Simply Electronics - A Warning !!!

Humphman Avatar
7y, 1m agoPosted 7 years, 1 month ago
I recently ordered a digital camera from the above company, as having done quite a bit of searching, they came out the cheapest. Well after waiting 3 weeks for a 2-8 day despatch, I cancelled it and was assured of a refund within 7 days, 6 weeks later I'm still fighting for it, and am sending all the details to my solicitor. Be warned, never ever use this cowboy outfit, they make all the right noises but do not deliver - literally !!
p.s. Ordered same camera on Amazon and got it next day !!!!

We placed an order for an Asus Tablet at a good price of around £380.00 on 4th July 2012.
Decided to cancel within 24 hours due to unforeseen circumstances. E-mailed Simply Electronics requesting the return of money.
Received replying email within 24 hours.
To cut a long story short, I did think that we were probably going to lose our money.
However, Simply Electronics kept us posted about time schedules their side and likely time of refund.
On the 16th July we received notification that refund was about to be effected and money was finally in our bank on the 18th. July 2012.
They were true to their word!
I cannot really complain about the service and I would consider placing another order at a later date, although if the difference was up to £50.00 then I'd buy from Amazon or a UK based company.

Maybe you have benefitted from all the hard work many others have had to go through? My case was not so easy

I have today contacted the following people with regard to my experience with Simply Electronics I had £2200 taken from my account within seconds of purchasing a Canon 1D mkiii. I was informed by SE I would have to 'proove' who I was and where I lived even though I used Visa and had to go through their own security confirmation. I was advised by my bank I SHOULD NOT send any copies regarding Passport, driving licence or utility bills as requested by SE. I cancelled my order and informed my debit card holder who told me they would get my funds back if SE took longer than 28days to refund me which is UK law. When I recieve responses I will post them here for all to see.

Hi
**************DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE http://www.****/ (Known as simplyelectronics) all they do is take your money and you never see the goods I recently ordered a phone for £439 have sent numerous e-mail, but no reply, tonight I said that I would see legal action, they sent and automated message I have 6 automated messages all saying the same someone will ring back, when I tried to ring they said there is a waiting time of 1 hour their phone number 0844 499 0616, this started ringing bells - complaints. Under google I put the company name and it came out with this forum with lots of complaints of non delivery. There website looks good, but I found when I wanted to copy and paste something from it, it would not let me do it, also when ypu into the FAQ pages you just go round in circules, it says you can check your status, when you click on it you are back to the beginning. I ordered the item on the 30 July 2012 as item was in stock delivery quoted 3-4 days (No wonder delivery was FREE it was because you would not get your oroduct). They have taken this amount from my account on the 1 August 2012, I have stopped my card, and have informed the fraud department. When I did a little more research they are a company based in china!!!
BUYER BEWARE DO NOT USE SIMPLY ELECTRONICS TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THIS.

For anyone struggling with refunds etc, remeber you can do a chargeback through your bank, now this isnt just for Credit Cards, But Debit Cards too, as long as the card is a VISA you shoudl have no problems, ie: Visa Debit, VIsa Electron are all fine to intiate a chargeback and you will have an instant refund.

Hi I have just read your e-mail I ordered a phone from these cons - on the 30 July 2012 and noticed that they have taken £439.95 from mu account on the 1 August 2012 but of course no goods, various emails sent all you get is a automated reply I got six exactly the same, what do you mean by a charge back I used my visa debit card.

Thanks Anna

SE are SLOW they are POOR they sell 'GREY' goods they send 'DAMAGED' goods, they 'DELAY', they send email after email BUT after enough complaints they do 'REFUND' So start complaining through emails so it does not 'COST' you more money and take the fight to them. Here is a few places to start. DO NOT be put off by them or use of Debit cards etc get your bank involved or the company dealing with your card and write to everyone here copy and paste the same letter but take action is only way to get 'REFUNDS'

I have just sent the following email to watchdog which is [email protected] I obtained the address from AMAZON before they deleted a posting giving it, now this is not the first time AMAZON have deleted helpful advice and support needed by disgruntled customers. Maybe Nailez or someone else with good psychic or hindsight qualities can assist as to why? Hotukdeals have never deleted them and the list below can also be found above on this forum

"I would like to further add to the emails you have received regarding a Hong Kong company called Simply Electronics.net
Who advertise on the internet and have since 2008 ignored hundreds of reuests to improve their customer service and duty of care. They have repeatedly sold 'grey' stock openly though Ebay and Amazon, companies who have done nothing to stop this rogue trader from selling to innocent customers via the Ebay and Amazon web sites.

The same excuses can be seen over and over again since 2008 concerning money taken from accounts with items saying in stock, these items have often never appeared, are damaged, have been found to be second hand and even have been found to be counterfeit with Canon refusing to repair and the Hong Kong police involved. The post that refer to these complaints can be widely seen on Amazon at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Reviews-of-Simply-Electronics/forum/Fx2L8YAWZTSCQUK/Tx2JDL36I8HDYBS/25/ref=cm_cd_et_up_redir?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B00065GZL2&newContentID=Mx3N8PZ

On Hotukdeals at

http://www.hotukdeals.com/misc/simply-electronics-a-warning-391698?page=7#post15142890

or http://simplyelectronicsnot.webs.com/ a web site created by myself to help others who find themselves being misled, mis-sold or mis-informed by Simply Electronics.

It is very difficult to know just exactly what SE are up to on the net but fact1 is they take money for goods immediately from a customers account. fact2 the item is listed in stock and often remains in stock throughout the complaint period. fact3 people are kept waiting in long queues for phone calls to SE costing a lot more money! fact4 people have to wait way beyond the statutory 28 days for giving refunds, in some cases months. fact5 people are often told goods were found damage and so were not sent out, often they were last on shelf! fact6 people have often written about receiving 'grey' stock non CE marked goods which have NO warranty in UK. etc etc

Amazon still permits SE to sell on the Amazon marketplace even after all the negative feedback, SE has been complained almost daily on one of the above complaint forum/sites, Amazon recently deleted several posts written to help the people who were in great distress about loosing money etc this was the post: deleted by Amazon

PLEASE PLEASE can you look into why this company is allowed to operate using UK addresses even though it escapes UK and European laws by registering in Hong Kong. FOUR years of complaints about the same kind of grievance shows they are doing it intentionally and deliberately, the question is WHY? how do they make money from it? Several people have said illegal activity took place on their card AFTER dealing with SE. Maybe this is why even after taking your money they will ask for driving licence passport or utility copies!! My bank said NO I got my £2200 back after 28 days many others are not so lucky or understand the need to complain complain complain

All the best

Hi Vanessa - I have sent you a PM.

James

Be very careful to identify who you are talking to and do not disclose additional details that you would expect the company to already hold. Many times, a second wave of scammers operate by appearing to help people already in distress from an initial scam. So instead of processing a refund, they just take more money from you! (note that I am accusing simply electronics or this vanessa nessa of being scammers s rs. )..

Agreed.

Avoid simplyelectronics. They sell foreign imports that don't qualify for proper manufacturer's warranties. I've set up a twitter account called @avoid_SE to allow people to share their experiences of shopping with simplyelectronics on twttier.

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!!

I placed an order for a camera which was due to be dispatched within 2-4 days. The company was not able to keep to their promise which meant I had to go without a camera for a family member's wedding. I tried on numerous occasions to call them and found their customer phone line to have unacceptable queuing times - more than an hour - every time I called.

I finally asked for a refund via email and they failed to respond which meant I had to queue on their phone line and and speak to their customer service team. I am now waiting for the refund to be processed and hoping that it will go through in the time scale they have promised but I won't be holding my breath!

Interesting point - when I called their Sales Team I managed to speak to someone straight away - no waiting time - although they would not help me and said I had to speak to Customer Services.

If you want to receive your order on time I recommend paying a little extra and buying from another company.
