it fails and crashes explorer and the Cobalt wont show the drive at all in windows. Its just a mess. I see a few buyers reporting this one as fake or faulty from the black friday deals where i got it and ive also seen reports of this card working in the Cobalt. Ive tried all sorts of recommended formatters and partitioning programs to no avail.

The new jb ROM also makes the screen look way better than before, really vibrant, didn't really notice this until I put it side-by-side with one running stock firmware ;)

This JB Rom is quite an amazing boost to my tablet. It feels like new and is very smooth. You tube now working on latest version.

Only problem I have is when entering deep sleep the tablet needs to be rebooted.

Overall very pleased but would like to solve the sleep issue

Does the Cobalt format microsd cards when you erase and remount?
#2856
How do I do this? I've read the guides but still unsure

Hi, I suspect I know what the answer is but I'm here for advice. My five year old dropped my Archos 80 onto a hard floor so the screen is broken (not externally but the LCD screen inside is "bleeding" and it's unusable).

Any chance I can get Tesco to take this back? Unlikely I know as it's not due to a fault but has anyone tried with a similar problem and had any success? If so, how did you explain it?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't experienced this at all :/ The power button has seemed to be a little temperamental however, so maybe it's just that it takes a few goes?

You suspect right lol

If it has been damaged in such a way then it would be unethical to even think of asking Tesco to take it back.

Would be difficult to explain to your 5 year old would it not?

I only experienced issues with the power button when I turned off HDMI in the settings.
