Very.co.uk "Credit Rejected" order status :(

Just bought a laptop off Very.co.uk using the "Buy now pay later" offer and the order status changed to "Credit Rejected".

I phoned them asking what this means and they said that I didn't fail the credit check (like the order status "Credit Rejected" suggests) but I failed the security check based on the details I gave when I registered.

The details I gave were all correct so when I asked what's wrong with the details she said they are unable to say. This makes no sense to me at all.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is there anything I can do?

Maybe you gave wrong password or something, If you don't give them exactly what they'er looking they'll refuse you

This happended to me a couple of times with santander on the phone, they are sooooooooo strict, including knowing last 3 purchases and exact amounts they were, and your balance with 5-10%, Also dates any monies go in and the amounts for a joint account with lots of transactions ( inc monthly child benefit etc) this can be difficult. I learnt the hard way and get a mini statement before i phone now. Even though i could give them dates / amounts of other transactions it wasn't good enough, As they asked specific ones.

Ask the Nigerian guy who's ruined your credit rating

Might be worth signing up for a free trial of Credit Expert to make sure nothing looks dodgy on there

I got £500 credit from Very 2 years ago (I was skint at the time), ordered clothes and shoes . After a few months I noticed I had't received any bills from them. Logged onto my on-line account, balance was £0 with no purchase history oO Thanks very much Very...

Their security is awful, a chicken could probably get credit with them

Aha, yeah. Seems like I'll have to! :pJust thought it was weird that they … Aha, yeah. Seems like I'll have to! :pJust thought it was weird that they aren't able to tell me why I failed the security check.

Because of fraud, where i work and people call up to ask why the order has been cancelled all we can tell them its failed internal security checks and to ensure all the details given are correct. We can never tell them anything else because if they are a fraudster they will know how to best put the order though.

Same thing has happened to me but I paid by credit card????
When calling them they just said that I failed their internal security checks and would not tell me why.
It is however VERY funny that anywhere else I tried to get this same laptop they were either out of stock or discontinued, Very were the only company that I could find with this in stock, I can only assume that they never had the lap top to sell in the first place

If you can't get a Very account, you've pretty much failed at life.

They give out credit to everyone. I know someone who has like 20 missed payments and got £600 credit.

When I was 18 I got £500, now I got over 3 grand. But then again I am 2.7k in debt with them now lol, so I guess you can take it a blessing in disguise. Everything they have is overpriced anyways.

No one is going to tell you how or why you failed a security check - otherwise you'll try again and try to find a way around it :P

That's true. Just annoying when you know there's nothing wrong, yet they still won't allow you to purchase anything.

Are you already an account holder with them???? Maybe the item was for more than the amount they would allow you credit? I finmd them quite expensive anyway so you may get it cheaper elsewhere.

I got this exact message today!
Got this email telling them to phone them so I did and she asked my order number, and then she asked why I was calling I said because of this email and then she confirmed my name, address and date of birth and then she said it was because I had asked it to go to another address on my first order and then she put it through

Oh. Maybe I'll get an email from them then. How long did it take to receive the email after you ordered? I haven't got anything from them yet about the order, so if I hadn't checked the order status manually I would still be assuming it was coming!

    Haha. They do seem crap.
When I phoned them the "security" woman was super rude. Basically told me that was that. Goodbye.

And thanks InfinityLoop! Guess I'll wait till tomorrow then and see if I get an email from them.

Yeah, if a million people get credit and then, have phone up because there's an urgent problem on the account, that's a million 5ps per minute...

I have just opened a very account yesterday been accepted for £300 credit and placed my order and i get a email this morning saying i need to phone because the order hasnt been processed and they need to ask me questions anyone know what these are?

I have had a similar problem this morning. I opened my very account yesterday, was given a £1000 credit limit and ordered a camera on 6 months BNPL. I got an email this morning asking me to contact which I did. I was told I'd given my address details wrong, I've lived here for 4 years and apparently I put 11. (Sure I didn't like)
I rectified details and have been told to order. Now worried it won't go through again due to everything I've read.

Their system is a heap of ****. I phoned them twice within a week and had the same excuse - you've been accepted for a credit account but it doesn't appear to register on our system, could you phone back tomorrow. After the second attempt I simply gave up. Probably a blessing in disguise

There are two types of checks companies usually do. A credit check and a customer due diligence check.
This checks that the details you have provided are correct by checking to see if they match against the fords stored by other companies like dvla, electoral registration, banks, phones, insurance etc. if you have changed your name by getting married, moved house or given a shortened version of a name e.g jim instead of James. They usually do this through companies like experian who will just give a score on different matches. If the score doesn't match heir requirement then you will get rejected. Very won't know why you didn't match, only that the score wasn't good enough. Check to see if you used any details that were different to other recent accounts you have.

Some companies also have in place a system that if they make a CC and that is closed, it is automatically included as failed Credit in any future CC with them.

EG, You wish to have new landline installed and you allow them to carry out a CC, that company cannot do the work due to their offer being finished and they agree to cancel that. You apply again on the next offer, however the first CC is also included and classed as bad credit on your second CC.

If I wanted to I could pay off the 2.7k right now. But whats the point when it's interest free credit.

I've had Very and Littlewoods accounts for years, rarely use them.. Only when a discount code comes up, as some stuff you can buy cheaper with a discount code than elsewhere (such as iPads), also 12 months interest free is handy.

At one point i had around £12,000 credit split between the two, despite the fact i made 1 order a year at most. It's gone down now (No longer use Littlewoods due to pricing) but recent limit is still pretty high on Very, Amazes me how much they're willing to give considering what they charge in interest.

Applied for Very Acc, got £1k credit. Ordered laptop & baby bouncer then it said credit rejected with nil balances but delivery dates given. Does this mean I'll still get goods with option to pay over 3 months instead of BNPL? Help guys!
