I am hoping the catalog will be the same as the wiiU as I have acouple … I am hoping the catalog will be the same as the wiiU as I have acouple of digital titles already, assuming it is fully backwards compatible.

The switch only has one screen, the Wii U has 2, so backwards compatibility is very unlikely with Wii U games i would have thought

Is this only on the £50 card? Wouldn't mind picking up £25 for a couple of games, but even that would leave me with change, £50 is a bit too much.

I wonder if Switch will use the same eShop funds.

NNIDs and the Nintendo Account were conceived to be their steps towards an account-based system. The Switch would demonstrate the next phase in their eShop development and I would bet good money that it would continue using the eShop, just an improved version.

After all, the merging of the 3DS and Wii U eShop funds were part of their development plans to unify the eShops and accounts.

And yet, Nintendo have stopped games development and stopped manufacturing the WiiU. It is a replacement, they just don't want to P off all the WiiU owners (and buyers of the remaining stock). Hence their rather bizarre claim.

I am really debating getting this now as I am wanting to get dragon quest 8 when thats out on 3ds as always having that on my console would be great for me. but I have so many games already debating waiting until that game is cheaper, plus having just spent so much money for christmas I should restrain myself, I did work out this is only saving £0.60 compared to buying eshop credit at cdkeys, however they are often out of stock, so I am very on the fence.

in terms of the deal though probably the cheapest you will ever find on nintendo credit.

The Switch and the Wii U have both completely different hardware, architectures, and operating systems. Backward compatibility has already been ruled out - and is not really possible anyway. Which is why I'll hang on to my Wii U when I get the Switch. Nintendo has also always maintained that the Switch isn't the replacement to the Wii U (even if >90% of the gaming populace doesn't agree), so making the Switch backwards compatible is in direct contrast to that stance.

PayPal are also running iTunes offers alongside this - and those offers expire 6pm on Christmas Eve. There's no expiry date on this one but I would purchase before 6pm 24/12.

I'm with you on this. Damage control from Nintendo considering the relatively short life-span of the Wii U.

They are not going to be the same versions though? A bit like the new Wooly Yoshi game on 3DS has lots of adjustments and extras rather than a straight copy of the Wii U version.

I'd be surprised in Mario Kart 8 for example if there was not a new cup or two i.e. new tracks, along with some new characters. It would make sense for them to sort out the dreadful battle modes too, and have battle mode arenas. Maybe even subtle adjustments like the ability to keep a spare item at your bum will be made.

I'm kind of seeing it as wiiU was a prototype to the switch, im mad wiiu never got it's own zelda title (hyrule warriors was a bigger game on the 3ds weirdly) but still excited for the switch.

when they ported hyrule warriors to 3ds that got a ton of extra content unavailable to wiiu for some reason, didn't know about yoshi's wooly world though.
they will probably add additional features to mario kart like you say, not sure about splatoon though as they updated that so frequently would that mean additional content on the switch would be from the start or would they do periodic releases again?
The servers for both games are going to have to be compatible with wiiU players though I would imagine or the player pool will be quite small at least initially.
I hope if the games are different they will get an update title like mario kart 8.5 though.

Would make sense but I doubt it. Reminds me of when I was watching Rouge One the other day, I was thinking to myself why is this not called Star Wars Episode 3.5.
