I was really lucky and picked up one of these from ebay for under £10
but so far I haven't been able to use it. The requirements are so specific - for example your computer needs an Intel wireless card so even the latest Apples with Haswell won't work with it as they use Broadcom or something for their wireless

Just make sure whatever device you want to use works with this (for a PC that means downloading the Intel WiDi software from the intel website)
But the latest android TV devices also support WIDI and can be had for a little more (but do a LOT more!)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/JUSTOP-Streamer-Internet-Play---Great-Watching/dp/B006O8O2ME/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1384438594&sr=8-6&keywords=android+tv+4.2#productDescription

NB Latest Widi spec now supports Miracast, hence the Android option (which also supports Miracast at 4.2 and above)

Wouldn't buy anything from these cowboys! Sent a message through their website about price match on Saturday (16/11/13) night. As of yet no reply about price match. Contacted the sales telephone number today (19/11/2013) about price match, they will only price match the TV from competitor for £349 but would not offer anything as advertised here.. Your text here and no delivery, just collection.

Pretty much pants really.
Contacted John Lewis they priced match for £349 and offered FREE delivery + 5 years guarantee!
Thanks to OP. Picked up a customer return at RS Cheltenham. One adapter cable missing but otherwise as new.

Can;t recommend Giotec enough, and Asda still have the range on offer.. Only irritation is the dongle, and the fact that you can;t turn the console on with them.. Aside from that though, they're actually better made than the original PS3 controllers..
Oh afterglow are meant to be good aswell
Giotek are good when it comes to 3rd Party stuff and sometimes Madcatz, but I was surprised to see Sainsburys selling Orb accessories.
hotfinder
Wow. It's actually in my store but looks like a cheap ps2 controller game used to sell. Hate the dpad on it. I suppose you get warranty with Sainsburys though if it's not up to scratch. Hot

Which store? I actually quite like the dpad - more like a thumbstick than the DS3's and feels more precise to me. YMMV though
MoneyEyes
Saw this earlier, not a good price at all, ORB accessories are awful, Blockbuster used to sell them all the time.

That doesn't sound good - In your personal experience how long do the ORB controllers last? Which third-party controllers would you recommend?

Go for SAMSUNG LED.
At the moment SAMSUNG panels are top notch (LED series).

Sony and Panasonic they have some motion blur in common their new range of 2013 TVs.
Sony has to be the worse by far for motion blur.

For Plasma Panasonic.

These are made in Turkey by the same people who make Finlux TV’s and supermarket TV’s such as Technika etc.
This is cheap-ish but I would save up my pennies and buy a branded TV as these are very poorly made and never last.
Agreeing with others on this being a generic TV with a badge.
Swap the badge for one that says 'Digihome, Isis, Celcus, Techwood' or more truthfully Vestel and then decide if you still want it. Having a Hitachi sticker is almost as misleading as the Blaupunkt stuff in Sainsburys

Thanks for that. You might have solved why my old "Hitachi" branded Freeview PVR has always been a waste of space. I think it's Vestel rebadged as Hitachi. Seriously though, thanks ;O)
It's a good price for the spec but like others have said it's Hitachi in name only, same as smaller Toshibas (less than 40"). Personally I would rather pay more for a brand as have 50/50 experience on un-branded tv's. I bought a Pentus from Currys a few years ago. It only lasted 2 years and went bang although a 32" Bush I bought for my son 6 years ago is still going strong.

Also some tv's other than top names cannot be controlled with a sky remote. Most annoying. I took a LOGIK back to Currys for that reason alone. Always best to check before you buy.

Have you tried any other wireless router in the NIC/Ethernet port?

Here is a long list of "hey is my tv going to work" with the dongle, not sure if yours may be on it.

http://answers.argos.co.uk/answers/1493-en_gb/product/9094282/questions.htm

Seems to be a 2010 on issue with samsung, 2011/2012 work, led/lcd & some plasma's, but also seems to be down to what firmware the smart part is running.
Anyone can put it in their pc/laptop and tell us the chpset using a hardware info tool like hwinfo?

This way we could search for cheaper alternatives.

I have a EE 4G 3GB per month plan data seems good. I unlocked the dongle and switched to OVIVO data SIM which is 750mb per month free. EE is faster but the OVIVO is good on 3G. Also have some 1gb PAYG SIMs from Three there are £10 but you get £13 cahsback (Topcashback) do not top up just buy another. Unlock for Mifi was 99p on ebay.

A couple of notes

1) Data SIM provide faster access than Phone SIMs as there is no traffic shaping applied.
2) 4G seems very good in terms of speed, it was fast than my home broadband!
3) Its easy to blow through data on these high speed connections. Use the data limit feature on your phone / device (Android) to identify Wifi connections as unlimited or mobile. You can set data limits on the later. When I set up my Mifi with OVIVO I use a tablet that was Wifi only it started pulling down HD video and I used 721mb of by 750mb allowance in a few minutes!

Mobile data is really quite reliable and available even video and youtube works well. Some people have reported the use a SAMBA SIM and built up serveral gb credit for watching ads, Not tried SAMBA.

The £3 a month deal looks good if you want the 2 year contract
Got it but already had mobile broadband contract with EE- thanks
They're closed now - I will try in the morning.

Excellent deal if it works - thanks Rusty ;-)
Rusty, I would just give up! Great deal, very clearly put, unfortunately iced by those who cannot understand!

What address does the infinity start allocating IP addresses - 192.168.1.254

That looks odd. No IP addresses can be allocated at 192.168.1.254

e.g. The BT router could be 192.168.1.1 and start allocating at 192.168.1.2
or 192.168.1.78 and start allocating at 81 (leaving your pc at 79 and TP link at 80 untouched)
What's the BT router's IP address?

BT routers default at that ip - the other IP are static and assigned by me

192.168.1.254 is the HH default login

With DHCP server enabled the range is something you add eg on my 7800n I set 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.180 This means when a new IP address is leased to a device on my network it allocates the first device the IP of 192.168.1.100 and then next one 192.168.1.101

So make sure the range you set is higher than any other IP you want to assign to be static

I've not fully read what your attempting but Pick one for DHCP and NAT turn one into router only.

I've had 3 SIM's working using the above settings but I do purchase the 3 Month 3GB Mobile Broadband Data SIM's off Amazon for around the £12 mark,
Mine is talk 500 with AYCE, tethering isn't permitted but because my phone is rooted and has a custom ROM it seems to work, haven't done a lot of tethering though. My GF's is a One Plan sim with tethering permitted. Neither of the sim cards work in the MiFi device any further than the "Your SIM will only work in your phone" page.
"I have a talk plan with AYCE data which doesn't allow tethering, although it works if I try it" which sim is this? and this work in the mifi device... is this the £15 pound a month phone sim

I changed the APN from EE over to Three and then I could see "3 UK" displayed on the device, I can connect to it but just get the "Your SIM will only work in your phone" page.

I have a talk plan with AYCE data which doesn't allow tethering, although it works if I try it, but I also used my GF's sim which is on the One Plan which definitely does permit tethering. Neither sim card work for me!

UPDATE ...

just spoken to EE in an Irish call centre after getting the run around by Indian call centre

The discount code EESIM10 would have been automatically removed after 12 months because the systems saw this as a 12 month contract even though it was a rolling 30 day SIM only deal.

EE say the discount was removed in error - so in my case all over payments have been refunded and the discount code reapplied with no expiry date.

So for anyone with this deal - check your bills and if the discount code has been removed then call EE and they will sort it

hope this helps some people here

Hi all. Sorry to bring this thread alive again. Anyone who took advantage of this offer should CHECK THEIR BILL. I did today and my discount was not applied on my most recent bill. I was not informed of the change. I phoned up and after a lengthy conversation I was told that the offer was limited in time and had expired.

I was told I could reinstate the offer by signing up for twelve months, and was put through to the accounts department. I was then told that the plan was no longer available and that if this was a permanent offer I would have to take it up with customer services.

Faced with a three-way between myself and two basically inaccessible departments, I immediately cancelled my service. It was hard enough getting as far as I did.

So I thought I'd drop in here in case anybody else is in the same boat.

yep mine has gone up to £20.99 to on my bank statememt

and just leaving for a weeks business trip so do not have all teh screen grabs with me - will be on chat with them on friday

any ideas of any other deals - this is my father's only internet access but at 21 per month is reather steep, but he has no land line

You can buy an EE 6GB PAYG SIM card that lasts for 90 days from Amazon. Might suit someone who doesn't use the internet too much.

Bluetooth
Did not work untill I plugged the USB stick in the PCs rear motherboard USB connection.
Just thought I'd add this. The drivers supplied on the disc has compatibility issues with Windows 7 (Bluetooth stack), but you can get updated software and drivers from here:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/?page=download-toshiba

The device itself, is just a rebranded Toshiba Bluetooth USB device.

its probably a dual core RK3066 ... you can prob get both items for £50 incl postage if you shop around ... or you can take a chance on dodging import duty(VAT)/handling fee and get one for less from china (not worth it for such a small diff IMHO)

They should probably be retailing this (remember its a high street store) for about £80 to be a fair price

Incidentally the best mouse/kb device I've used is the mele air mouse/kb .. really nice device

Personally I would go for one of the quad core imx6 devices (£80 if you shop around) as Linux is supported by freescale (maker of the SOC's inside) unlike these crappy Chinese SOC's which (and to be fair to them its all they are meant to do) only support android properly and use a hacked up hotch potch to support Linux and the likes of xmbc (not usually natively but as an addin to android)
ouch!
ridiculously overpriced at a hundred quid. you can get better specs brand new on ebay for half that. add in the air mouse and you're still at least £30-£40 quid cheaper.

I ordered a 3A psu
I have no issues with my 5V 2A rated PSU shipped with the item. It has standard UK mains pin configuration.
There are a number of UK sellers on the bay that are advertising 5V 2A supplies for the MK808 from under £5.50 delivered, and these should also be suitable for the 809.
Random examples below; there may be others.
If you want complete confidence, maybe ask the seller a question first to see if they agree that also 100% suitable for your 809.
Be realistic: if you are overclocking or have some other power-hungry device plugged into your stick that doesn't have it's own power supply, you may need more than a 2A supply.

A decent 5V 2A+ USB PSU is required if a user wants to achieve the best and most stable performance from these units. The OP Justop deal does not include a PSU, or at least a PSU is not mentioned in the "Package Include" itemisation.Same item complete with PSU can be secured ex-UK sellers via the bay:£38.30 delivered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321129984170£38.40 delivered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290918060243and others, or probably cheapest of the TRS':£41.99 delivered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221204296488

how much? just have UK version adapter?
I've been using one of these for a month or so now and it's a great stick on the whole.

Mine did come with a 5v 2.5amp PSU although this is not always the case, although they are cheap as chips to buy.

I did also pick up a decent little mains powered USB hub for less that a fiver.

There is a JB 4/2/2 Custom ROM (amongst many others) available over at FreakTab to play with. The ROM's for the measy and iMito MX1/MX2 are all compatible.

Although it states that it can run at up to 1.6GHz, there is no heatsink or cooling on these, so if you do run any custom ROM that overclocks to 1.6, make sure you get a heatsink.fan otherwise you will quickly burn it out. 1.2GHz is the safe alternative otherwise.

1080P ROM's don't really work that well as performance is rather laggy but the 720P ones work very well, although 1080P ROM's don't seem to work that well on any of the typical dual core sticks, so it's not a distinct disadvantage of this particular model.

Hardware accelerated versions of XBMC are available although always still being perfected for the Rockchip models.

HD (including much 1080P) video for the most part plays flawlessly whether via attached USB stick/drive, streaming over the internet or via local server. The only 1080P stuff that has given me problems is MKV.

WiFi on most Android TV sticks can be a little weak if your router is in another room, so an extender could be necessary in some cases.

The best solution, if available is a USB to ethernet adapter.

SD video streamed through TVcatchup and iPlayer etc is not as good as that seen on your TV over the airwaves but I am told that this is due to the bitrate that they use and seems therefore something that will be the same on all devices for the moment.

Quad core sticks are starting to hit the market now, so maybe these could be worth waiting for.

On the whole and for the price I paid bearing in mind that this is still technology in it's relatively early stages, I love it.

If you really want one now, I would highly recommend it for all that it can do.

We bought a 50 inch 3d Smart THOMSON in January 2013 from Auchan, we were going to buy a Samsung but saw the Thomson on offer for only 799e BIG MISTAKE!

The television did not pair with our Sony Bluray player, we dismissed this as we do not watch many films. In January of this year we treated ourselves to a 3d player. The first film we watched played half way then went blank. We contacted Thomson that advised us the TV needed an update. It still had the same problem. We were asked to take the TV back to Auchan. We did and the same happened. Off to Auchan again! Back came the TV, same problem. It would appear that there was a compatability problem with the 3d player (Even though we were told it would work by their sales staff).

Thomson then said they had the problem before. We needed to return the TV via courier to there Paris depot for an updated piece of hardware!

They rang and emailed us on the Tuesday to say the TV was repaired and would be with us by the Thursday latest Friday. Both days came and went, the Saturday as well...After waiting in 3 days it eventually arrived, no apology.

Hooray it worked!

Back to the TV:

Everytime you play a film, the sound is out of sync, you have to adjust the settings every time to sync up.

The wifi dongle is not built in, it attaches behind the TV in a USB, you have to enter your wifi code everytime you use it.....

Unlike all other makes of TV I have seen since, the Thomson does not have a scart socket, you are supplied an adapter, wich is very fiddly.

The picture quality is not the best, Blu rays tend to 'drag' when there is movement on the screen.

The aftersales service is appalling...........
willysnapper
Thomson are a French electronics group who manufacture a wide range of products from miltimedia to wepons guidance systems and other battle field technology.
They bought the domestic products side of the Thorn group when they were sold off, so these TV's possibly have some "Ferguson" DNA, ..........not sure that's good or bad! X)

Thomson setup a joint venture with TCL, a Chinese company a little while back so there's no Ferguson DNA in there :D (Thomson bought Ferguson way back in 1987 and Ferguson designed products soon stopped thereafter) TCL appear to make the products and use Thomson's names (Thomson, RCA etc)

Power on and full speed ahead I plunge into the flood of pictures. Quick search an HD program and his eyes have something special? Forget it! An incredulous expression pervades my face. Is about the HDMI cable loose? No, it's stuck in place and has otherwise no damage. It was so in my actual TV wiring. Maybe it's the transmitter? Switch quickly and ... duh, also does not look better. That can not be true. If your TV fail when image? And at a price of 700 euros, but where there are similar devices at Cyberport to have for less than 600 Euros?

Quickly again checked the Dreambox settings and also the mode of the TV set. No, it will and will not get better. Too bad. Of a full-HD picture I can not vorschwärmen you excited because my eyes have seen better. Even in other living rooms and not just in the Cyberport stores or major retail markets. Even considering the price range of the device you can not compromise on here, because the picture is not really a treat for the eyes. Since you can not see the face of shaky goalie in a penalty shootout. Or he looks pained, although he would be? Well, anyway, the image of the Thomson is not a picture that is the generation of 2012, the Full HD TVs justice. If you look at the competition ...

Might be a stupid question but would a wireless Usb dongle work for tv's such as the Sony KDl-46EX723? My connections hard wired atm but moving router to a different room and don't fancy paying 70 odd quid for sony's own wireless adapter which apparantely has **** signal.

Any recommendations?

Get two Powerline adapters, generally come up here for about £20 per pair. Plug each one into a power point and you end of creating an Ethernet connection between them. One end connects to the router, the other to the TV.

You could use a wifi bridge (converting wifi to wired ethernet, typically powered via USB). Example:
Vonets VAP11G, typically under £15 delivered ex-UK from the bay, or bit less via the slow boat from China.

So I have a net book that I was trying to use while sat outside, but the internet kept loosing its connection on wi fi................does this thing help me keep the signal and go on the internet outside?
thanks
Unlikely that this nano device would offer increased range compared to your netbook's internal antenna/card combination.
An adaptor having an external antenna may offer a greater range, assuming you don't mind a device sticking out the side of your netbook. You could also buy one with a larger antenna to potentially increase range further.
Examples all delivered from UK Top Rated Sellers
£4.45 fixed antenna
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221076028950
£4.76 larger fixed antenna
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271022793336
£4.93 removable antenna (option to buy a larger antenna at later date if required)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290870227215
Personally I would look at relocating the wifi source nearer to where I would be sat outside, or using a booster / repeater so that there was no requirement to have something sticking out the side / rear of my netbook.
This one has been working perfect for me in my RPI running xbian, for the last month:

For the casual user (i.e. needing data whilst out and about of maybe in a hotel) Samba is fantastic value. I've been using it for about a year now in my iPad 3 and have never paid for any data. I use either my laptop (there's a Chrome "extension" for Samba) or Safari on the iPad to play the ads when I'm watching TV so it almost silently builds up credit.

Another network I use is Ovivo (www.ovivomobile.com) where you get 500meg/month for nothing every month. If you need more, it's £5 for 1gig/month which is brilliant. I use the alternate between the free and paid data as and when I need more than the free 500meg - the beauty being you can just keep the SIM in a MiFi device and it's there when you need it.
Pigging hell. Just joined but when I ordered the dongle the page jumped and they have'nt got my address so they don't know where to send the dongle! Sent a messgae (wait 48hrs for a reply) Hope their customer service is good.
Flashard
It's a good deal, I've been using one for a long time now. I just overran my data limit to the tune of -400 MB, so I've got some ad watching to do. Might just buy another SIM for £1.

Do you get charged if you overrun your limit?
DK11
CrazyBob
I wouldn't bother, my SIM stopped working. My account has disappeared. They won't answer my emails. Top it all off they keep sending me promo emails which I cannot stop as you need to login to stop them but their site says my email address is not registered. Useless company.

You must be the exception Bob, I find their customer service and service in general very good - have you checked your spam folder for email replies? Btw you can just click the unsubscribe link in their emails if you don't want to receive them anymore - there's no need to login. That's what I did.

I don't have a spam folder, never needed one.
Strange it, when I tried it before it asked me to login and then said the email address/account didn't exist.
Now saying successful.
Result, thanks

It still seems pretty pricey for an android TV dongle. I wouldn't pay more than £50 personally.
It's not JUST a dongle - it's got a wireless keyboard and mouse included in the price.

Yep, and all that combined should not cost more than £50. Not only that, but all the reviews I read for this product state that the remote is worthless. So you could get a much cheaper device which actually works. I don't know why I am replying, the rating says it all really. Brrrrrrr, it's chilly in this deal.
You can get much cheaper different and better brand with air mouse included. I got mine for Xmas for £52.

Don't even touch it, I've used this exact one in store and they're so horrifically slow and unreliable (and overpriced)

It still seems pretty pricey for an android TV dongle. I wouldn't pay more than £50 personally.
It's not JUST a dongle - it's got a wireless keyboard and mouse included in the price.
