Bought one of these, that are supposedly A1 graded, which by their own words means "as new". I didn't even manage to get through windows setup before the fan started to fail spectacularly, which brings into question whether they even test the "refurbished" systems they're selling, let alone refurbish them. Either that or they have extraordinarily low quality assurance standards. Have submitted a return request, will see where it goes from here. I would strongly urge avoiding this deal for the time being. Update: Still waiting for them to even action my return request, most likely gonna have to repair the laptop myself. Their customer support is the worst I have ever dealt with, they were faster to send me an email about upgrading to their extended warranty than they were to actually honour said warranty. Hopefully this will save someone a lot of time and money, especially someone without the knowledge to do laptop repairs for them self, as you'll receive no support from this company seemingly after they have your money.

Mine came yesterday too, great machine. Does your capslock key occasionally flash when starting up then the computer doesn't boot? I've flashed a BIOS update over it this morning but can't test extensively because I'm at work. Also when in tablet mode if I tilt the device it sounds like the fan starts groaning.

Was this £600 on the HP store? I started looking around in September/October and it's been at £699 on the HP Store every time I've looked except for Black Friday. We bought ours from Amazon at £649 and the price has been as low as £649 or £640 if you include marketplace sellers according to camelcamelcamel. The build quality on this model is very good. The Pavilion range is certainly built to a price and best avoided IMO, but there's nothing wrong with the build quality on this laptop. Hinges are solid and smooth. Material quality is fantastic and compares favourably with more expensive laptops.

Publix

Is HP build quality good enough to risk £650 on a convertble? Or will it break or begin to fall apart at Warranty + 1 month?

Recently got an Envy 6234 for about the same price from currys/pcworld. Printer itself hasn't been great tbh in terms of print quality, paper jams and driver software glitches. Really cheap though considering the free ink (I never signed up to a trial just 15 pages a month).

I have an ENVY 6234 and was thinking of getting HP ENVY 5020 today for 12 month ink offer. Can I put the cartridges from the 5020 into my 6234 to use for the 12 months? Thanks

faddy54

Yeah, the terms on HP's site say "Valid promotion only from March 1st, 2019 until May 31st, 2019 and applicable to HP ENVY and HP ENVY Photo printers. Must complete HP Instant Ink enrolment within 7 days of setting up the printer following the setup process indicated in your printer instructions and using the HP Instant Ink ready cartridges that come with your printer." so it looks as though Curry's have got i wrong when they say "Buy an HP ENVY or HP ENVY Photo between 1st March 2019 until 7th June 2019" though the seven days appear to start from date of printer setup not date of purchase.

I hear that the 2500U version with Vega 8 will throttle less and produce better performance in the basic gaming that it can do. The GPU and CPU share one TDP limit. Whereas the regular Envy with the MX150 have separate TDPs to play with.

Expensive but when you consider the spec and size it’s all relative. Great price IMO!

Errr.........I don't presume to know what other people think and I said "Unless you specifically want a 13" screen....." So you sound like your in the industry right? So you would know about accessibility right? So 13" screens are not suitable for everyone. I suspect that "cost" features heavily in what employees are issued with and if large screen monitors are also in play why go to the expense of issuing 15" laptops? How do you know the users buying this are buying it for work purposes anyway or what use they would put it to? You seem to be making a lot of assumptions and you know what they say about assumptions......... It's simples.....it's just an alternative. Not better, not worse. Just an alternative. Let the user decide. You're like a dog with a bone on this one.......

pgilc1

it was tongue in cheek yes, the point being, anyone who wants something an Envy 13 / XPS 13 is unlikely to be bothered with something as big as that 15.4 inch acer even if it is cheaper. I wouldnt. Even standard issue work laptops these days are generally no bigger than 14 inch. Have a look around you the next time you're on a plane or train. Anyone using a laptop isnt lugging somethig with a 15.4 inch screen about with them. Its like comparing a Porsche to a Golf R. Probably similar performance but both doing very different jobs and the golf is cheaper for a reason. You're just not comparing apples with apples.

Euclid

You are kidding right? The Acer laptop weighs 1.8Kg = 3.96 lbs. Are you seriously saying it would be a struggle to carry this laptop from desk to desk / place to place? The HP laptop weighs 1.3Kg Those extra 500 grams must be real difficult to bear....... "I don't believe it!" (shock) (shock) (shock)

pgilc1

you'll need a lot more than a can of spinach in you to lug about your laptop (lol)

Yeah you should do! I was only menat to have 6 but that was with them not HP. Someone must have bought warranty with it when they got it.

Wow! You're quite lucky, after checking it seems I only have 7 months of warranty left! I'll think about contacting XSonly about that and see what they say, as it's advertised as 1 year warranty.

Check the warranty status on the HP website, i was surprised to find out i had 3 years! The previous owner must have paid for it!

no_Sunshine

If you're happy with this price, then please pay it. What majority thinks is apparent by the coldness in here.

Marcus_72

Did it have 3 years warranty and was it an HDD and SSD and did it come with a 30 quid mouse and 20 quid case. These 3 items are worth 150 quid so that brings it down to a very similar deal to yours. Plus I would rather the warranty from the manufacturer rather than curry's personally. This laptop is priced at 899 in Currys at the moment without the extras and warranty.

Paid 699 in the pc world boxing day sales for this and it is a very capable laptop but not worth this amount.....700 is about the right spot for this until the 2nd gen ryzen mobile processors come out

It looks pretty good but heard a lot about this and the other similar line-ups throttling under high-load so you might suffer if you're using it for gaming where the heat from the CPU and GPU might combine to a large thermal load.

Kami275

Had a similar deal. But you have to return any left over/ used cartridges at the end of free months. And then to buy ordinary ink cartridges unless you continue a contract with HP......

Zikohh

I didn't get any horizontal lines at all but I only print documents. Question when you turn it on do the rollers make squeeking sounds. Mine does can't tell if it's normal.

Wide.Awake.Jake

I've tried printing photos on a4 glossy paper, but the quality is not great and you can see lots of horizontal lines. The standard small photos don't print well either, with a big fuzzy patch, or a but where the part is printed out twice. This is printing from my phone, which I've set up with HP's software. Not bad for documents, although again an getting faint horizontal lines. Will try a head alignment and clean and see if that helps, but these are the first couple if photos from a fresh setup

I sent the PDF sales receipt, which was an attachment to one of the Currys emails. It went through without quibble. It should be attached to the email titled "We are processing your CURRYS order".

Anyone else have issues with HP cashback? I've been told the claim is on hold due to not providing the invoice or delivery note - apparently the order confirmation email , order acknowledge email and even a screen shot of the Currys account showing the order are not sufficient. 500 isn't an option when you sign up (or it wasn't for me). If all goes to plan, you get 6 months at 500 pages, 9 months at 100 pages 8) (or 8 months at 100 pages if your printer includes the 4 month free and £32 credit on arrival).

Fallingin28

Thank you Anon, appreciate you taking the time to reply. I'll open the box and check. Are you an existing customer? ;) Why sign up with 300 then swap to 500? Why not sign up with 500? So after 6 months drop to 100 pages? So how long will I actually not be paying for ink? Thank you soooooooooo much :)

Anon

Activate the instant ink following a referral from an existing customer ;) and add FREEINK during the sign up in the promo box. That should give you 6 months free. Sign up on the 300 page plan as they are free anyway, once you have signed up immediately change to the 500 page plan. 500 pages free per month for 6 months (y) (it doesn't matter if you will use that many - it is free whether 100 or 500). Then drop down to 100 pages to use up your credit for 8 months. In all likelihood your printer will arrive with 3 months and £3.50 credit (mad) so you will have to call them and they will ask you to send a copy of your order and a photo of what was included. They will then add the extra month and send a code for £32. Once this is all received, apply both codes. So 6 months at 500 pages, 9 months at 100 8) .

Fallingin28

I'm assuming that you want A4 photo paper, not yet found a cheap place, so would also be interested. However if you wanted 6x4 photo paper, I've recently ordered this one. amazon.co.uk/10-Pack-Premium-15ll0x100-Printers/dp/B014336SE6/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1547584629&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=6+x+4+photo+paper+wilko&dpPl=1&dpID=41pxNZuDyrL&ref=plSrch I found that if you wanted 4 packs (total of 100) it was £5.50, but if you selected 10 packs (total of 250) then it was only £7.50. I thought I'd take a risk on the 10 packs. Very quick delivery, although it's not quite as good as the best, it really isn't that bad at all. Photos seem to come out quite good.

This opinion is worthless. Just no because you said so. Great print quality, no problems with ink cartridges, £1.99 for 50 prints per month, more than enough for me, so I'm getting rollover every month. I have been using HP printers for 20 years. And servers. Never laptops because every HP laptop I've had broke after 1 year, so I'm using ThinkPads only.

No, had one for over a year and they are superb for everything except photos - they’re awful on photos.

I got mine couple of months ago for about £29 after cash back and 7 months free ink. I think it's perfect for home use to print couple of documents, airport tickets etc. I use it for my home business for invoices as well and it's ok to me. Much better than an expensive laser hp m176 we have at work. Believe it or not this envy is faster than the laser. But that laser is the worst printer I've ever used.
