Has anyone found this at the stated price?

Thoughtful

It's old tech now with 4K going to make these completely obsolete soon, just as these made the DVD players obsolete. Although they seem cheap with tech moving at the speed it does they can rapidly need replacement and not offer the bargain which they first appear to do.

Pseudo 4K streams, I suggest you read about Netflix and its so called 4K streams, they are compressed to cope with lack of bandwidth, as are networked tv channels in 4K...only way to get true uncompressed 4K is via UHD Blu Ray....need putting in my place? Niché does not prove anything is dead. Sell your account lol....Illegal. Why do you keep banging on about 5ghz around the corner? 5ghz is here now, my router has been doing 2.4 and 5ghz for donkeys years, that does not alter Mbps, the maximum amount of Mbps is the only thing it alters...clearly you have no clue what you are talking about. Speaking about dead...why are you talking about a PS Vita?! And what are you talking about audio extractors for?!

prash_2k

Nothing rude about it just facts. I think your being really sensitive or you just like to throw the dummies out the pram when your wrong. The fact you said it’s nichè proves it’s dead. Here’s for the slightly rude bit but you need putting in your place. Pseudo 4K streams? No buddy Netflix and sports have been 4K for a while. audio extractors have been around for a while £10 to solve any sound issues. FACT Goodman’s soundbar? And you wanna tell me I know nothing. I’d rather Van Gogh my ears than buy Goodman’s. Owning digital games- your clearly too old to understand. IF you wanted to sell. You just sell the whole account and I’ve already explained with mobile gaming becoming more popular and demanding streaming and sharing is the way forward. As you can’t go home to swap disks. Nichè yes so nichè it’s dead.... 100% yes 5ghz is around the corner. Just leave ur village go somewhere like Singapore see the world buddy there’s a lot out there

cicobuff

You really have no clue what you are talking about, it is not dead, as I said it is increasingly niché....enjoy your sub standard pseudo 4K streams with compressed video and audio through your Goodmans soundbar, clearly you have no knowledge of home cinema. As for your rudeness regarding my personal living, I have not complained of living in a rural area with no internet...in fact we have moved to a semi rural area with just fine Virgin Media Broadband.....saying that though, we are the lucky ones considering the average UK speed currently is 46mbps on the rise yes, but certainly not enough for the likes of UHD to be broadcast without crappy compression, the ONLY way for anyone to get the the best out of their 4K TV sets is with UHD Blu Ray Players...fact. Considering you don't actually own a digital game or have any resale value in it or for that matter (without resorting to piracy) have no clear knowledge of when a certain title is going to be pulled from Amazon Prime/Now TV/Netflix etc and have an avid film collector base out there then you are most certainly wrong.....dead nope, niché of course as I have already said.

freyabo

Thanks OP. (y)

prash_2k

It’s dead mate. I’m surprised you didn’t start going on about mini disk or VHS. And your wrong the majority of gamers prefer digital media because we can play games / make ££ anywhere in the world on any console or hand held like a ps vita 5ghz is round the corner and as long as you live in a town or city you have access to 100mb+ Don’t sit in your village or parents farm house and complain about internet speed. People move to the sticks for peace and quite. No or poor internet is part of that package just like the gas refills.

I have a Xbox X and a Panasonic ub900. I think picture wise you lose a little detail and sharpness on the Xbox. The xbox is slow at loading movies and can is noisier. if you want to game to the Xbox is the better option. As a dedicated movie player this panasonic will be better

chasolo

fair first point but can get plenty xbox's sub 150

Crossbow

Trouble is some people (me included) will never play any games on it. And an X'One costs at least £200?

modelman

Is this the "S" or "X" that was tested or do both perform equally with 4K media. The "S" only outputs 1080p in gaming mode so does it output 4K on UHD films?

Aretak

It wasn't at launch, but it's perfectly fine now after Microsoft fixed up the software. This is a comparison to the UB900, way up the Panasonic range from this model: The only real big mark against it there is the RGB issue mentioned, which has also been fixed via a firmware update since that video was made. https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2018/03/10/microsoft-fixes-xbox-ones-last-big-4k-blu-ray-player-picture-bugs/ It's now a very decent UHD Blu-ray player that can certainly more than hold its own against something like this.

It is in store only, it's specified. I've personally went to Currys for this and they confirmed, sadly the TV was not in my local. The code may have expired in the meantime.

paulbayley77

Code didn’t work for me

sheffield788

Just stopped at Currys in Sheffield, nothing in stock. Asked if I can order it for collection and to have the voucher applied, not possible. Closest in stock in Rotherham, I was told if I go there, the voucher will apply. So, I guess you have to find first if they have in stock in order to use the code.

sheffield788

To be honest, I do not know how it works. Gave it a try over the internet but did not work (code specifies in store only). Wanted to speak to somebody on chat but was too late, nobody available. My plan was to go to currys today but got busy, so I will try over the weekend. When I select the tv, it shows available to collect straight away, so I am assuming they have it at my local. The cheaper one, Toshiba, for £198 is not available to pick up, so I assume the JVC is at the shop. Still debating if I should place a order, pay and when going to collect to ask for £20 back, or I should go in store first. I would have liked the idea to have it delivered but don't know how I can get the money back, so I may try to speak to currys on their chat.

ses6jwg

Thanks. The issues is that curry's stores don't seem to stock this TV. It gets delivered to store which means you have to pay full price. I suppose you could try and return it and rebuy using the code but seems a bit of a potch

Taken from the Blaupunkt website "It is the use of the trademark Blaupunkt in conjunction with a defined product category - for a defined period of time - in a defined territory. The licensee retains the product design and control. Once a product category is assigned to a licensee, that licensee is completely responsible for the design, manufacturing, distribution, and sales of that product. In other words, they retain control of the process while having access to the power of the Blaupunkt brand heritage and partner support." A posh way of saying exactly the same as I did - stick the badge from a once respected brand on something to fool people into thinking it is quality.

fearona

Its there to explain how they licence their products, in the about us section.

deleted1293960

If this is an attempt to deny what I said, sorry, go dig a bit deeper, a flashy website doesnt mean they arent fronting for a tat merchant or two. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polaroid_Corporation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaupunkt

My point is that it’s everything from the DAC onwards (the analogue outputs etc). In a 4K blu ray player like this, where the information leaving the player is EXACTLY the raw digital data that was on the disc (and assuming the transport is at least capable of reading that data, which isn’t asking much), then all players are equal. In this case it’s exactly like a computer hard drive - if all the bits get through, the file loads; if they don’t , it doesnt. Your MP3 files would have no more ‘colour’ or ‘presence’ with a better hard drive.

TALON1973

It's alot more than the dac..... And anyone that puts a £40 cd player in a hi end system needs shooting.

jamesdl

This isn't a 4k player, it won't be able to read 4k discs. This is just an upscaler.

Quartermass

So reading the comments IF there is no difference between 4K players can I buy this https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/samsung-bd-j6300-smart-3d-4k-upscaling-blu-ray-player-w-wi-fi-8495-magicvision-2912406 and save myself over £100 with no loss of picture quality?

After doing a bit of search I realised the AV receiver of this system is rather basic and is something I would not buy, I will be happy to spend around £200-300 more and get proper system , but I understand not everyone is as enthusiastic about sound as I am. That being said I am gonna try and offer you some advice on how to set it up : firstly get a proper source like blu ray player, the sound from TV broadcasts is very low bit rate so it will sound bad anyway, connect the speakers make sure the colours match on the receiver so they are not out of phase. In the receiver change crossover values 80hrz for satellite speakers and 120hrz for the subwoofer if you can. Make sure speakers are set to small, the subwoofer is set to "use" and phase or polarity is set to "normal" not reverse. Get free spl meter for you phone, adjust all speaker levels so they all match to 75db or thereabouts. Then measure all speaker distance with tape measure to where you would sit and enter the values in the receiver so it can set the appropriate delays. Make sure the sub and 3 front speakers are along the front wall, do not put the sub more than a meter away from either front left or front right speaker. Switch off all tone controls, equalisers and DSP effects , if there is some sort of dynamic range control turn it off. In the menu of TV see if you can set ARC to bitstream rather than PCM and look for the dynamic range control again, make sure its off. After doing this try and test with at least some sort of Dolby Digital 5.1 content, like SKY Movies if you have or good HD Channel like BBC. If it sound good only then you should start experimenting with double bass functions , equalisers , tone controls and so on. If after doing this you are still not happy , by all means return it.

Arren_Bryant

How have I not set them up properly? Speakers are connected to Receiver with HDMI cable going from Receiver to HDMI port supporting ARC on TV. I’ve tried tweaking the treble, bass etc. tried programs available and still... not much better than what i already have. It’s not to say the sound from this is bad. By all means it’s not. But it’s not worth what I paid for it with such little improvement in sound quality.

lazarethfr

I was just about to be sarcastic and say if its not Logiteck speakers then it will be horrible, and voila straight away there is someone comparing AV separates to pc speakers XD XD XD . You have not set them up properly , it is very easy but if you are not sure just look online , there are plenty tutorials, btw if you connect any speakers costing gazilion pounds straight to TV via RCA they will all sound horrible. I bought my first av receiver 8 years ago Onkyo tx sr605 with onkyo entry level speakers which costed only £100 brand new and sound quality blew me away, I came from Cambridge Soundworks THX 550 5.1, good and expensive set of pc speakers at the time and there was simply no comparison. Judging sound quality is very subjective , but calling the apples pears is simply ignorance.
