Simply Electronics - A Warning !!!

HumphmanHumphman

I recently ordered a digital camera from the above company, as having done quite a bit of searching, they came out the cheapest. Well after waiting 3 weeks for a 2-8 day despatch, I cancelled it and was assured of a refund within 7 days, 6 weeks later I'm still fighting for it, and am sending all the details to my solicitor. Be warned, never ever use this cowboy outfit, they make all the right noises but do not deliver - literally !!
p.s. Ordered same camera on Amazon and got it next day !!!!

SE are SLOW they are POOR they sell 'GREY' goods they send 'DAMAGED' goods, they 'DELAY', they send email after email BUT after enough complaints they do 'REFUND' So start complaining through emails so it does not 'COST' you more money and take the fight to them. Here is a few places to start. DO NOT be put off by them or use of Debit cards etc get your bank involved or the company dealing with your card and write to everyone here copy and paste the same letter but take action is only way to get 'REFUNDS'

I just spent 30 minutes on the phone to simply electronics and their customer service told me nothing is leaving their warehouse and not to order anything else from them.

    VERY SUSPICIOUS TO ME!

I ordered for a tablet for a birthday present so this is very disappointing for me.

    Can anyone offer any help?

I have just sent the following email to watchdog which is watchdog@bbc.co.uk I obtained the address from AMAZON before they deleted a posting giving it, now this is not the first time AMAZON have deleted helpful advice and support needed by disgruntled customers. Maybe Nailez or someone else with good psychic or hindsight qualities can assist as to why? Hotukdeals have never deleted them and the list below can also be found above on this forum

"I would like to further add to the emails you have received regarding a Hong Kong company called Simply Electronics.net
Who advertise on the internet and have since 2008 ignored hundreds of reuests to improve their customer service and duty of care. They have repeatedly sold 'grey' stock openly though Ebay and Amazon, companies who have done nothing to stop this rogue trader from selling to innocent customers via the Ebay and Amazon web sites.

The same excuses can be seen over and over again since 2008 concerning money taken from accounts with items saying in stock, these items have often never appeared, are damaged, have been found to be second hand and even have been found to be counterfeit with Canon refusing to repair and the Hong Kong police involved. The post that refer to these complaints can be widely seen on Amazon at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Reviews-of-Simply-Electronics/forum/Fx2L8YAWZTSCQUK/Tx2JDL36I8HDYBS/25/ref=cm_cd_et_up_redir?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B00065GZL2&newContentID=Mx3N8PZ

or http://simplyelectronicsnot.webs.com/ a web site created by myself to help others who find themselves being misled, mis-sold or mis-informed by Simply Electronics.

It is very difficult to know just exactly what SE are up to on the net but fact1 is they take money for goods immediately from a customers account. fact2 the item is listed in stock and often remains in stock throughout the complaint period. fact3 people are kept waiting in long queues for phone calls to SE costing a lot more money! fact4 people have to wait way beyond the statutory 28 days for giving refunds, in some cases months. fact5 people are often told goods were found damage and so were not sent out, often they were last on shelf! fact6 people have often written about receiving 'grey' stock non CE marked goods which have NO warranty in UK. etc etc

Amazon still permits SE to sell on the Amazon marketplace even after all the negative feedback, SE has been complained almost daily on one of the above complaint forum/sites, Amazon recently deleted several posts written to help the people who were in great distress about loosing money etc this was the post: deleted by Amazon

PLEASE PLEASE can you look into why this company is allowed to operate using UK addresses even though it escapes UK and European laws by registering in Hong Kong. FOUR years of complaints about the same kind of grievance shows they are doing it intentionally and deliberately, the question is WHY? how do they make money from it? Several people have said illegal activity took place on their card AFTER dealing with SE. Maybe this is why even after taking your money they will ask for driving licence passport or utility copies!! My bank said NO I got my £2200 back after 28 days many others are not so lucky or understand the need to complain complain complain

    Hi All

Just keeping you updated sorry its long but this is what has happened in just a few days:

    Hi

Thanks for your reply as below, I was just reading the explanation of the delivery system and must say I have never heard of anything like this
before, why do they just not say 12 days delivery (Probably because they know people would not order!! In the UK delivery time is either next day or with 3 days, you said that therefore delivery was not due until the 14 August 2012 well sorry this is not what is said in there advert, also why then have all these people on the forum having problems, yes you may not have had many complaints
But simply electronics have, I did some research and this is how I got your contact details, others do not know how.

Anyway I look forward to the refund, again why is this taking so long surely it should be returned with immediate effect,
As I paid on the 30 July 2012, they took the money out on the 1 August 2012

I am not getting at you as you are doing a good job by simply electronics have caused all these problems.

    Thanks Anna

Subject: Re: KwikChex Resolutions - order Order 546918-840993

    Dear Anna,

Thank you for your e-mail below and comments regarding Simply Electronics. We do appreciate feedback customers give us and incorporate this into our regular performance reviews with Simply Electronics.

    With regards to delivery timeframes:

The statement Simply Electronics use: ‘expected to be shipped within
2-4 working days and delivered within 3-8 working days.' In fact this means 2-4 working days for dispatch PLUS 3-8 working days for delivery - which makes a maximum of 12 working days for delivery.

So this takes us to 14th August for your order. We understand this is not clear and will be asking Simply Electronics to change their phraseology. But therefore please bear in mind your order was processing with standard time frames.

However, at your request Simply Electronics have cancelled your order and we will be in touch again as soon as Simply Electronics have confirmed that your refund has been paid.

    Kind regards,
    Loren, KwikChex Team

    Hi
Thanks for your reply, so you are saying all the people on the forum are tell lies that they have not received the goods have you looked closely at the dates when put on the forum.

They have not complied they quote delivery of 2-4 days I have looked on their website they have 10 in stock again quoting 2-4 days delivery.

For you to say you have few complaints is a joke

Anyway I have e-mailed them again saying that I had sent an e-mail to CANCEL the order, due to delivery and require a FULL REFUND IMMEDIATELY, I no longer want to buy anything from this company

    Thanks Anna

    Hi Anna,

    Thanks for contacting KwikChex.

Our role is to verify the standards of businesses and to assist consumers by providing additional assistance when required. The purpose of both our Proof of Quality resources and the reason we post on selected forums is to inform consumers that these resources are in place and to enable them to contact us - as you have done.

We have monitored Simply Electronics since they applied for accreditation. Comparative to the number of orders Simply Electronics fulfils every day we have had few complaints, but all those that are received have our immediate attention and our prioritised. They have, however had some service issues and we are helping them with these. They have also completely complied with our terms and conditions, which include a fast response and resolution to any cases we report to them and adherence to UK consumer laws.

I am sure you are also aware that online forums and so called review sites, through their lack of authentication, enable abuse and fraud and carry substantial quantities of fake reviews in the case of Simply Electronics we have already traced some such examples to rogue competitors.

As a customer of Simply Electronics, then the most important thing is to help you resolve the issues you have faced. We will immediately take up your case. On average we are able to reach a resolution within 7 working days. As you have provided your order number etc we currently have everything we need and will be in touch when we have further news.

Hi Vanessa - I have sent you a PM.

    James

Be very careful to identify who you are talking to and do not disclose additional details that you would expect the company to already hold. Many times, a second wave of scammers operate by appearing to help people already in distress from an initial scam. So instead of processing a refund, they just take more money from you! (note that I am accusing simply electronics or this vanessa nessa of being scammers s rs. )..

    Agreed.

Avoid simplyelectronics. They sell foreign imports that don't qualify for proper manufacturer's warranties. I've set up a twitter account called @avoid_SE to allow people to share their experiences of shopping with simplyelectronics on twttier.

I recently placed an order with Simply Electronics for a digital camera.Goods were shown as "in stock" delivery 2-8 days.
Forget it,after several E,mails threatening legal action,I received my camera.it took 30 days exactly, the only thing i will say in their defence, was that they told me they would upgrade my order to "Express Delivery " via DHL.They actually did this, goods were shipped from Hong Kong on Tuesday 08/08/2012 and were received at 10.00 on Wednesday 09/08/2012.Pretty impressive.
But having said that,i think i have been lucky and would not recommend anyone using them,i did notice that they have changed their address again which speaks volumes.Regards john

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!!

I placed an order for a camera which was due to be dispatched within 2-4 days. The company was not able to keep to their promise which meant I had to go without a camera for a family member's wedding. I tried on numerous occasions to call them and found their customer phone line to have unacceptable queuing times - more than an hour - every time I called.

I finally asked for a refund via email and they failed to respond which meant I had to queue on their phone line and and speak to their customer service team. I am now waiting for the refund to be processed and hoping that it will go through in the time scale they have promised but I won't be holding my breath!

Interesting point - when I called their Sales Team I managed to speak to someone straight away - no waiting time - although they would not help me and said I had to speak to Customer Services.

If you want to receive your order on time I recommend paying a little extra and buying from another company.

SE are the WORST company going, 27 days, eleven e-mails and I'm still £975 down. I don't know that I hold much hope of getting it back.

Currently I've contacted the Hong Kong consumer council, The Daily Mail and Watchdog. I'll be on the phone to my bank and VISA first thing Monday morning to see what they can do about getting me my money back.
    kathandy
Totally agree Kalavere, for me 29 days ongoing nightmare, almost £600 down, countless e-mails to SE, KwikChex etc.
But no way will I give up until I'm refunded, won't stop complaining, posting on review sites such as this, something I've never done before in my life. But then I've never had a worse shopping experience in my life!!
Sad that this company have been getting away with holding onto innocent consumers money for years now, yet the only people that seem to be taking any action, are other victims like ourselves
So looks as though all we can do is COMPLAIN COMPLAIN COMPLAIN and keep on complaining until someone somewhere listens!
    Bravepants
Oh dear! I ordered a Panasonic camcorder last week, only £149, but i only realised it was a Hong Kong based company when the DHL tracking page indicated it! Mind you, I have a DHL tracking number, I assume then that it's on it's way right? Or has anyone any experience of having a tracking number and yet their item still didn't show up?
    kathandy
Your item may well be on its way bravepants but you could find yourself with a grey market import if/when it does arrive. Sorry to sound negative but can only judge from my own experience! My goods did turn up but were poorly packed and contained no manufacturers warranty. The manufacturers have confirmed i've received a grey market import, not intended for sale in this country. I took photographic and video evidence before returning the goods to simply electronics and have backed up all correspondence, including tracking return of parcel so I have evidence it was returned and signed for. I would not have gone anywhere near this company either had I known they were Hong Kong based. Their website is intentionally deceptive so something really needs to nee
    edge360
I know other people have had bad experiences with them but I ordered a 7D about 2 years ago and didn't really have a problem. Took them about a week to deliver. Package came, great condition. Seems to be hit and miss then.
    kathandy
Unfortunately the majority seem to misses! And for those of us that are spending Weeks, if not months fighting to get back our cash returned from this dreadful company, its an anxiety filled experience, one that we should not have to tolerate. Admittedly simply electronics do seem to be able to deliver promptly enough from time to time. Mine was actually delivered in 5 days!!
Problem was it was 5 days after cancellation and despite numerous emails requesting them not to deliver canceled goods they went ahead, saying goods were dispatched before they got my cancellation email. Quite hard to believe as the status of my order did not change from new to packing until 2days after cancellation...strange!!
But, yes they do fulfil just enough to get the occasional positive amongst all the negatives
