Simply Electronics - A Warning !!!

I recently ordered a digital camera from the above company, as having done quite a bit of searching, they came out the cheapest. Well after waiting 3 weeks for a 2-8 day despatch, I cancelled it and was assured of a refund within 7 days, 6 weeks later I'm still fighting for it, and am sending all the details to my solicitor. Be warned, never ever use this cowboy outfit, they make all the right noises but do not deliver - literally !!
p.s. Ordered same camera on Amazon and got it next day !!!!

    I ordered a Canon EOD 550D with 18 - 135mm IS lens on 31/05/11. On SE website my order had not changed from NEW for 3 days so I emailed them to mention this and also asked then when my item will be shiped (7 in stock on SE website when I ordered - and I paid in full instantly with PayPal). Recieved an email back stating that they try to ship out as soon as possible but could not be exact or definitive as to delivery in their reply. I then did some research by googling Simply Electronics Reviews and quite frankly I was shocked and horrified with what I found. I emailed SE and cancelled my order and requested a refund right away. As soon as I mentioned the refund word, my emails were unanswered - just the generic, thank you - here is your reference number and someone will contact you in one working day! Becoming more fraught at the prospect of being scammed, on 06/06/11 I opened a PayPal dispute in an attempt to have the transaction reversed, and much to my surprise by the next day 07/06/11 I recieved the refund in full !!! Strangely enough and I dont know if this is co-incidence, but their website has been offline for the last six hours too! Im just very grateful for the refund, and I wish you all good luck too if you have been less than fortunate so far.

    I can only confirm what other people are saying about Simply Electronics. I ordered an Olympus 70-300 lens, the payment was taken out within 48 hours, and then almost immediately I got an email saying their shipment was damaged. (sound familiar?). I told them I did not want any other lens and would like a refund. It has taken the best part of 6 weeks to get this refund after daily emails to them and countless excuses. This company should not be allowed to keep trading and keep making people miserable. They are a disgrace! If you are thinking of buying from this company, please heed all the warnings on the net.

    I was worried after I ordered 3 Sonos s5 zone players and paid by debit card. Shortly afterwards, I found some of these reviews online and was very concerned. Even though the website said they were in stock and they despatch within 2 - 5 days, there was no movement on my order status from "new" for 10 days. I exchanged emails multiple times but was basically fobbed off.

    However,in the end, I kept my nerve and the order was despatched an delivered - I received it after 2 weeks from the order date.

    I saved £150 on the next closest price by going with Simplyelectonics - but they like to make you sweat...

    I bought a faulty Marantz SR7005 AV receiver with them. I am trying to get support and they just don't respond to me and even manage to completely leave my phone calls unanswered. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE CONS - if you are lucky they ship you a product that works, but in my case unfortunately I have lost £ 1,100. Forward this message as I want the company to go down: it will be a personal crusade for me to make it happen. Most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with, dodgy as f*$%!

    Be careful - be very careful!! I ordered a Sony DSC HX9V camera one Saturday evening two weeks when a little rushed so didn't do enough researching at the time. I had a nagging doubt in my mind that night so decided to cancel the order the next day (Sunday) when I found the camera only £20 more and in stock at local Comet (£300 vs £280, but ended up getting £10 discsount from Comet anyway by asking!!). I called Simplyelectronics up to cancel and was told to e-mail them as the order wouldn't be processed until the Monday anyway so should be fine - no charge and therefore no refund required. Was charged anyway on the Monday. Got e-mails back confirming they received my cancellation e-mail, nothing else so rang them. On hold for 40mins then spoke to someone who said would deal with it and send another e-mail, so did and got another response e-mail confirming receipt. Still no refund days later so called and e-mailed again several times and promised again would get a refund. 2 weeks later, no refund and obviosuly no camera (as don't want it) so contacted credit card company who said had had other similar calls that very evening from other customers saying the very same thing. CC company will refund me so no worries - always use your credit card!! Don't risk it from Simplyelectronics - I'm sure some of the time they are fine, but not worth the risk!!!

    Just placed an order (Friday) with Simply Electronics, a Cannon 550d, no email confrimation and now reading all these reports I am contacting my credit company. I will re-post my progress, I have asked for a DHL tracker number within 24hrs from Simply, if these postings are anything to go by, I will not waste time contacting their support line with any more questions... wished I had read these earlier !!!!!

    Well, I need to add to this posting.. shortly after posting this email and contacting Simply Electronics I was contacted by Vanessa Carroll (Customer Services Manager). She dealt with my concerns immediately, kept me posted of my orders progress and I have now just received my Cannon 550d. This was ordered late Friday afternoon 1st July, showed on my S.E. account on Monday 4th July, went from New, to Packing and was was posted out on Wednesday 5th July, arriving before 3pm on Thursday.. I explained my concerns to Vanessa and she kept me posted by email at every stage, very pleased with the final result....

    Used this company twice over the last year or so and no problems either time. Just thought it fair to give a little balance to all this. It sure seems they are not great at customer service and sometimes they may be extremely bad at it, but they are not a scam site. They can save you a lot of money compared to mainstream sites. Do you expect them to be able to achieve these prices and still deliver Amazon levels of customer service? If you pay by credit card you are fully protected anyway and their eBay reviews are not at all bad.

    Glad you got your money back eventually. It proves it is a scam when we both have had identical experiences

    I stupidly rushed into buying a camera from this company tonight, having found their website via a price comparison search engine.
    After I got a really badly formatted confirmation of order email, which mentioned an order number but not the item or the price, description, etc, my suspicions were aroused. So I called the customer service number and actually got through pretty quickly. I asked to cancel my order and was told to send an email.
    The very distant and foreign sounding lady assured me the company was in the uk - so
    I asked for the address. The address she gave me is;

    Innovation Centre
    St Cross Business Park
    Monks Brook
    Newport
    Isle of Wight
    PO30 5WB

    I googled that and it turns out it's some Isle of Wight council economic partnership building. It's listed on the IoW website here; http://www.iwight.com/council/publicservices/servicedetail.aspx?servid=1691 .
    And the website also lists a phone number for the building - 01983 550300 .
    I'll be ringing them first thing tomorrow to ask to speak to Simplyelectronics to enquire whether the item I ordered is in stock and when they'll be sending it, or to complain to the council if there is nobody home. I'd suggest others experiencing similar issues might want to do the same.
    If these guys are cowboys, it's unlikely the IoW council will take kindly to hearing that their tenants/business partners are ripping people off...

    Glad to see you didn't have any problems with them, but actually I expect every company I deal with and buy from to have good levels of customer service etiquette, if not then like this lot their reputation will take a hammering.
