Simply Electronics - A Warning !!!

HumphmanHumphman

I recently ordered a digital camera from the above company, as having done quite a bit of searching, they came out the cheapest. Well after waiting 3 weeks for a 2-8 day despatch, I cancelled it and was assured of a refund within 7 days, 6 weeks later I'm still fighting for it, and am sending all the details to my solicitor. Be warned, never ever use this cowboy outfit, they make all the right noises but do not deliver - literally !!
p.s. Ordered same camera on Amazon and got it next day !!!!

SE are the WORST company going, 27 days, eleven e-mails and I'm still £975 down. I don't know that I hold much hope of getting it back.

Currently I've contacted the Hong Kong consumer council, The Daily Mail and Watchdog. I'll be on the phone to my bank and VISA first thing Monday morning to see what they can do about getting me my money back.

Totally agree Kalavere, for me 29 days ongoing nightmare, almost £600 down, countless e-mails to SE, KwikChex etc.
But no way will I give up until I'm refunded, won't stop complaining, posting on review sites such as this, something I've never done before in my life. But then I've never had a worse shopping experience in my life!!
Sad that this company have been getting away with holding onto innocent consumers money for years now, yet the only people that seem to be taking any action, are other victims like ourselves
So looks as though all we can do is COMPLAIN COMPLAIN COMPLAIN and keep on complaining until someone somewhere listens!

Oh dear! I ordered a Panasonic camcorder last week, only £149, but i only realised it was a Hong Kong based company when the DHL tracking page indicated it! Mind you, I have a DHL tracking number, I assume then that it's on it's way right? Or has anyone any experience of having a tracking number and yet their item still didn't show up?
    kathandy
Your item may well be on its way bravepants but you could find yourself with a grey market import if/when it does arrive. Sorry to sound negative but can only judge from my own experience! My goods did turn up but were poorly packed and contained no manufacturers warranty. The manufacturers have confirmed i've received a grey market import, not intended for sale in this country. I took photographic and video evidence before returning the goods to simply electronics and have backed up all correspondence, including tracking return of parcel so I have evidence it was returned and signed for. I would not have gone anywhere near this company either had I known they were Hong Kong based. Their website is intentionally deceptive so something really needs to nee

I know other people have had bad experiences with them but I ordered a 7D about 2 years ago and didn't really have a problem. Took them about a week to deliver. Package came, great condition. Seems to be hit and miss then.
    kathandy
Unfortunately the majority seem to misses! And for those of us that are spending Weeks, if not months fighting to get back our cash returned from this dreadful company, its an anxiety filled experience, one that we should not have to tolerate. Admittedly simply electronics do seem to be able to deliver promptly enough from time to time. Mine was actually delivered in 5 days!!
Problem was it was 5 days after cancellation and despite numerous emails requesting them not to deliver canceled goods they went ahead, saying goods were dispatched before they got my cancellation email. Quite hard to believe as the status of my order did not change from new to packing until 2days after cancellation...strange!!
But, yes they do fulfil just enough to get the occasional positive amongst all the negatives

I just want to say thanks to http://www.kwikchex.com/ they have helped me get a refund and are an excellent company. If you need help contact them, they are simply amazing. I have no connection or interest in this company, they just helped me get a refund. Thanks!

I have used Simply Electronics to buy camera. According to webside my product was in stock and should be dispatch after few days. After two weeks i have started worried. I was trying firstly call them to find out what is happening, i have spend hours before finaly i managed to get in touch with someone and they where useless - basicly i have not received any explenation. So i send mail, or rather many of them. Every single answer was pointles without any proper excuse. After over 40 days waiting when i have received another answer saying that they are sorry for "slight delay" and thay dont know what is wrong i gave up and asked for refund which was accepted after two more requests for it. i was promissed to get as soon as posible. It is almost 3 weeks already and i still waiting for my money back. Onestly if you are planning to used they completly unprofessional sevice, i recomend to think again.

I ordered a sigma 1.4x converter on the 15th June. The web site stated delivery in 3 to 8 days. I waited 2 weeks....nothing. I emailed and after a few days was told they didnt have any in stock and didnt know when they would be getting any in stock. They asked if I wanted a refund. I stupidly said no. 2 weeks later I get a parcel, a teleconverter but not the 1.4x I ordered, but a more expensive 2x converter. I emailed to tell them and to arrange a swap. First I had to prove their mistake by sending a photo, then wait over a week for the parcel to be collected, then wait 10 days to be told the item ahad been inspected and was indeed delivered to me by mistake REALLY? I then asked if delivery would be long as I needed it for my holiday. I assumed, again stupidly, that 7 weeks was long enough. I heard nothing. Now it was too late for my holiday. Then to top it all off I get an email telling me my repaired item will be despatched soon. What repaired item? I've asked for a refund but I'm not expecting it anytime soon. If I could give this company no stars I would. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever had. If they have it in stock you might get lucky, if not I pity you and the service you will get. If you read reviews on other forums I am not alone and this is not an isolated case.

After 4 years of complaints GKillon's would be the very first they actually received their goods and were not what was ordered!!

I am in the process of filing complaints against Simply Electronics, both in the UK and in Hong Kong using the helpful links given by the many other victims of this dreadful company.
I ordered a camera with Simply Electronics on 12/07/12. Following a phone call with them later the same day requesting an upgrade to express delivery, which they were unable to fulfil, I cancelled the order, they requested that I cancel by sending an e-mail, which I did and had return e-mail from them acknowledging my cancellation.
However as I learnt I would not have a refund for 7 days, I immediately 'smelt a rat' and looked at the online reviews... my heart sank, as I had paid £570.81!! After contacting my bank, I was informed by them that this amount was showing up on their system "earmarked as authorised" but had not yet appeared as a debit. As the order had been cancelled and I had received an acknowledgement of cancellation from SE, I hoped that the payment would be reversed and my money would be available to me again within days. However as my suspicions had been aroused I kept an eye on the status of my order with SE. The following day I was horrified to see that this cancelled order had changed from 'new' to 'packing'. I e-mailed them again immediately, reminding them the order had been cancelled and I did not want this camera sent.
I heard nothing more (apart from the usual automated response) until morning of 16/07/12, I had e-mail from them to say "they were delighted to inform me my parcel was on its way"!!! It was also on this date that the £570.81 showed for the first time on my account as a debit!!!!
I e-mailed once more, protesting that the order had been cancelled almost 4 days earlier and this time they managed to e-mail within minutes offering a free gift if I accepted the parcel and said, " Unfortunately the order had been dispatched before they received my cancellation e-mail". Quite hard to believe since the order was cancelled evening of 12th july, within hours of being placed, order status did not change to ‘packing’ until after cancellation and camera was not dispatched until 16th July!?
The camera arrived on Tue 17th july, just under 5 days of both placing and cancelling the order, so it appears they CAN deliver quickly when it suits!!
Unfortunately I was not at home when the couriers arrived and they delivered the parcel to our business premises next to our house, where it was signed for by a family member who was unaware of the situation.
At this stage, knowing I was dealing with a bunch of cowboys, I reckoned if I returned the camera to SE I was likely to lose both money and camera, so thought I'd examine the camera with the thought of possibly keeping it rather than lose everything. Unfortunately there was no manufacturers warranty, no CE markings and after having it examined by the manufacturer, it was confirmed by them as a grey market import. I have kept photographic and video evidence of this.
After a lot of hassle and numerous e mails to SE the camera was eventually returned for refund.
Before return, I requested from SE a suitable delivery address for return of parcel and the name of the couriers that I should expect for collection of the parcel. The couriers, who turned up unannounced, were not the same company that SE gave me and the return address that the couriers gave was also different to the address SE gave me. I had requested an RMA form from SE before the camera was returned, and only yesterday I had an e mail from them "kindly asking if the courier had been in contact with me yet to arrange collection of the parcel"!! This is despite me having e mailed SE 3 times since the couriers had collected the parcel, sending them a copy of the return tracking, which gives details of the time it was delivered to them and the name of the person who signed for it!
I have been in contact with KwikChex, who have said they will chase this up on my behalf.
I have given Simply Electronics a reasonable amount of time to at least begin a refund process but it is now clear they are just fobbing me off to hold onto my money for as long as they possibly can. So I feel the time has now come for formal complaints, and also to warn others of the dangers of dealing with such a "so called" company like Simply Electronics

    Hi
As my origional message on the forum where I stated that I ordered a mobile phone on the 30 July 2012 costing £439.95
from this tredful company SE!!! I asked about delivery they apologised for the delay and said the same as you they would upgrade the
delivery (You now know why they say Free delivery - you never get it), then all I would get was automated messages.
I sent a very strong e-mail to KWIKChex saying how can you award this company an award, when they are ripping people off, I have
today looked at the SE website and that award has now been removed! I wonder why!!! Anyway they had taken the money from the account on the 1 August 2012. I also told KWIKChex there are lots of complaints, because they had said that they have not received many complaints so I gave them this link. SO SUGGEST EVERYONE SEND A COMPLAINT TO KWICKCHEX - also when you look at the forum this has been going on for FOUR YEARS - so why are they still trading, they need to be struck off the website (but knowing the type of people running the company, they would only start up another one with another name. You either do not get the product, or is is a grey import. Anyway KWIKCex said they would try and get a refund as I said I want the order cancelled because I had a feeling it would be a Grey import. Well wait for this...................................... I GOT A FULL REFUND INTO MY BANK ON THE 15 AUGUST 2012, mind you it has been a stressfull job!!! SE Said they money would take 2-3 days but up to 10days depending on the bank, well funny it did not take them 10 days to take it out of my bank......
This has been a lesson learned if I purchase anything on line from a company that I do not recognise I will put the company name under google, this was how I found this forum, I put simply electronics forum, and it popped up I could not believe it.
So DO NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT - TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THEM PUT IT ON FACEBOOK ETC
    Bravepants
Well I ordered my camera on Friday 10th August, it arrived on 15th and for £149 I'm happy!
    EOS1D
Well done bravepants thats great news and you have just joined an almost unique club of 1, maybe you are wondering why no one else ever writes here with the kind of news you have got. Check the serial number if there is one, its probably a fake or grey stock so wont have one. It wont have a warranty so you can never get it repaired under warranty in UK as it will definitely not be UK stock, only lenses are warranty worldwide. It might be secondhand so do check actuations or if there is setting other than factory which can show it was used before. Dont be too worried by this as SE do include a 'in house warranty' which we all know is useless and costs you more than the repair and then they either loose the camera or say it was broken lost stolen etc and you now need to prove you actually bought it received it and have never misused it etc so you end up giving up and throwing the camera you thought was cheap away!

Simply the WORST service (or should I say LACK OF SERVICE / RESPONSE) I have ever withnessed or experienced in my entire life and I have been in the service industry for nearly 50 years. Purchase ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from Simply Electronics as they do nothing for you. I had to return a Nikon Camera for repair in May. Still not received back and cannot get any answers. They will not answer email, they will not give you info on the phone, they will not allow you to talk to a manager, and managers will simply not call back when requested (no matter how often it is requested or how awful the service is). I have spent many many hours trying to get my camera back and trying to get info on it. Please spread this word around. I wouldn't wish this company on my worst enemy. Regards, Leon David.
PS. Does anyone have any contact name in there please with an email address and Direct line in please

LeonDavid, "Vanessa"? from SIMPLY ELECTRONICS just became a member of the Money Saving Expert.Com forum on 22/08/12. She has posted on thread, "Simply Electronics- WARNING, offering her assistance to customers who may have any concerns regarding orders. Asks for a PRIVATE MESSAGE to be sent!!
SE have had my money for over 6 weeks now for an order I cancelled on 12/07/12. I contacted KwikChex to ask for their assistance in securing a refund. Last email I had from KwikChex said SE had informed them a refund had been issued to me on 21/08/12.
Strangely, I have had an e mail from SE since then (on 22nd Aug) saying my refund is still in process and I will receive an e mail notification from them when it has been "completely processed".
Needless to say, no e mail notification and no refund yet!!
Odd thing is the money was transferred SO quickly when I placed the order on 12th July @ 3PM. When I phoned to cancel the order 6 hours later I was told payment had already been taken and would have to wait 7 days on a refund! Little did I know I'd still be waiting more than 6 weeks on.
For anyone thinking of contacting Moneybookers for assistance, in my experience they were a waste of time. They did not respond to my e mail for days, conveniently AFTER the money for the cancelled order was transferred to SE and they were able to wash their hands of it!
Going down the list, the next obvious port of call was Watchdog but no response there either which was very disappointing.
At the minute it looks like KwikChex are the best bet if you need a refund, but do wonder how long that will last as SE are surely more trouble than they're worth? Not quite sure what KwikChex have to gain through their association with SE?
It is very time consuming filing complaints against this awful company and something I don't normally do, but for this lot an exception just had to be made!

We bought 2 iPad3 tablets from simply electronics without reading the reviews and after reading the reviews we got very worried indeed. For a couple of days after we placed the order we went to our order history and there was nothing there. This worried us even more. Obviously, things weren't going great... But then things made a turn for the better! We checked the website again and the order showed up as 'processed'... And then sure enough the order turned up within the time that was estimated for our delivery when we first placed the order, which was 3-8 working days. I felt the need to write this review to re assure others who have ordered things from simply electronics and them read the reviews and is now worried... As I was just searching and searching for a good review to re assure myself when I was in your situation. Well search no more! Oh and I am indeed writing this review on my ipad3 right now. :)

Great news flu you have joined a very elite group, you probably now realise there are very few positives posted because there is NOT a lot of positive news when it comes to buying from Simply Electronics. Your worries should NOT be over, people have often posted of 'Grey' stock which is non CE marked and therefore will NOT be touched in UK for repairs etc under a warrant which of course has been removed and a very dubious self guarantee put in its place. Hopefully your goods are not counterfeit or secondhand. If you had any empathy with the hundreds of people who are going through hell trying to get refunds or repairs etc from this awful Hong Kong company you could have at least acknowledged them with 'sorry you are having such a dreadful experience' Your Positive comes across as a very 'false positive' designed more to try and counter balance the negatives posted here and on amazon from very disgruntled customers
    bigballs2
Thanks for all the comments, I was considering using this company but I sure wont be now!
    Tuljo
First, many thanks to EOS1D for addresses and numbers, see his comment #421 ten posts ago.

I'm not going to describe my experience with SimplyElectronics here, it repeats your sad stories above -

money paid, no stuff, no refund.

Just 2 days delayed canned emails asking to wait and be patient.

The lesson is - don't be miserly, pay £20 more and receive your stuff from Amazon the next day.

And now, I'll go again and proceed banging about the SimplyElectronics all over the places...

    Cheers,
    Tuljo
