Heads up parents - A two-year-old girl was left with 'horrific' agonising cuts and a bloodied foot after wearing a pair of Next jelly sandals

Possible recall incoming on these, just incase you have them.

Lisa Connor alleges daughter Esmé Connor suffered deep incisions to her right ankle after wearing the brand new pink children's size five shoes - which she had received as a birthday present - around her house and garden on Monday morning.

Next are currently investigating, just worth keeping an eye on until official outcome has been announced.

Once outcome has been announced, i'll update.

My 3yr old daughter has these exact shoes and has just worn them on holiday in 30 C. No problem at all. They need socks and to be done up loosely.

If you read between the lines, the article and the comments this very much looks like a parenting issue!

I remember having jelly shoes as a child and had the same thing, any kind of new plastic shoe will not be the softest until worn in. A small child running around with sweaty feet in a pair of these is a recipe for skin rubbing and breaking.

The more she would be running the more the blood will flow, the 'wound' doesn't look that serious. Yes it might look dramatic but anything with blood on it always does!

To be fair they do look too small, her heel is right at the back and the clasp looks like it's on near enough tightest setting.

No I'm not the parent but I'm friends with the parent and there was no … No I'm not the parent but I'm friends with the parent and there was no way any neglect so sick of seeing judgmental ppl..

this says it all hopefully the little girl was having to much fun to notice the cut what a lot of people don't get is how the parents didn't notice, nearly every comment on here reflects this, and with similar comments on other forums. in todays world any "neglect" especially where the press are involved will be raised to social services and put a family on the radar. Maybe the main issue now for your friends are that they went to the press on an issue which clearly isn't about the design of the product itself where they should have kept it to themselves. Not everything should be posted on social media, sent to the news.

Leaving a child in a car on its own is hardly the same as a shoe cutting … Leaving a child in a car on its own is hardly the same as a shoe cutting a little ones foot, she was with an adult at all times ffs!!

Please remember that this is a family site and no need for abbreviated swearing, and you are not doing your friend any good going on like that

Surely the child would have moaned about sore feet before it got bad enough to cause deep incisions?

*sigh* if only the parents were miscites and had read the crocs thread, this may never have happened.

At least little Esmé has had the opportunity to practise her daily mail sad face. It's a terrifically important life skill.

Regardless of wether the shoes were too small or not, I can't believe the parents didn't notice this sooner. Getting a tiny little blister as an adult is bad enough and you can feel it getting worse as soon it starts rubbing, for it to get to this point must have been really painful to a child. If the parents had been paying attention to her, they would've have noticed, even if the child said nothing they would have (should have) noticed the child limping or showing signs of discomfort prior to it getting this bad

Seen this about on social media and think its horrible but i can also tell that the pair of jelly shoes are at LEAST a size to small for her and surely the child must of said her mum that her feet were sore in the run up to the half an hour she said her daughter was out in them??
  11. deleted1499422's avatar
I would like to no why did they leave them on for so long as you can see the blood drying around the foot.
  12. deleted218063's avatar
The blood is only where the shoes been which makes it look worse. Doesnt look like a deep incision either

It takes a while to get through the automated menus at the Daily Mail's call centre to find out what kind of photos they require.

why would the social services get involved over a a cut from a shoe? are … why would the social services get involved over a a cut from a shoe? are u for real? ppl like u really need to think before typing such crap!!! for a start the shoes were not the wrong fitting and if u closely at the pic u will see that the strap round her ankle is lose not tight, and she also has loads of room in front of her toes where she has her heel raised at the back, try knowing the facts before judging as we all know papers lie and make the story worse than it is to get ppl to read it...

The dried blood sort of points to neglect, It means she was probably in pain a while ago and the parents have failed to notice. A normal parent would probably know but it seems to you that it's ok to be ignorant? blame the manufacturer etc... They also look like they could be too small but that might not be the case. Either way they clearly don't fit her correctly.

All shoes and feet are different.

are you for real, the girls foot is hanging over the back of the shoe, it is squeezed into the front, if you know anything about kids shoes you would know. The parents let the child walk around with obviously a sore foot for 30 minutes, but failed to notice, the blood was dry. We are talking about a child who requires care not one who can just go off on her own for 30 minutes. If you think that this is acceptable parenting then I pity any kids you may have or will have.

The comment about social services is a valid one, they are there to ensure the wealth fare of the child, by going to the press, its across all forms of media, they have brought themselves to the attention of social services.

I hope you look back at your viscous post and reconsider what you have written, no one should go on such a rant when its obvious to everyone in this post that the parents were at fault.

So actually it doesn't mean she was in pain for a while she had them on 30 mins max hardly a long time is it? And as I said b4 if u look at the pic properly u will see there not too small so don't assume that the parents neglected her when u clearly don't know the facts!!

I wonder if you are the parents of the child new poster joins up to post what you have, poor showing.

Any parent that allows a child to wear jelly sandals (regardless of make) without socks is despicable! They make your feet sweat therefore causing excess movement and rubbing between foot and shoe and surely the little girl felt discomfort long before the bleeding!!!!! Not the fault of manufacturers but of the parent!!! Sheer stupidity! Reeks of a compensation claim to be honest

My daughter has these shoes. She is two this month and has worn them all day today with no issues or problems or cuts.
Not to mention the buckle actually pings off off if they are too tight. So I don't think this is an issue with the shoe itself.
  22. sweeten16's avatar
I don't think cheap rubbery sandals should be worn bare foot if at all. Tight fit + sweat = bad time.

I read this story earlier and agree the shies look too small and wonder what sort of parents stop to take pictures of the childs foot still in the shoe and bleeding before removing shoe and comforting child. Surely you'd snatch it straight off not grab your phone. All sounds a bit suspect to me sorry
  24. deleted1499452's avatar
Omg don't think my last comment went on, so here it goes I can't believe how many judgmental ppl there is on here, I think the parents would know if a pair of shoes were too small and if u look closely at the pic u will see the shoes were not done up to tight and there was plenty of space in front of her toes as she had her heel raised, so maybe before judging people's parenting and not knowing the facts maybe not comment at all pretty simple how would u all feel if u was the parent having this **** said about u? Being in the firing line is not nice!!! So maybe try thinking of there feelings before u type!!

My 20 months old daughter has the exact same shoes and we haven't had any problems. She has worn them all of last week with socks and we haven't had any cuts or rubbing of any description. There is a label on the shoes which states that they are rubber shoes and they shouldn't be worn for prolonged periods of time. Maybe they were done up too tight or are the wrong size for little ones feet

I never liked plastic sandals even as a kid . They always seem to do that . Clarks all the way for every type of shoe from the minute they can walk till secondary school for me . I would never put a child in shoes that were not properly fitted and their feet measured for . Worth every penny
  27. deleted1499565's avatar
How long was this poor bairn limping about with a sore foot before her parents took the shoes off?! And how come their first instinct was to take photos ...while she still has the other shoe on? "Where there's blame there's a claim" culture.

Then as their friend, you should point out their neglect so they don't do it again.

I dunno they look the correct size, foot isn't as far forward as could be & look like size 5 so it'll be about right.

Small child running around, sweaty feet and plastic shoes with bare feet -not a good combination. The blood from the small skin tear is well dried, to me that means the wee girl had been running and playing quite the thing for a while without noticing it.

I thought the same tbh I wouldn't be happy though if it was my kid and I'd have told everyone but I think they need to wash foot 1st and see what the actual damage is, I'd have worn -in with socks as with normal shoes

They're a size 4, you can see that the foot is too wide for the shoe, it's digging in by the toes, the heals hanging over the foot and it's digging in.

She needs a 5 at least or 6

i wouldn't be surprised if the parent have a knock on the door from social services this week after the press this has got, as others have said on here and other media outlets which have ran the story there are to many concerns here wrong fitting shoes the starting point, not realising the little girl is in pain which she must have been and why is the blood dry. Sad story.
