Been looking at gaming laptops for months but from recent reveals and information I'm going to hold off for intel 9th generation of CPUs (which is why we're seeing particularly GTX1060 and 8th gen CPU laptops falling in price over the past few weeks), Acer recently revealed their 2019 Helios line of mid range (300) and high range (700) laptops are coming within the next month at decent prices including 9th generation processors and possibly raytracing RTX GPUs included.

At the beginning they had £150 discount

How did you manage to get it for £1199 if you don't mind me asking? Been eyeing the same laptop but its £1349 or £1299 with quidco?

I bought up omen for £1199 with RTX 2060, 144hz, 256 ssd, 1Tb disc

Omg, ridiculous prize..

I have the same touchpad driver installed, I have not noticed any real issues but I do use a mouse generally.

lol, I didnt notice that, I dont recommend buying it, I noticed 3 issues 1 - touch pad was stuck up 2 - touch pad stopped working for a few seconds(I thought this might be because the touchpad might be faulty/loose but now that's it's on 2 machines I'm not sure 3- wifi cut out a few times while trying to update windows, didnt work till after restart I mentioned these on the rma of course so it might be fixed..

The one you've returned is for sale now :)

Hi, how is everyone finding this laptop? I purchased this one and RMA'd it straight away because the touch pad wasn't correctly attached(it stuck up in the corner), i received a second unit a week ago and have been having trouble with the new touchpad too, on both models the touchpad stops working for a few seconds every now and then which is very annoying, i think its a driver issue. I called asus today and they said the same thing and told me to install intel i/o (which i didn't see before on the driver page) but the same thing keeps happening, I'm going to call back tomorrow, but i'm very close to sending this unit back too. also in device manager which touchpad driver have you got installed? i have version dispute installing the drivers on this page saying; not looking for advice, just wondering if anyone else is having this issue,

Nice one, hope you like it ;)

Complete waste of money

Seems very low res for that size screen. Essentially 1080p but wider. My son has a 29” ultra wide with the same resolution and I wouldn’t suggest going bigger at that resolution. Maybe upto 32” ultra wide max but 49” ?? Seems odd to me for that price.

Oooo u crying coz I don't post crap? Not my fault people get paid to post and spam their email deals within seconds of getting them. This screen is useless simple as that

It's Taiwense. Asus are well known for their high end gaming equipment, motherboards etc. Taiwan is the classic country of high end gaming, as well as aluminium PC cases etc, and metal manufucturing. Dell don't make laptops with graphics cards this powerful generally, unless you count their Alienware brand - which scream teen gamer even more. Apple don't make anything like this. And I'd never get a Mac. And unibody aluminium is stupid if you have components producing a fair amount of heat (which high end graphics like this does). Also prone to cracking apparently. An OS I'd never want to learn Terrible for gaming Not upgradeable really Not easily servicable The list goes on. I like some of Apple's stuff, but it's generally overpriced, not that high end in performance, and overly restrictive. And yes, made in China. So actually, this may well be made in Taiwan, while a Macbook may be made in China (or even India). Lol

Xiaomi stuff is designed better than a lot of Dell and HP stuff. They do copy apple a lot to be fair though.

Designed and made are very different matters sir 🙏😁

Apple, Dell, HP are designed in the west

All of which are made in china afaik.

Not at all. Even handles 3ds max and the unreal engine perfectly. I'm just looking for RAM if I come across a decent priced stick but right now found no bottlenecks. As someone else stated the fans make a bit of a noise but that's a minor.

Would you need the extra 8gb if you only plan on using the machine for gaming and not much else?

I bought it in August for similar price. Plays everything I've thrown at it. The fans do get loud but i play with headphones anyway so don't notice it. I've read about the thermals and overclocking etc but I've never seen any slow down. I'd recommend it

And regarding the RAM yes I'm on the lookout for 8 more

I have this. Haven't felt it's overheating but the battery life is a tad disappointing. Max 2 hours however as a gaming machine i really really enjoy it.

Well, It wasn't posted from outside UK, And most stuff on this site is dispatched from outside the UK, Not too sure were your going with that one, And if you have no interested in the games, Which I don't, Then the 26 quid saving over the next cheapest which is the ASRock from CCL makes it a good deal, To me anyway. But my comment wasn't about the product, Just that the first five replies were all negative towards the site from people that appear to have had no dealing with the company at any point on the bases of how the site looked, Witch I also didn't get as the site looked pretty professional and legit to me,Anyway, There site is in my Bookmarks, 3 day delivery is good enough for me.

The problem for me isn't that the item won't arrive, its that the item is dispatched from outside the uk, and may be hard to return it faulty. Plus isnt that good a deal if the games arent included

For me it's a great deal, I'm still running an overclocked Intel 2500k with an R9 280x, I didn't want to throw silly money at an inherently out of date system that I put together some 7 odd years ago, Was looking at the RX580 as I wanted to stay with AMD, But I think it's still overpriced, This for 98 quid is perfect, A good boost over the R9, And could probably knock it out for 50 quid in a years time.

Looks like you got a great deal!

Expensive for what it is. You're better of keeping your old one if that's all you need.

quite easy acutally but im not going into that as this is not the time or space for it but im not touching a build it yourself one at all & would never consider it now after that as i dont trust myself to do it plus for me its more time consuming & (more issues inc warranties ect) so looking for something like or or cause i got a windows 7 pc that runs fine but just fancy something a bit faster & that

Motherboard, case, psu, dvd rw, hdd, cpu cooler and delivery on all parts - i would say a bit more than £350 32 gb ram for £150? Second hand maybe

How did you manage to do that though? One would have to struggle to blow it up. It's easier than a lego tbh... my 6 year old could put one together. As for the deal... the let down are the hard drives. I built one of this specs pc and got to the same price but I have a 6tb wd black, 5 tb toshiba, 1200w evga platinum, 32gb ddr4 dominator, a 32" monitor and corsair keyboard and mouse... the whole thing really from A to Z in this price. And this was when the i9 9900k was released and overpriced same as the rtx 2080... i paid only for this two around £1500 :( Not voted.

Anyone know what the screen is? TN/IPS? m/s? Nits?

Looks like a reasonable price. Got an HP Omen towards the end of last year for a very similar price (biggest compromise was its lack of memory - only 8Gb). Screen size/rate same, as was the GPU and SSD/HD, but the Omen had an 8750H. I'd look/wait for a newer CPU than the 7700HQ with 16GB if I was looking for one right now

Anything above 85 is a red flag in my book in terms of longevity. Ideally below 80 but it is a thin gaming notebook. I will look into the tool you mentioned however, it may help me :)

i think retailers are selling off because next gen is here, but thanks.

Started with constant static noise issues when using earphones. Then developed a crackling from the speakers and sometimes the sound would not work at all - required a restart to get it working. Followed by battery issues (stopped charging to 100%; got stuck on 80-90% a lot), and finally started freezing nearly every time I used it. Also when the screen entered sleep mode, the sound would cut out for 3-4 seconds. The faults developed gradually within the space of 2 months. Asus customer service was beyond despicable. Managed to push the retailer for a refund. On paper its a fantastic laptop; maybe I just got very unlucky. I was told other customers also had a lot of complaints about the laptop. No wonder retailers are reducing the price left, right and centre until OOS.

What faults out of curiosity?

This thing is £900 in China, why you are so happy about this unreasonable price.

I bought this laptop last year for £1,350. Within 2 months it developed a host of serious faults - returned it for a refund. I was informed by the retailer that a lot of these had been sent back by customers. You may have noticed that several retailers have reduced the price on this in the last few months. If you desperately want it, I recommend buying it with a long warranty or finding a cheap refurb. Amazing laptop on paper; a car crash waiting to happen in reality.

Mining is hardly profitable after electric costs etc are factored in. Only mega farms generate enough.

Probably more a case of manufacturers now being able to cope with demand which they couldn't when the mining trend exploded. Also I think the mining trend has taken a dip due to fact that buddy entrepreneurs are not earning the big bucks they thought they could.

graphics cards not powerfull enough for mining anymore ?

With lots of graphic card (sort of) deals starting to appear hopefully the worm has finally turned and prices will start becoming more realistic as there were before the mining craze took off.

Confused? I'm a troll because I think 8GB of RAM is bad for ultra gaming nowadays but feel 24GB is overkill for current gaming (but said it was nice to futureproof)? 16GB is the sweetspot right now. Some 'expert'.

Make up your mind, troll :D

That's a good price, I've paid nearly £1800 not that long ago (October) for MSI Titan Pro with GF1080, however I agree that 4K screen doesn't make much sense, hence why I went with 1080p@120hz panel. GF1080 wouldn't do much modern 4K gaming anyway (at least in 60fps)
