I decided to sell some pristine children's clothes and things like once-used handbags, accessories and household items. They were all in fantastic condition and my two teenagers offered to help me.
When we had to get up at an ungodly hour on a cold, dark Sunday morning they had a rapid change of heart so I ended up going myself. It cost more than I thought to get in, I (as a newbie) was given a pitch right at the back and was in between 2 professional car-booters.
I was besieged by large families whose only grasp of the English language was to ask for everything for 10p, which I refused to sell for. My clothes rail collapsed and broke, I couldn't leave my stall to go to the loo, I couldn't even get a coffee (after not having time for breakfast), I was frozen, and I ended up coming home with almost as much as I took.

Cost; £12 entry, plus petrol, plus cost of washing and ironing everything before boot sale.
Sales; £5.50
Lost; £6.50 plus, as well as more petrol to take everything to the charity shop the following day!

Not my finest hour...

That's what my other half said...I'm loathe to do that, they cost me a fortune when I bought them new! I'm sure there are kids out there who don't have anything like this, just wish I knew somebody who could use.

The one I checked was a small local charity, I don't know about the national ones.

Wait for a free listing weekend on Ebay (should be next weekend) put everything up for £1 collection only (specify it must be collection only and you will not be around if the buyer wants to use their own courier). You may not make anything but it should save you the hassle of running around trying to get rid of them. Every charity shop i know do not take VHS because there just isn't the money for the space they take.

My one and only attempt at doing a car boot sale was a total disaster! I think I did it all wrong because I ended up cold, tired, hungry, desperate to go to the loo, and also out of pocket!
I have total admiration for those who succeed at boot sales - don't know if I would be brave enough to try again...oO

charging too much by the sounds of it, at car boot everything is between £1 - £10 and at the end of the day you really cut your prices.

our local womens hostel for teenage mums was very happy when we dropped ours off, dvds get stolen, videos dont!!

I would say your local freecycle too. Videos always seem to go quickly on mine too, and you know they're going to a good new home.

If you're based in Edinburgh, I've a friend who'd happily take them off your hands. He steadfastly refuses to join the modern world of PVRs, so he still records everything to VHS, and he records that much that (he's kinda OCD) he's constantly running short. If you are around Edinburgh, drop me a PM and we could maybe get something arranged.

mine all went on freegle we have a few people locally who have a video and no dvd player so still use them x

they may be worth something but in fifty years £20 is going to be worth even less than it is now so no in real terms i doubt it

Hospitals definitely would not take anything like this. Majority of kids have their own gadgets / computers and for those that don't, computer equipment is locked but available most of the time.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, hopefully I will find a good home for them - I couldn't bear to send Cinderella, Bambi and all the rest to a certain death at the dump...:p
