mime came with just a EU plug, had to use an adapter.

Did it come with a UK plug please?

Mine arrived today :).

For anyone that got one of these and doesn't actually have an Orbi router already, the satellite unit should work with this router, which looks like a reasonable deal and create a pretty decent mesh setup together:-

No the power supply is 100-240V so all you need is a pin converter.

Received and installed, working well,. Good coverage in a Victorian tenement (had to manually update the FW to a later but not latest version before it to auto-update itself to the latest )

Just ordered! Hoping this helps on a 1920 3 bedroom semi-detached house

So I put the hub into modem mode and use this for wi-fi how do I put it into modem mode thanks

Yup. connect the an Ethernet wire from the Hub in to a specific dedicated port on the Orbi Router. The app will pretty much tell you exactly what to do. (I also put the hub 3 in to modem mode). Got one during Black Friday and it's so nice to have a strong signal on the same network across the house.

I paid £14.99 in Jan 2018 (but returned it because I couldn't get it to work).

I tried one of these and couldn't get it to work at all. Was getting a small trickle of a signal of a few kbps where I can get around 74mbps directly from the router. Ended up getting a TP Link one and it works perfectly. I get 40+mbps on my 2.4ghz band and 60+mbps on my 5ghz one at the far end of the house. A tenner more expensive (I paid £23 in Jan 2018) but at least it works.

Do note you'll only get 100 meg max from the lan port

No. It's been £11.89. On average it's been ~£15 over the last year.

is this the cheapest it's been on amazon ?

Brilliant, I appreciate your help (highfive)

Yes, This is a million times better than the Vodafone modem/router. This is all you would need, You would need to obtain your Vodafone credentials from Vodafone to be able to set it up. I got mine via there online chat, You just have to state you're using an openreach approved modem/router and they'll give you your user name and password etc.. If they ask which router just state one of these from the list Hope that helps.

Hope you can help. I'm with Vodafone fibre and the WiFi speed is terrible, did this help you? Also, do you need any more equipment or does this just replace the VF router? Many thanks

Any recommendations For a router to replace bt home hub

Can't really help, I'm afraid - I bought one of these. The Asus ones are supposed to be good, but I have no direct experience.

this thing is a huge beast. I got the other version of it without built in modem. So far its been running fine. I tried setting up Advanced Tomato on it but once I had that installed then it wouldn't detect an internet connection and I couldn't find any answers online so ended up going back to stock.

Why do you say that when the D model is virtually the same (specs & features), but with an inbuilt modem? Many actually prefer to have a separate modem & router, as the modems (&/or firmware) on these modem+router combos are usually not very reliable.

I've got an R7000p which I use (and love) and purchased the D7000 for my parents. Gutted I didn't get the D7000 as it's the nuts. Heat added!

Mine has died, it's been plugged in 36 hours, flipping fuming

If v2, it'll be mentioned on the label on the underside. Did you try a firmware update? This may sort it. Make sure to download & install the correct one for your version.

Sorry....blocking the dhcp server from giving addresses out.

It's not a router, so why would it have been providing IP addresses? Or do you mean it was blocking DHCP?

Are all ports 1Gbps?

I use it for deploying computer images . The gigabit link means it does it a good percentage faster and we had a 10/100 previously but this is better. Had a little niggle where it wasn't providing IP addresses to finish the deployment off...but it's on 24/7/365 so turned it off for a few hours and it was all fine again.

It is absolutely rubbish. Had one and returned it the next day as the signal was no better than my old tp-link regular extender for £15. Actually my £20 pocket GL.iNet router worked better than this. Ubiquiti access point connected to a network adapter blows this thing out of the water with a fairly similar price. Super cold for this.

I agree it’s HUKD the voters rule

Why is this so cold? This IS a mesh system that doesn't require a device plugged directly in to your router, has a back haul channel and gives you (in theory) 100% of your WiFi speed. This is not a normal range extender. I missing something?

Brrrrr.... It's cold in here getting out before I catch a cold.

Thanks both, any recommendations? Will do some research on the google one!

Got one a few weeks ago and using it with no issues on sky instead of the sky Q hub, although don't use the WiFi as I've got orbi mesh. It's the older version which has one of latest broadcom chipsets which is why I went for it. The new v2 has a different chipset which I don't believe is as good from a modem perspective.

You snooze you lose, been looking for modem router for ages, most routers don't have modem functionality which I unfortunately need as don't want a separate one.

I didn't realise you'd added links to your post, anyway, I have no experience of this Netgear router - I have the TP-Link AC750 Archer VR200 Modem Router (TalkTalk Fibre Medium - their supplied Huawei HG633 was a nightmare). Not sure if this note on the listing makes any difference Note: Ensure that the factory reset is carried out and then the latest firmware is installed. Netflix also works perfectly for me (everywhere!). Old bug that's been fixed maybe? And "setting it all up" is literally a 5-10 minute job anyway. Basically take 2 units out of the box, plug them in and connect the Orbi router to my existing modem, update a couple of things in the app/admin page and it's pretty much good to do.

Will it work with Mac? I mean does it provide drivers or work out of the box?

I have the older hardware revision and it has been the most reliable and highest performing USB AC WiFi adapter I have ever used, let Windows 10 install the drivers itself. I think the current hardware revision is the one with the problems, you should let Windows 10 install the drivers itself, don't use the Netgear ones. If you are going to install drivers, use the Mediatek RT2870 ones. I get local FTP transfer speeds of 80MB/s using this. For 20 quid, and if you have an AC router, it's worth a punt for the newer hardware revision.

Be warned as many of the reviews say, and as is my personal experience This is an absolute pain to get working with Windows 10. It is impossible to get drivers working well with it that give it a good constant connection. So much so I just went back to my old adapter.

Thanks for this OP. Grabbed a set at this price! (y)

took a few tries to set it up but once set, haven't had a drop yet. Its quite big compared to other mesh network out there. Don't know about the speed since my internet is slow. This tops mesh network tops many reviews. At this price, its a great buy.

I purchased the 3 pack orbi on Black Friday and have since returned it. Let me say it’s way better than broadband bundled hubs, it’s better than most WiFi access points, it’s super easy and convenient to setup. It gives full coverage everywhere. However the speed still wasn’t quite what I was expecting. 3 storey house, router on the ground floor and a satellite in each floor, all in the open stairwell. The top floor salatelite kept kept moving between 2.4 and 5ghz backhaul. Speeds using iperf3 never exceeded 350Mbps between multi stream capable devices. In the end I bit the bullet and replaced the vdsl faceplates, tidied up the wiring, moved the bt hub upstairs and ran cat6 under the carpet to the middle landing. I have a AirPort Extreme running my WiFi and this well positioned location for me is producing as good if not better speeds due to the strange backhaul config of the orbi (it wouldn’t auto daisy chain). So consider placement, I’m looking to replace the AirPort Extreme with a 3200 or higher multi stream nighthawk. If central placement and a really good / strong access point isn’t an option and neither is cabling multiple access points, these are easily the best option.

No worries buddy :)

I would expect the Arlo range to be more secure than other generic IP cams Usually the streaming port is left open and / or does not require a login which allows hackers to view what you are doing. I think its usually on port 554 / 555 or at worst 8080

i'd love to read about this if you could link me please? Is it that people sit close range and hack your wifi password and then deeper in your network to see the Arlo video traffic? or do they hack people's Arlo cloud or what

Got a source?

This is a good price for the original Arlo but if you can afford it I think the newer Arlo Pro is well worth the extra money. I almost bought a used Arlo but a friend pointed out the horrible delays between motion detection and recording which made it pretty pointless for my needs. The new Pro version reduces the delay significantly and has other upgrades too.

The arlo pro is out and also there is a lot going on with thieves hacking into the cameras to watch you at home so when you leave they come in look it up be careful when buying wireless technology

lovely just what i'm after.

Just got the alert from camelcamelcamel. Paid £56 for mine a couple of months ago, only just took it out the packet last week! :( Great price if you are looking for PoE.

Its not a router, it provides more ethernet ports if you require them. It is PoE on 4 of the 8 so is more suitable for situations like IP camera installations whereby the power is supplied through the same ethernet cable to the camera so a much tidier install. If you simply wanted more Ethernet ports than your router has available, you'd opt for a switch without PoE as they're significantly cheaper than with the PoE functionality.

This is available again..... Can anybody tell me before I commit if this is going to work with my setup? I've got a sky Q 2TB main box, 2 sky Q mini boxes (connecting via Wi-Fi), 2 sky provided boosters, a sky Q router and sky 30Mb fibre broadband. At the moment the sky Q WiFi mesh system provided by all the boxes is absolutely hopeless, constantly freezing using Wi-Fi devices and sky mini boxes TV also freezing on a regular basis. I've got lots and lots of Wi-Fi gadgets hammering the system, (Samsung smartthings, Netgear Arlo cameras, Ring doorbell and 5 chimes, 3 smart Tv's, Android box, 4 Google home speakers etc etc). I desperately need a stable Wi-Fi solution, but wanted to check this Orbi system will work somehow with The Sky Q setup? Any advice really appreciated. (Also posted in the other newer thread for Orbi)

Was hoping the same. But unfortunately doesn't seem to be the case today.

possibly @FlyGuyUK stay tuned (highfive)

I missed it. Do you think it might come back down in price for Cyber Monday?

These are pretty good although not without problems. I found the LAN performance of the satellites really quite poor, throughput is okay but latency is terrible. However the WiFi performance is excellent, and will blanket a large home in top quality wireless networking without the need for an ethernet backhaul or powerline.

RBS50 Satellite only going for £114 on Amazon (and works with the RBK30 apparently) I think I'll bite

Good find thanks. I've the Netgear nighthawk and the latest update killed the 2gh network. Pain to fix. Been waiting for a good price on this.

interesting, perhaps they ought to say that on their spec sheets. Thanks for the update. I agree the prices are all over the place at the moment for the satellites.

I just got a message back from Netgear to say both the RBS40 and RBS50 are compatible with the RBK30 surprisingly! I'm not really interested unless I could get one for a really good price - the satellites by themselves seem like a bit of a rip off

good question. I don't think so. I've had a quick look at the data sheets on the Netgear website and they say the RBK50 is required for the RBS50. When I checked the one for the RBS30 it said the 40 or 50 is required (which is very confusing as it comes with the 30 in a pack). I'd be tempted to order one anyway, from somewhere that accepts returns, just in case it doesn't work.
