I bought something similar, for not a lot more, only to find that (1) the cable was too short to be of much use (2) it was very difficult to operate it unless it could be stabilised by putting it on something (3) the cable showed signs of rust very quickly. Although I did then service it and especially the wire very frequently, with surface rust present there is always the worry of rust you can't see and a weakened wire breaking under tension is the stuff of nightmares. I ended up buying a 4 ton one, for again not a lot more. The cable is 10ft long, a lot bigger in diameter and didn't visibly rust, plus it's got a lot more margin of safety as I am never going to be pulling more than a ton or so.Read lessRead more

Couple of weeks back came across a Road Traffic Accident were the car (Land Rover) had the wing and the steel bumper bent in so could not be moved. I attached one of these to my towball and used it to straighten the front of the damaged vehicle allowing it to be driven off clearing the road. If we had to wait on a recovery vehicle it would have been at leats 3 hours. Simple to set up and simple to use. Good to have in the back of the car if you leve in a rural location

Tensioning fencing wire!! These are brilliant for this job, better and much cheaper than the 'proper' tool. HOT

Looks interesting, I might use one for setting up this year's slackline in the garden.

Remember you can always make it longer by adding a tow rope decent tie down or similar - but yes, less than 10ft does sound rather short - especially if it's being doubled up.

A product that will do a job 100% without knowing you have tp buy associated products for it to be of any use at all?

Unless you have 2 sets of iron railings you want to rip out these on its own are no good at all as they stand alone.

You always have to have an anchor point and finding a tool that works on it's own is like finding Jesus in Australia ;D

Something that is of little/no use/is potentially lethal isn't a bargain at any price. A 2 ton puller with only 5ft range falls into that category, IMHO, especially if the wire rope is prone to corrosion. Yes, you can add a tow rope, but you are standing pretty close to the path that the tow-rope/wire is likely to take if something does part under strain. YMMV, and my attitude is probably determined by having seen a wire rope part, but I'd rather pay the extra and get something with a bigger safety margin - especially if it isn't going to be subject to the regular testing that lifting gear normally gets when used professionally.

Could be dangerous if not used correctly. Adding longer lengths of rope/wire without safety anchors (lanyards) could be potentially horrific.
Otherwise a handy 'puller' at this price.
