Some things just don't look quite right.

I am a strong believer in live and let live, so struggling with my instinctive view of this story in the news this week. Attending a same sex family wedding this year and hold no homophobic prejudice, and have no issues whatsoever with relationships with a significant age gap if both parties are happy. Just find this union yesterday rather 'eewww' and not entirely sure why. Is it the images printed this week, or a slightly uncomfortable feeling that it somehow just doesn't look right?

Goes without saying that I hope this leads to a happy life for them both. So not seeking a series of homophobic or ageist posts, but interested to know if others can better reflect on my negative instinct.

P.S. Apologies to other members for the off topic comments, and support for off topic comments below. It is clear that some people are choosing to re visit old issues of their own that have no relevance. Was reading online newspapers last night, and this event has been fairly heavily covered all week. That is the context and motivation for this post, nothing controversial.

Why not! If you could have your pick at Stephen's age I'm sure you would! Noone said Hugh Hefner was wrong, they all congratulated him!! Hope they're happy.

Although you introduced the word 'judge' hopefully my contribution simply sought non prejudiced opinions on a topical story, which is what I thought Misc was all about. Night anyway.

You're obviously just upset that I wouldn't play your silly game in PM on Thursday, and you're going to be childish about it and pick at me whenever possible. Here's a tip for you.. if you don't want people to find out that you're sending silly PM's, don't send them to people that you hardly know, and don't try and get all serious and cause drama on a shopping sites forum.

    Night

It could be true love or it could be two people bringing different things to the table that when combined bring them both great happiness.

Stephen offers wisdom, a great wit, intellect, life experiences and is no doubt an interesting man to spend time with.

Elliot brings youth and vitality and no doubt Stephen finds him invigorating and exciting.

I hope Stephen has found lasting love and happiness.

I suppose it does look odd they do look like father and son but it is always like this with such an age gap, SF is no looker but I can imagin its easy to fall for a very inteligent and funny guy like him, age is often a state of mind, I have always appeared older than my friends, in my 20's they all used to say I acted like I was in my 40's.

at 27 his partner is a man and should by then know his own mind, it is strange tho the hue heff thing he is 50+ yrs older than most of the girls he has, most ppl say good on him.

I say good luck to them both I hope it is real and lasts

Exactly - and whilst it was all tongue in cheek, deeky never asked for it anyway, so not really sure what the point is in picking fights with him over it. Unless you're just here to pick fights of course, which seems to be the case for some.

The guy is 27 apparently, he looks a lot younger though, which doesn't help I guess. Stephen Fry is 57. I don't know, part of me thinks that at 27 years old he knows his own mind and it's not as if he's some 18 year old being lead astray. Part of me thinks that a 30 year age gap is just too big.

Who are we to judge though? I just hope they're very happy together

Not sure everyone feels so positive about someone like Hugh Hefner and 20 year old girls. Yes of course there are examples which are mutually beneficial and hopefully happy, but they can still leave the detached observer uncomfortable with certain aspects.

Stephen is a very intelligent man, so good luck to the young boy he'll certainly learn a thing or 2 from him.

Age gap is big but as said above the young one at 27 can make his own mind up without a problem.
