You need to open the laptop. screw underneath. theres a rubber pad in the middle that you need to lift also. then the caddy is held in with screws. undo the screws and it will slide out. There are tutorials on youtube if you get stuck but its very simple and easy :)

Do i just pull on the caddy to remove it? or do i open the laptop

I read somewhere about an option in the bios to do this - However never looked into it as I quiet like it! I want it to do that when its on! The fact it can do it when off and no controller is controlling it, its a shame it cant do it while on. Aura Core works with my lappy, tried Aura full, but didnt respond at all.

Well doesn’t overclocking the card void its warranty?

Nate1492

You linked a graph of 2560x1440p. Running a 580 at 2k graphics is not really ideal, it's quite low on the threshold of playable for a ton of games. Here's the 1080p performance. When you suggest a 1060 3gb, you should really not cherry pick a review that is designed to max the 3gb of VRAM.Anyway, what isn't shown here is that the 580 cards don't OC well.https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/RX_580_Nitro_Plus/33.html4.4% on that card.SO, it's 3% faster at stock compared to the 1060 6gb, and 13% faster than the 1060 3gb.https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1060_Armor/33.htmlEven this mid grade GTX (Armor) is pulling 16.5% OC.https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1060_Gaming_X_3_GB/29.htmlAnd this MSI Gamign X 3gb card is pulling 14.5% OC.The AMD cards are very close to their max performance out of the box, but once you put a modest OC on the Nvidia cards, they catch up, or pass, the AMD equiv.

adamspencer95

from where? and let me guess, 2nd hand? edit so you actually paid £295 (i.e. more) and it was an Amazon Warehouse deal hardly apples to apples

adamspencer95

Trusted reviews - RX580 vs GTX 1060 this shows the founders 1060 6GB is virtually the same performance as an AIB RX 580 8GB in reality they trade blows dependent on the game Techspot this one shows the 1060 winning in most of the DX11 games

To those that still have the Gigabyte Amazon france pre-order for £600. I just wanted to make sure it's a decent card as assumed all 1080 Ti cards were reference pcb layout. That card has a strange layout and there is no water block available that will cover the RAM/VRM section of the card. A Phantek block exists that works but it's not ideal and isn't specifically designed for that layout. Cancelling mine now.

Still available from Amazon, just on the rights hand side of the screen select "EUR 749,99 Spedizione GRATUITA. DettagliVenduto da: Amazon" Once in the basket same price as before with shipping at €744.68. If anyone wonders why the price of Amazon.it items goes down once in the basket, it's due to the VAT difference, Italy pay 22% VAT, and that is included in the price advertised, once you put it in the basket and select a UK shipping address it charges the VAT at UK rate of 20%, causing the price to drop to the €737.70. :)

There are noticeable differences of gaming at 4k or high refresh rates. Agree its not a necessity and most people are happy with 1080p 60Hz but the benefits can be taken advantage of by any average gamer if they are willing to pay for them. Have you actually tried either?

Gutted I slept on that A.O. deal, incredible price for what you get! Was looking at it for nearly a week but didn't pull the trigger. Glad you're happy with it. :)

Franky1971

The cashback offer at AO has expired but I managed to get hold of one before it did. Have had it only a week but I'm very happy with it. The GTX 1060 3gb card runs everything (Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1 etc) on ultra settings in FHD at over 100 fps, never dropping below 60fps. Absolutely no lag or stutter, everything runs buttery smooth. Some sellers state 120hz but they've got it wrong, it's a 60hz screen. Still a fantastic IPS panel though and G-Sync technology really enhances the gaming experience as it prevents screen tearing for seamless graphics. If you turn G-Sync off, you really notice the difference and appreciate what it offers. I've had absolutely no problem with overheating and while the fans do turn on when playing games, they're not at all loud so very happy about that. If you restart the laptop, it takes literally 15 to 20 seconds to boot up and you're ready to go. I can't tell you how pleased I am with this as my 10 year old desktop that it replaced used to take about 5 minutes lol. Build quality is also solid and the only negative is the battery life, which is abysmal..... around 3 hours and when it gets below a percentage of your choosing, battery saving mode and CPU throttling kicks in to save power, meaning your gaming frames per second will drop from 100+ to around 30 with plenty of lag and stutter. However, so long as you keep the charger plugged in, you won't have this problem. As I'm replacing a deskptop pc, mine never leaves the house and is always plugged in so I don't have this problem but if you're going to be away from a power outlet for any length of time then this is definitely going to be an issue for you. WHO SHOULD BUY THIS........ Anyone who wants a fantastic value for money gaming laptop to play triple A titles such as Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1 etc on ultra settings on a gorgeous FHD screen at 100+ fps with zero lag or stutter AND will have the charger plugged in at all times. WHO SHOULDN'T BUY THIS........ Anyone who is regularly going to be away from a power outlet for any more than 2 hours at a time. PS. I've got the FY410T version with a '128gb SSD' and '1tb 7200 HDD'. If you plan on getting the FY173T model in this thread then you'll also have to get a minimum 1tb 7200 HDD fitted after purchase, as the 256gb SSD just isn't going to be big enough to hold more than a few games. I've got Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 and they're both 63gb each.

fiqqer

£184 now, so whoever didn't buy at this price has to pay £5 more for the new cheapest card. and that is in only 10 days. There really isn't much difference between any of the 1050ti cards in terms of performance. The differences are the size, the loudness and how hot they get, as well as the number of power pins required - older motherboards will only allow 4 pins, newer ones will be able to utilise graphics cards requiring 6 power pins. There will be a reliability issue as well but it is difficult to tell which will be the best cards in the long run. This is the most powerful graphics card that comes in 4 pin options so you need to be careful which you buy if you only have 4 power pins.

be_vigilant

Find me a 4k uncompress GOT and I will gladly watch that. The 1080p is the best quality you will find. So upscaling with madvr is the best option.

misa426

Alright, you do a survey of the percentage here that use Linux and get back to me. Sorry but I doubt I'll be impressed with any of that stuff you mentioned. It's not my interest. I believe that new Sony ZX Premium is marketed as displaying 4K HDR, no? "Upscaled 1080 GOT" - No "hardcore" media enthusiast with such an obsession on absolutely perfect cutting edge quality as you seem to be suggesting, would be watching "upscaled" in the first place. They'd be watching a native 4K uncompressed blu-ray, surely "Future proof" is a fool's game in the world of technology - there is no such thing. Everything you mention will become obsolete soon enough

bb1991

hi guys can anyone point me in the right direction for a gaming laptop or desktop for a 10 year old?

MIDURIX

Not really. I game with a 290X which allows high frame rates at high/ultra and 1080p. The 290X is equal to a 970gtx, which is equal to mobile 1060. Saying a 1070 or 1080 is there he minimum needed is crazy. A 1050 will be enough for some at 1080p and a 1060 would almost be perfect.

Ev0lution

I've researched it. £1700 minimum for a decent specced GTX 1070 laptop (if you are lucky with a deal) £2200 for a GTX 1080 and more like £2500 for a decent spec, add a 4k screen and add another £1000 on top. Top end Laptop gaming is quite simply horrendously overpriced for what you get for your money. Not to mention the very real issues with thermals that inevitably becomes an issue with them over time and the complete lack of an upgrade path. It will never, ever come close to a desktop.

Can someone confirm if this model has an IPS display? Thanks

meadwak

this needs to be expired as price is back up to £999!

I think thats a mistake from amazon, as stated above it will be the 2gb version, its not a bad price for the spec but i think its worth saving another £100-200 more for a better spec

1050 is a good card, especially with 4gb of ram. Not the best card, but for £800 this will play most games at high or ultra at 1080 with decent frame rates. If you can find better, please post. 1050m Ti would be nice, but would cost more. 1060, 1070, 1080, etc...

Nice spec machine but also concerned about the 1050 perf. Likely a heavy beast of a thing with that hdd in there too. Some good numbers/benches, etc here. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-ROG-Strix-GL753VD-Notebook-Review.189672.0.html

A while back I posted in Ask about any Nvidia gtx 1060 equipped laptops being available for sub £1000. This appears to be the answer to that question! This is a very good spec lap… Read more

Yes this is a UK model and keyboard. The picture I uploaded was a screengrab from the web page.

Yeah it'll play it no problems - I bought this one before it went on deal (sigh) and it plays it no probs Also it is UK keyboards, I saw a comment further up saying it wasn't but just seems the picture is US layout but seems that's just a picture confusion

Firstly, I don't expect this deal to get a great reception, I mean it seems a bit of a rip off to me, but a friend asked me to look for a good deal on this, and looking around at £… Read more

This is too expensive for what it is. Asus should be ashamed of themselves selling a monitor with little to no quality control.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/11220/dells-32-inch-8k-up3218k-display-now-for-sale Dell’s UP3218K is now available to purchase on Dell’s website for $4999 although that would be £4400 (with VAT) at fair exchange rate, chances are it will be £5000.

Pretty sure ASUS only have a "local warranty" so applies to the country the item was originally from. So you'd technically have to ship the unit back to France for an in warranty repair.

Seems like 1070 deals are everywhere at the moment! I was looking for a quiet 1070 that looks great and this one reviews extremely well. Note this is the non factory OC model but … Read more

Great job. Not tried Afterburner yet with this card so will have to give that a try. Sounds like most of these cards will hit those sorts of speeds from reading various forums.

Sanzai

Have explored a bit more with curved overclock on MSI Afterburner and getting a vastly improved boost clock. Seems steady around 2050-2100MHz. Seems I wasn't doing things properly before.

Sanzai

Much better than mine. I get something like 1911MHz on boost clock, and memory only goes to 8950MHz. That boost clock bothers me a bit as the 1070s supposedly boost to 2000MHz easily if temperatures are controlled as well as this card does...

Going to expire this as now back to £455. For info, if anyone is interested in what this card can do: Got mine installed yesterday and I'm really, really impressed with it! Overclocking wise I'm really pleased with the results. Mine holds steady at 2,100 MHz (boosted) on the core using the 112% power setting. I had it running around 2120 but started to see some artifacts which weren't heat related, possibly power limited? Temps hover around 60 to 65 under load. Noise levels are low, even when taxed I've not seen it pass 67 Celsius in ultra Unigine Valley and this is with the default fan curves which are pretty conservative AND the above core clock going well beyond even the 1080-O8G version. I've hooked up a 140mm PWN fan to one of the 4 pin connectors on the front of the 1070 and set it to spin at ~ 1400 rpm when the 1070 reaches around 60 Celsius to give the card a bit of extra fresh air (not that it really needs it) for extremely minimal additional noise - love that feature! Card is HUGE, heavy and looks absolutely fantastic. As it has a quality backplate I don't see any sag. It was a really tight fit on my motherboard, not due to the length but I think because of the backplate - it barely cleared the plastic ram catches and needs a bit of encouragement to slot into place! Mine came with Micron memory (rather than Samsung) which apparently can cause stability issues when overclocking the memory, however there is a BIOS update that supposedly fixes this. I haven't felt the need to try this update since I can get +1,100 Mhz on the memory clock so far (around 9,100 Mhz). Plenty of room left to tinker :)

Sanzai

Installed mine last night. Overclocked a bit but don't think my card is a great one for that. It's fine though because the overclock I have settled on allows decent temperature and it is quiet, which is my priority! Definitely a big boost from my GTX 970
