If I buy a sealed iphone from ebay does the warranty start from when I register it?

Or would it have already started since the phone has been in the seller's possesion?

Excellent revival of an 8 year old thread.

i believe it to start once the seller gets it from their supplier

Apple do a seperate warranty from purchase?
Legally it is down to the retailer, if you bought it from a private seller, no such coverage applies, from a Limited Business that sells on ebay and you do.

oh well I am just thinking about one from a private seller. so does that mean I won't get any warranty?

legally yes, he will have warranty with who he bought it from but you wouldn't.
However that doesn't mean apple wouldnt repair it if required.

The warranty is with the initial buyer, you may have problems if you register / claim.

If the box is SEALED (in cellophane) then the 12 months warranty will start from when you open and activate it.

The warranty will not show up until the Phone has been registered via iTunes

    how would that work?
Surely the warranty would be from purchase date?

This is what I don't understand, why would Apple offer any warranty at all when legally it's all the burden of the retailer for the 1st 12 months, again no private seller has to offer such a warranty.

I've claimed replacements when the warranty is clearly not in my name, i just told the apple genius at their bar thing, i bought it on eBay but it does have such and such amount of months left on the warranty, and they didn't treat me any differently. The warranty isn't transferable, but will work for others if already registered, only difference is that on the claim report it has the original registerers details and not yours, but it don't really matter is what I'm saying.

My Son bought an iPhone from a colleague at work, he was quite open about it the fact that he had it for 3 months but never opened it (box still sealed) when my Son registered it with iTunes the warranty showed 12 months from that date

I would personally never buy a sealed iPhone off Ebay without an upgrade / original purchase receipt, purely for the simple reason, its not been nicked. You wont however need any paperwork regards the warranty, as it will be registered to you on activation in iTunes.

TBH I think your being a bit hasty here ! Take a look at the Tesco deal, if I was you I'd give this one a miss + there are early issues with the iP4 so it might be better dealing with a company you bought it off, should a problem arise.

All I did was talk to Apple support 1 phone call,
    why dont people do that?
so many theories are wrong on here.

apple support technicians said, the warrenty starts the moment it’s activated .
    Exactly what I thought.

some of these Apple gadgets remain of the factory or the shops secure rooms for up to a year. It more,

So its obvious really it’s from activation point.
    fact ..... problem solved
