Together with the Nintendo Switch console, the Nintendo Labo kits provide the tools and technology to make fun DIY creations, play games with your creations, and discover how Nintendo Switch technology shapes ideas into reality.* Nintendo Labo launches on 27th April across Europe. You can watch the First Look at Nintendo Labo trailer at the all-new YouTube channel.
Building on the history of Nintendo, which is rooted in innovative entertainment and gameplay experiences, Nintendo Labo continues the company’s mission of putting smiles on people’s faces. With each Nintendo Labo kit, inspired minds across all generations can transform modular sheets of cardboard – specially designed to interact with the Nintendo Switch console and Joy-Con controllers – into interactive creations called Toy-Con. From a piano to a motorbike, a robot and more, each Toy-Con comes to life when combined with the Nintendo Switch in different ways. As you make, you will have fun discovering how the technology works and even invent new ways to play with each Toy-Con.
For example, you can make a functioning 13-key piano that brings your musical arrangements to life once the Nintendo Switch console and Right Joy-Con controller are inserted. As you play, the IR Motion Camera in the Right Joy-Con detects which keys are pressed and plays each note through the console’s built-in speakers. Budding musicians can also experiment with their own musical creations.
Or, you can take control of your very own motorbike by constructing a functioning set of handlebars, with a Joy-Con inserted in each side and the Nintendo Switch console cradled in the middle. Simply hit the ignition button, turn the right handle to engage the accelerator, and watch your adventure unfold on the Nintendo Switch screen, as you race to new destinations.
“Our goal is to put smiles on the faces of everyone Nintendo touches,” said Satoru Shibata, Nintendo of Europe’s President. “Nintendo Labo invites anyone with a creative mind and a playful heart to make, play and discover in new ways with Nintendo Switch. I personally hope to see many people enjoying making kits with their family members, with big smiles on their faces.”
With Nintendo Labo, making and discovering is just as much fun as playing. Every Toy-Con creation presents exciting challenges and varying degrees of complexity, so each one is a unique experience. Making Toy-Con is especially fun with family and friends, as you collaborate and share each other’s Nintendo Labo experiences. Once built, those with a creative touch can customise their Toy-Con creations with their own colouring pens, stickers and paint to give them a personal feel – the only limit is their imagination. A special Customisation Set that includes fun stencils, stickers and coloured tape will also be available to purchase from 27th April.
Nintendo Labo launches in Europe on 27th April with two kits: the Variety Kit and the Robot Kit. Both kits include everything you need to bring your Toy-Con to life, including the building materials and relevant Nintendo Switch software.

sorted byGuess it’s just not for me.
"£53 for some cardboard."
Ignorant enough not to actually research what the product is clearly.
I think the point was its like a someone judgmentally saying to gamers like all of us "£X just for a piece of plastic" when we know its obviously much more than that.
I actually agree with the basic sentiment though - it would appear to be a cheap thing to manufacture and yet is sold with the usual exceptionally high Nintendo tax. That doesn't change when folks are parting with RRP money for anything Nintendo, so hopefully people hold out for a considerable sale/sensible pricing. It does look interesting, but this site has most of us accustomed to paying less than £30 for games (if daily Heat is anything to go by)
You don't need to justify having an opinion, regardless of favour. Both sides, for and against, should be highlighted in topical deals so we have a balanced viewpoint
I get your point. Maybe my comment was a bit harsh. I respect all gaming platforms etc, nust think this is on the pricey side for what it is.
I’ll second that!!
carboard it may be, but lego is just little bits of plastic. Games consoles are just bits of plastic and metal. It’s not what the product is made of, but the magic that is created with those materials.
The hour or two that can be spent enjoying making each model, especially if you get to mak with a child, and the fun exploring and playing after that is well worth every penny. I’d much rather have cardboard models than plastic peripherals that clutter up the place and can’t be easily recycled.
For what you actually get in the box, £60 is a relative bargain compared to £40 for the likes of a four year old Wii U game ported over.
Your not going to recycle your Labo are you lol?
I get your points, fair ones.
maybe the comments a bit harsh. Think it should be a bit cheaper though, my opinion
The kids have had so much fun building the kits, and then playing them, and then remixing them.
Really brilliant bit of kit, highly recommend it
One day maybe. I’ve got a loft full of useless peripherals where the consoles have long since died and the games no longer playable. Can’t see that I’ll still want these models kicking around in ten years time.
Glad to see you’re seeing other’s point of view. As for price, it seems expensive but it really isn’t for everything you get. If these were plastic peripherals, you’d expect to pay £30 or so for the fishing game alone. The piano, if plastic would command £40 with its software included. For £60, you get 5 or more such experiences and a whole software suite to develop your own inventions with whatever you can think to use (I can see us having to keep a lot of empty cereal boxes for my son to play around with his ideas). Looking past the materials of Labo is well worth it as there’s a huge amount of value to be had for just £15/£20 more than a standard Nintendo game cartridge.
*you're
Why people scoff at the idea of creating something and then playing with it, and the fun and excitement having built something has on a young child amazes me. I'd rather pay for cardboard at £50 than a £200+ set of plastic controllers would cost. I'm pretty sure replacement cardboard sheets will be reasonably priced once released.
Exactly! Everyone slating the price with no real understanding on what it actually is and what you get for the money.
This comes with a fun suite of software to play with your creations in a pretty standard way and under the hood there is a much more complex section of the software that enables you to repurpose the existing models or even create your own. It’s pretty similar to other block coding software, which usually retails for around £100 with a load of plastic and a bit of software.
Everyone with the negative comments really needs to look beyond what this might appear to be on the surface.
i agree why this cardboard keeps getting voted hot is puzzling me
If that’s aimed at me, I post loads of deals and actively participate in discussions on HUKD... am I not allowed an opinion? The switch is a great console but not sure on their focus with this one
Ok buddy. I am ignorant
Thanks for sharing
“Keeps getting voted hot”
Really?
Here's 10 creations people have come up with using the Toy-con garage - you know, the software that comes with the cardboard.
The clue is right there in the name!!
No doubt the neck beards and schoolies will lap it up
I stood in my local smyths watching guy behind the counter build this and was pretty shocked at what it was for the price.. A load of precut cardboard push outs and a bag of elastic bands. I get the whole idea that building it is half the fun but it looked very flimsy to me.
Yeah you sound far too cool to enjoy the fun
Well normally when you buy software for consoles all you get is a plastic box... you don't even get that if you buy it digitally..
What did you watch him build exactly?
its not in the least bit flimsy. Each piece of card is folded in on itself several times to make extremely strong constructions. The bits I was worried looked flimsy folded over and slotted in to itself, making it just as strong as any gaming peripheral I’ve used.
I was was worried about the strength of the fishing rod as that takes quite a bit of abuse reeling in some of the bigger fish. It turned out to be strong enough for an over excited ten year old, so I no longer have concerns.
Really, just stop thinking about the base material. When folded a specific way, cardboard is extremely strong. This whole set is an engineering marvel and worth every penny for the, almost unique, experience you get from it.
Not just cardboard, you even have to build them yourself
What about the £40 of software that comes with it? So £10 worth of cardboard, £3 worth of plastic and stickers etc plus £40 software. Hey Nintendo are really screwing us over on this, you should be able to pick this up for around £53!!! 😏
