Pope Benedict is an anagram of Epic Bent Pedo.

    Explain that, atheists!

Man, it'll be hard guessing what the reason might be. I'll overlook the whole nazi thing, but what else? The Catholic Church deems it perfectly acceptable to rape white children while condemning brown children to death through willful deceit, they deem it acceptable to preach charity and living humbly while living in the grandest and most decadent city in the history of man, and they deem it acceptable to proactively fight to limit individual human rights. It's sort-of what they're about, even.

So, what could he possibly have done that would be worse than that? Personally, I don't think it could be anything. When you're looking at an evil on a magnitude of the Catholic Church, there isn't really a level beyond. Maybe he's just old.

I think we need to show some respect for other peoples faiths or we could get a gang of christians with contacts in the criminal underworld descending on the forum and getting a lot of members banned.

Or am I getting my religions mixed up.

He is an old man, show some respect. It sickens me to see all the allegations of child abuse and quips about orphanages. Any organisation or religion will have its bad apples but we don't define an entire faith by them.

And whilst we may differ on theological matters I respect his knowledge and wisdom and I believe this act actually shows sincerety to his faith.

If he feels that he can't do the role justice, fair play to him. In many ways it shows great force of character to do what no other pope has done. And there are things we may never know, he may be very ill or his mind faltering. who are we to question him.

I hope he lives out the rest of his days in peace.

Dear Brothers, I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only … Dear Brothers, I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonisations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry. I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering. However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognise my incapacity to adequately fulfil the ministry entrusted to me. For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is. Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff. With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer. From the Vatican, 10 February 2013 BENEDICTUS PP XVI YOLO

Who cares about the pope. We spent millions of pounds entertaining him here in the UK for what? Religion is old fashioned and stupid. I respect people's individual beliefs but why should one man supposedly representing god/the church, be living like a king when people are still dying from basic things like no fresh water pipes....or babies dying because they can't afford a 2p tetanus jab.

shame ppl who know very little about the pope and the catholic faith, … shame ppl who know very little about the pope and the catholic faith, make such shocking comments, the child abuse was not confined to the catholic church, major scandal going on in the Jewish faith re rabies involved in child sex abuse but that does not fit in to the attacks on the catholics. He is the first pope for more than 600 years to do this, it is totally on health grounds, he is a modern man who was the assistant of the last pope and he seen him deteriorate, and unable to carry out his duties, I think he decided that when he took office he would not do the sameGod bless himPrays for the Church

Just because others are doing it doesn't make it any less awful..

And totally on health grounds. Right.. As you say, every pope for the last 600 years has managed it to the end.

And God bless him? Just no. He had direct involvement with the child abuse cover up and the spread of AIDS across Africa.

    Good riddance.

It was a hollow statement. For years he campaigned against the use of contraception until 2010 he said they could be used in exceptional cases such as male prostitution. To follow up, the holy office said "the Pope's statement did not constitute a legitimization of either prostitution or contraception, both of which remain gravely immoral."

So yeah, like I said, hollow.

Ive just come on, and while reading through the comments, I was quite disgusted.

People are ruthless on here and just join the bandwagon without realising how much damage they are doing and how much of human compassion they risk losing when they allow themselves to get carried away with the wolves.

I have respect for the man, if only for his age and his years of service and devotion for his belief. His compassion and commitment for his faith. He cannot be universally be held responsible for all the priests who have done away from the teachings and committing crimes, the same way you cannot be held responsible for a mugging that happens at the end of your street.

The fact that he has left such a sought position shows that he does not wish to do his position and religion disservice if he feels he cannot carry out his appointed duties with due diligence and for that he must be commended. Even if he looks a little like the devil.
